does the fish scales fly all over the place when using this scaler?

We use this item often. The scales do not fly all over - they stay on the fish or the scaler.

How well does this work on small scaled fish?

If it's already scaled, why do you need to re-scale it? And how small a fish? (we used it for bass)

How many inches is this scaler?

The total length of the fish scaler is 7 1/2 inches. The wooden handle is 4 inches and the metal part is about 3 1/2 inches from the base to the tip. It's really a great scaler. the widest point of the metal part is 1 3/8 inches. hope that helps.

Does it work well for larger fish scales, for example a 2 ft snapper. Some of the scales are size of a nickel.

Family heirloom?

Solid build, good balance, ideal for domestic use on fine or coarse-scaled fish. Beware imitations that do not have the hammered very fine cutting flange on each tooth. No need to pay a fortune - this does the job well. Will outlast me, but then I am 67!

Really good scaler

I usually have my fish scaled before I purchased it but forget to tell the butcher to scale it . When I got home I realized the work needed to be done on the red snappers. I have used knives years before and had scales all over my nice kitchen. I purchased two scalers after reading reviews . One review person said he put his fish in a bag, layed it flat and scaled the fish. I tried the same method( took a kitchen bag) layed the fish in it to prevent scales from flying all over my kitchen . Some scales escaped before I really got the hang of it. It worked beautifully using this scaler and cleaned the two large fish in just a few minutes. The other scaler I tried did not work as well as this one. Glad I purchased it . It is sturdy and well made
