Good for the price
These worked great for the small trees I'd planted. Good protection that allows airflow. I like that they can expand with growth.

Great tree trunk protector for various tree sizes.
Sturdy yet flexible and stays put. Looks better on the tree than the plastic bottle I had recycled before. Good protection against critters and the weed whacked. Easy to cut to fit.

Use a flat blade scewdriver - no problemo
I just installed my six-pack on 5 trees and am about to give them a test drive as I fire up my Stihl weed whacker for the first time this season. But I already know they're going to work great. They are a little shorter and narrower than I thought they would be. The height won't be a problem -- you weed whack at ground level and they are plenty tall to protect against getting too close with the trim string. Moreover, part of the appeal of the design is that they are inconspicuous -- you don't want them to be 4' tall. The narrowness means I had to join two together to get around a couple of young trees that have thicker trunks. No big deal -- the slot and clip design makes joinder easy. Regarding others' comments that the tabs are tough to get into the slots -- yes and no. If you are trying to do them with only brute finger strength, yes, it will take a couple of minutes and some finess. But with a flat blade screwdriver applied to the back points of the tabs they go in easily. More important, they are not going to come OUT easy. I disagree that the slightly tough insertion is a design defect; it's a feature and function of the material. The plastic is hard -- designed to stand up to a string trimmer smoking along at 1000 RPM, or whatever they clock out at. The material needs to be hard to withstand that. Plus, I plan to leave them on over the winter, and we have 60 mph winds here in Boulder. The tabs will keep them from sailing east into my neighbor's yard. So yes, you need to take a few seconds with a flat blade to push the tabs through the slots, but this is a First World problem. I do agree with the comment that in a less breezy climate you could probably skip the tab-slot process altogether unless you need to join two to accommodate a larger trunk. They really are tightly wound. If you have a 1" trunk, you can skip that step until the trunk gets larger. All in all, just what I needed and at the right price. Time to go test them out.

protects the trees
Weed whacking kills the trees. I bought these and it works perfect. As it grows it expands outwards. Looks good, thickness is perfect to last many years. Definitely protects the trees.

Does the job well
Previously, we had deer eat almost half of the trunk of our small cherry tree. This product is much better than putting a fence around it (which the deer pushed over). Its sturdy, the clips that secure the roll around the trunk are great (otherwise the deer definitely would have pulled them off). Its a little hard to get the clips in place, but with a bit of work, I got em through the holes. It works like a charm, no deer issues, and our tree is well protected, and it looks so much better than putting up a bulky barrier/fence around it.

Just wat I needed to save my trees from the unaware weed whacking yard boys!
For some reason no big box store near me carries these IN STORE and must be ordered. Pricing was cheaper on Amazon and exact same thing you'd get at a big box store. Work great, won't last years, but certainly will last for the entire summer or maybe 2 if you are more cautious when weed whacking around them

Needs work
Has held up well for 2 years. Allows for air flow. However, these are quite short and it takes 2 of them stacked to get above rabbit gazing height. Also, the tapered end digs into the tree's bark.

great for trees
These tree trunk protectors are super helpful for keeping my trees safe from lawn equipment and pests. They’re easy to wrap around the base of the trunk and stay in place. The grey color blends in well with the bark, so they’re not too noticeable. The only thing I didn’t like is the coils are a bit stiff, so they don’t always wrap perfectly around larger trunks. Still, they do the job and I’m happy with them.
