Works extremely well
I had this exact same brush cleaning tool for years, and I misplaced it when I moved and couldn’t find it anywhere. So I ordered another one because it works so well for when my hair brushes need to be deep cleaned. I use it to scrub them with shampoo. This cleaning tool has hard nylon bristles that get right through the brush bristles to clean them out thoroughly and scrub the base of the brush itself, which is where a lot of oils and product gets collected and built up. The tool is able to easily scrub it all away. I remove the shed hair first, which I do every week anyway. Then every other week I wash the hair brush out using clarifying shampoo or dish washing liquid, since both are able to cut through build up. Then I lay them on a towel to air dry overnight with the bristles facing down to drain away any excess water (that’s important because trapped water in the base of a brush will eventually weaken the bristle attachment and they’ll start falling out). It’s much more effective washing brushes with the cleaning tool than it is with just my fingers. My brushes are nice and fresh afterwards, thoroughly clean. I definitely recommend this product, not only for brushes that have been used before, but for brand new ones too. It’s important to always wash new bushes (and combs) before using them. I bought the cleaning tool with my own money, with no promotional offers of any kind. Twice. It was worth it.

Great, but not perfect for all brush types nor for removing fine or sticky build up.
I've owned this hairbrush cleaning tool for almost 10 yrs now. It's still as sturdy as the day I got it - even with regular use on several brushes throughout all those years. For reference: I have a ton of hair. A ton. (I'm a hair stylist's dream & nightmare at the same time.) My hair is naturally straight with fine-medium strands. I've mostly kept my hair long to extra long in length. There were several years when my hair was severely bleach damaged to the point it was always a fragile, tangled mess after showers. During those years, I was very reliant on many types of hair products (i.e., smoothing creams/serums, hydrating creams, dry shampoos, etc.) I also had to use a ridiculous amount of strong-hold hairspray at least 5 days of the week due to needing to keep my tied up & looking extra sleek for my job. I own about 15 hairbrushes. (No exaggeration.) Most brushes are designed differently to help accomplish a specific task/look, but some are just basic spares that I keep in my car, gym bag, office, etc. With all that being said, you can probably imagine the amount of build up that my hairbrushes can accumulate in just a few days. 😳 All of them tend to have quite a bit of hair intertwined within the bristles after a single thorough brushing session. After 3-5 uses, I absolutely have to pull all the hair out of the brush for it to perform effectively. And many of my brushes quickly accumulate product build up after just a few uses (in addition to all of the loose hairs). I heavily rely on this cleaning tool to get as much hair out of my brushes as quickly & as easily as possible. The main part of the tool (the longer rows of bristles) collects & "rakes out" the majority of hair from a brush. The smaller part at the bottom of the tool is great for raking out any left over or stubborn hairs. They definitely come in handy for cleaning out mixed bristle brushes or brushes with ball tipped bristles. The pointed plastic tip also helps to loosen up and/or lift out hair. It really comes in handy when cleaning some oddly shaped styling brushes or widely vented brushes. I have used this tool almost every other day, typically while my hairbrushes are dry. I do this for general maintenance/cleaning. It usually takes me less than a minute to "rake" the majority of loose hairs out of 2-3 brushes. When my hairbrushes are very dirty (with both hair & product build up), I usually take them with me in the shower or wet them down over the sink. Then I add a drop of deep cleansing shampoo or dish soap directly on the brush and use the tool to work up a lather before pulling all the loose hairs out. The reason I lather up the hair before pulling it out is bc it's the best way I can get this tool to clean up most of the product build-up. Even so, this tool doesn't work well to get my hairbrushes "squeaky clean." The bristles on the tool are very thick & very stiff. Great for catching loose hairs, but not great for thoroughly scrubbing away grease/oils, sticky residues, and those tiny lint/debri balls that sometimes wrap around the base of ball tipped bristles. Wetting & shampooing the bundle of hairs in my brush helps strip a lot of the grease/oils from the bristles as I rake them out while they're still soapy. Sometimes, even that technique just doesn't do enough. In those cases, I end up loading my dense boar bristle brush with shampoo/soap & use it to scrub off all remaining residue on the other hairbrushes. (This also helps to wash the boar bristle brush.) This usually finishes the job. However, keep in mind... the cleaning tool does do a good amount of the major cleaning needed before I can even get to this step. If you tend to get sticky/gunky type of residue in or on the sides of your hairbrush, this tool won't be of any help. The bristles are just too stiff & thick. And the edges are blunt cut, so they're very scratchy. (The bristles are similar to a grout cleaning brush I own, except the bristles on this tool are staggered in length & are not as dense - which is what makes it so effective at collecting all the matted & tangled hair.) I once stupidly tried to use this tool to scrub sticky residue off of a paddle style hairbrush, which had a cute design all over the plastic parts. The tool badly scratched up the plastic/paint & really ruined the esthetic look of the hairbrush. It also barely cleaned off the sticky product residue. Even though I love this cleaning tool & heavily rely on it, I must admit that it isn't ideal for every style brush. For example, it doesn't work quite as well on some of my dense, mixed-bristle vented round brushes. It's too harsh to use on my most expensive paddle brush, which has a very delicate cushion compared to all of the other cushioned paddle brushes I own. I also can't use the main part of the tool on a particular hairbrush I own, which has extra long & fairly stiff bristles, no cushion. (The brush is designed for very thick hair.) The bristles on the main part of the tool are just too short for that brush. I'm still able to use the pointed tip & the single row of bristles at the bottom of the tool. But completely removing all hair build up takes a few minutes longer than usual. Would I recommend this item? Yes... If you can score it for around $8 or less. It generally does a great job of removing hair & some loose debris from most styles of hairbrushes. And it will last you many years, which makes it a great value. But if you're willing to spend more than $8, you might want to consider investing in a hairbrush cleaning tool that can do all the same things this one can while also having the ability to gently & effectively wash away grease, oils, powders, & sticky build-up from all kinds of bristles & surfaces. If you barely use hair products, then this tool probably offers everything you need.

Perfectly removes hair, hairspray and product buildup. Brushes look brand new!
Omg!! So EASY TO CLEAN my all of my brushes. It’s like having all new hairbrushes. Wish I discovered this years ago! I just soaked all my pics and wet brushes in soapy Dawn water for an hour and EVERYTHING - all that hairspray buildup and other crud, came right off - beautifully. Barely any work. This little device is strong and great quality! Definitely worth the price!
