Nine hour 3TB file copy successful with zero issues and cool as a cucumber.
I used this to house a WD internal HDD that I wanted to use as a file backup. I transferred 3tb from a WD Passport to the new WD HDD using Robocopy. Both were plugged into USB 3.0 ports and I saw 80-120 mbs read and write speeds throughout the entire transfer. It took around 9 hours to complete with zero errors or issues. Some of these enclosures are built so cheaply that they limit the transfer speeds by half even if it's using a USB 3.0 connection. This one doesn't do that. The limiting factor in my transfer speeds was the USB 3.0 limits and that's perfect. The 3.5" disk fit nicely into the enclosure and the ports had a nice snug fit like they should. There are two small foam pads that are included. Take the thick one and place it on top of the disk so when the lid is closed the disk can't bounce up or down. Take the thin one and cut in half, then stick them to each other so it's double the thickness and squeeze that into the gap at the bottom of the disk. That will stop the drive from sliding away and losing the port connection. Perfect fit, very snug, feels secure. I would recommend it based on my experience. Zero failures for 9 hours of straight transfers is a pretty good test I think. The entire enclosure acts as a heat sink air fin so as long as there is open air around the enclosure there is no possibility of it overheating. I laughed when I saw a review of some clown drilling holes in this thing for ventilation. That is not how disk drives overheat nor how they dissipate their heat LOL. Nine hours, three terabytes, enclosure was cool to the touch. If you need it buy it.

Great 3.5" Enclosure
I purchased this product in hopes of being able to access files off of my five-year-old desktop that died nearly two years ago. Initially, I was hesitant to try this because I thought that the hard drive in the PC had failed and I’d just be wasting money. I was pleasantly surprised by the Orico 3.5” Hard Drive Enclosure. The package comes with a few items inside. You get the enclosure, a power cable, a USB 3.0 cable, an instruction manual in both Chinese and English, and two foam strips. I believe these require external power because of the 3.5” drive. A 2.5” drive in an enclosure does not need external power. The instruction manual is accurate and helpful, but it is for new drives. You do not have to follow this manual if you’re using an old drive from a PC as I was. The build quality of this enclosure is good. The material is a very sturdy plastic and the top of the case is metal, or at least feels like it’s metal. The bottom slides off and clicks into place with ease, but not easy enough that you should fear it sliding off unexpectedly. There is an LED power indicator on the front beside the power button. I took off the side of my old PC and blew out the immense amount of dust it had gathered. I pulled out the 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM drive, blew off the dust that was remaining on it, and slid it into the enclosure. There is extra space on the bottom and left side of the enclosure once the 3.5 drive is in. This worried me because it may become loose; however, Orico provides two foam or foam-like strips with adhesive on the back. I just used one of the two on the bottom and the hard drive did not move inside when I tried to move it. Using the provided cables, I plugged the drive into a socket and one of my USB 3.1 (my PC doesn’t have any 3.0) type A ports. I pressed the power button and the LED indicator came on. I pulled up Windows Explorer and I was shocked. All of my files from my five-year-old desktop were there. I’ve only had this running for 6 hours as of my typing of this review so I cannot speak for long-term use, but if anything changes I will update this. Performance wise I’ve not done any true testing, but I do have some figures to look at. Please keep in mind I am using a five-year-old hard drive that has been sitting for two years. I was transferring all the documents, pictures, music, etc. from the Seagate in the enclosure to the Toshiba HDD in my desktop. During 5-10 GB transfers, I saw transfer speeds of up to 220 MB/s. There was some fluctuation, but I never saw the speed go below 130 MB/s. (Attached is an image of the result from CrystalDiskMark after format completed). Here’s a bit of advice for anyone who may not be too tech savvy and is hoping to do what I did. My drive had both a system partition and data partition since it was the only drive in an old PC. This annoyed me. Also, many folders and files could not be accessed whatsoever because of the security used by Windows. For me, this was fine. I didn’t lose anything that I didn’t already have backed up elsewhere. I could still access my documents, pictures, music, downloads, and could even see what programs I had installed and all their files. I’m currently formatting the drive because of the partitions and the inaccessible/unable to delete files. It isn’t hard and anyone can do it. Lifewire has great guides on how to remove the partitions and format the drive if you don’t already know how to on Windows machines. Make sure you back up all of the files you can/want to keep before you begin the process. Deleting the partitions and formatting the drive permanently deletes all the files on the drive. It takes a while (I’m currently at hour 3 and it’s at 95%), but it is worth it. It deletes the system files you may not be able to delete and frees up that space. I would recommend this product. It was one of the cheaper choices that I saw here on Amazon and it does its job well. I'm happy with it and hope to be happy with it for at least a year.

Almost perfect
Its bascially easy to use. I have several external enclosures already from NextStar that Ive been happy with , but those seem to have faded. So I got this one. The case lies flat & the cover slides open easily and the drive connects easily as well but it wiggles inside just the slightest bit that I dont like, as there's nothing else inside to lock it in tight. There are no screws. It has two foam stickers I assume are for it to rest on , but I prefer the ushaped "foot" so it can stand up vertically, but that doesnt hurt the performance. The last thing is the power cord... Waay too short. Alot of external devices seem to do this & its kind of a pain if you dont have an outlet right next to the computer. I do actually but its up on a table thats too high to reach facing towards me In general it does its job, although because of the short power cord, I have to face it away from my chair and cant see the power light come on, on the front. But it works, so I'm keeping it!

I would very highly recommend this HD Enclosure.
ORICO USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure has worked flawlessly. Very easy to use. Simply open the case, insert the hard drive, close case, attach the USB and power cables, turn the unit on. The hard drive immediately appears in Window File Explorer. You can simply use the drive as an external drive, format the drive, or with the help of Partition Magic, wipe out all partitions. I would very highly recommend this HD Enclosure.

Simple, Sturdy, and Perfect for Reviving Old Drives
Simple, Sturdy, and Perfect for Reviving Old Drives I picked up the ORICO 3588US3 enclosure to reuse a few old 3.5" hard drives from retired PCs, and it’s been excellent so far. The tool-free design really does make installation effortless — you just slide the cover open, drop the drive in, and close it up. It connected instantly to Windows without any driver setup, and the blue LED indicator makes it easy to tell when the drive is active. Transfer speeds over USB 3.0 are right where they should be — I was seeing around 150 MB/s on a standard HDD, which is plenty for backups and file transfers. The included power adapter feels solid and delivers stable power for full-size drives, and the USB cable is a reasonable length for desktop use. The lightweight ABS shell isn’t fancy, but it’s heat-resistant and seems durable enough for sitting on a desk or shelf. There are a couple of small quirks to note: the top cover slides a bit loosely if you move it around a lot, and the included foam pad helps secure the drive better inside. Also, it lacks active cooling, so if you plan to leave it running 24/7, give it some ventilation space. Bottom line: this ORICO 3.5" SATA enclosure is a simple, inexpensive way to breathe new life into old hard drives or create a large external backup. Easy setup, dependable performance, and solid value under twenty bucks.

Another good buy.
This is a proper case. It holds my drive nice and tight. I installed it and hooked it up and it worked just as it is supposed to do. I adjusted the order in my bios and it boots just great. Now I have an internal drive that now operates as an external drive. A very good buy.

Fits my needs
For the price point, it can't be beat. I needed a case for one of my drives because my main drive was filling up quickly. Installation is a breeze; no tools needed. Put the drive in, close the cover, plug it in, and you're done. It can be portable too if need be. But for me, it fit the bill easily.

Simple and reliable. does exactly as stated, recommended for £20.
Does exactly as it says on the box!. Fitted a 4tb drive, and works straight away. Its left on 24/7 and the drive powers off after a while to save power and hdd life. Perfect for external hdd backup drives. Probably not so good for things such as nas and xbox/ps as it does auto power off and there is no way to change that feature. Even under heavy use, the drive and case does not seem to get too warm, with the hdd reporting only 42c (wd blue drive). This can be run from any 12v supply, and i have powered this directly from my pc power supply, and am not using the included mains power supply (i just cut the end off the included psu and use the barrel jack and a 3a in line fuse to one of the molex outputs on my pc psu).

Easiest way to access a HDD
I ordered this product because I had a lot of old HDDs lying around that I wanted to access, but was too lazy to open up my computer and install them all. Imagine installing 4 HDDs into a computer, I'm gonna have to open it up multiple times, and some of them might not even work, and then there's troubleshooting -- it's just too much work. Well with this thing, you can simply turn the power off, slide the top off, install a new HDD, turn the power back on and bam, you're done in seconds. I should have bought something like this a long time ago, but hey it's here now and I love it. The enclosure itself is not the most premium feeling, it's relatively cheap plastic. But it gets the job done and it's perfectly fine for me. The power adapter fits alongside other plugs without any issue (it protrudes downwards). It comes with foam that you can install to stop the HDD from rattling around in the enclosure if you plan to travel with it, but I didn't bother installing it since I was switching out HDDs often. Whether it's a one-time use item to access old HDDs, or something you plan to carry around as an external HDD, it just works.
