The handle DOES NOT MELT!
I felt a strong urge to correct some of the negative reviews complaining about the handle melting when heating this kettle on a gas range, claims which I find unfair to the manufacturer and quite frankly angering. These are the people who do not comprehend the relationship between plastic and fire. As with any other type of plastic, if you burn the handle of this kettle with a live flame, it will melt. If you do not burn the handle of this kettle with a live flame, it will not melt. See the attached picture for the appropriate size of the burner to put your kettle on. See how the handle isn't melting? This is because it is NOT IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH A LIVE FLAME. Most people who know how to use a stove understand this concept. If you are in doubt about the size or power of your burner, do what I did: The first time you use the Stagg, put it on the appropriate burner and hold your hand underneath the handle to feel whether it is too hot. I did this a few times throughout the first boil and had no problems whatsoever. Thus far, I am extremely satisfied with this kettle, which not only looks amazing, but offers excellent flow restriction and very fine control when pouring. It is a beautiful gem in my morning ritual, which has been considerably enhanced since receiving the Stagg. It is designed for pour-over coffee brewing, and works perfectly for this purpose. It is virtually impossible to pour too quickly with it, it is comfortable to hold, and the thermometer is sooo handy! The little brewing range indicator soothes my obsessive heart. As some other reviews point out, a little steam gets into the thermometer gauge at around boiling temperature, but who cares? It goes out as soon as the boiling stops. If you're an adult, this is a non-issue. Equally a non-issue is the short metal part of the handle which people complain about burning themselves on. This is an engineering compromise: If you don't want the handle to melt up top, you have to protect the plastic from the heat of the vessel itself. Sure, they could get around this. Or you could just slightly move your thumb, mama's boy. The construction seems sturdy, and I am particularly impressed with the solid joining of the gooseneck to the vessel itself, and the thickness of the gooseneck. This said, I have only had it for a few weeks and thus cannot say anything for long-term durability. The plastic of the handle is perhaps the one thing they could improve, as it feels a bit cheap for a 70-dollar kettle. But it's totally worth it, just get the damn thing. The fact that the thermometer is removable is great since I can use it for my tea kettle or other things. You could also put some other thermometer in there if you have one you prefer. If you're considering other kettles for pour-over brewing but like the design of this one, do yourself a favor and get the Stagg.

THE kettle for pourover coffee!
After years using a cheap Hario aluminum stovetop kettle (which poured sloppily and got grungy very quickly between cleanings) and then a disastrous "Wirecutter top pick" Tsukito Slim Kettle (tall, but uninsulated handle--requiring a potholder or oven mitt--and loose lid made lifting & pouring a nightmare), I went looking for a kettle that combined the stay-cool handle of the Hario and the more vertical spout angle and slimmer tip of the Tsukito. Browsed through the review star-counts and photos, and came across the electric version of the Fellow Stagg. I already have a large OXO cordless electric, so I scrolled down to see if Fellow offered a stovetop version. This has every feature I want in a stoveop kettle for pourover coffee (yes, it's a "uni-tasker," but I don't share Alton Brown's disdain for those): a stay-cool handle, more vertical spout with a narrow tip for precision pours, and a lid that stays in place. It's a beautiful stainless steel, too--as bright and shiny after nearly a month of daily use. Every bit as design-edgy as an Alessi. But the bonus is the thermometer integrated into the lid, complete with red markings on the dial indicating the optimal pouring temperature. I can also tell when it's hot enough to pre-moisten the paper filter and preheat my cup (I brew into & drink from an Ember mug). As a result, I know exactly when to begin my pour and achieve a perfectly precise spiral. Yes, it's pricier than the Hario (and as costly as the Tsukito), but it does exactly what it was designed for and looks absolutely gorgeous sitting out there on my stove. As a result, my second cup of the day is not a K-cup or espresso, but another delicious pourover. It turns a morning chore into a pleasant ritual. No downsides to this, except perhaps drinking too much coffee.

Love this kettle.
Beautiful tea kettle and super easy to use. Spout if very small and its size is perfect. Like the thermometer on the top too! This was a gift and the giftee raves about it. Its a sturdy material, does not leak, and is exactly what we were looking for.

Warning
I received my purchase of this Fellow Gooseneck Teapot this past July 25th and began using it a few days later. This was quite an exceptional purchase given its close to $100 cost, but after many comparisons and good reviews I believed it to be functionally and aesthetically superior to other options and a good investment. Afterall, it was described as being: "award winning", "quality made", "professional preferred", and "aesthetically beautiful." I have been so careful using it--drying the bottom before putting it on the heat, not overfilling, not heating beyond the temperature recommendation, and drying before putting it away. I don't use gas heat, so flames weren't involved. Yet, less than 3 months later, the paint is peeling on the bottom of the kettle. I contacted Fellow and was told that "the wear on the paint is a known issue due to the nature of the materials and design" and that they were "continuously working...to address these concerns." I was told also that this cosmetic issue does not affect the operation of the kettle and that the warranty does not cover this. Well, seems to me that if a company knows that its product's paint will peel after normal, careful use, even after such a very short period of time, it should discontinue sales while working to resolve the problem or at least be transparent with warnings that this degradation WILL happen. And rather than suggesting that a customer continue to use its product despite this flaw, it would respect the California Proposition 65 warning the product received (which I only just learned about on the Williams-Sonoma website), meaning that this product can "expose you to lead, a chemical which is known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defect or other reproductive harm." The bottom line here is that this kettle is very far from being "beautiful", "elegant", "perfect" and safe. Take heed!

PRELIMINARY REVIEW: Beautiful kettle
I desperately wanted this kettle just because it's so beautiful. And for looks, it gets a 10--or I guess 5 stars on amazon. The reason I'm only giving it 4 stars right now is because I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep it because of 2 design flaws: -See that silver ring around the handle? It gets HOT. And since the other part of the handle is relatively short, it is very easy to burn your hand. I think someone else mentioned this too. Seems like even 1/4" longer would have solved it. -Flaw #2: The top does not attach to the kettle. The instructions advise you to hold onto the top when you pour out the water, which is a little annoying. (Remember, we're talking about spending $85 to boil water. At that price point, it really ought to be perfect.) I actually forgot about this when I poured, and the top didn't come off, but I can see how it might. But having said all that: it works perfectly. It pours beautifully--I use an Aeropress and these gooseneck kettles are supposed to be for pourover coffee, but it's the same concept IMHO and it works great. The temperature gauge is easy to read (the proper range is marked in red). It doesn't whistle, so you do have to watch it. But of course the real pleasure is in looking at it on your stove, or next to your coffee beans and grinder and frother and what have you. The shape is so elegant and the matte finish is really gorgeous. I'll update this review in a month.

Stylish and practical. Metal ring on handle gets HOT
Love this except the shiny metal ring between the handle and the pot. My thumb natually wonders there while pouring and it gets very very hot. They show users wrapping their thumb around or placing their thumb on the flat nub of the handle. I might just be holding it wrong, but they could have designed it better. Things I like - 1. Decent pour. I can pour a stream of tea from a relatively high height without water splashing. Gooseneck allows very accurate control of pour. 2. Pot heats uniformly. The selected material distributes heat quite well. 3. I never knew how much I needed the counterbalanced handle. Makes pouring super easy. 4. Matte finish is water repellent. 5. Inside of pot has not stained from softened hard water after a month of use. 6. About 400 ml of water heats to boiling in 7 minutes where I'm at. 7. Looks classy. 8. I like how the thermometer comes out. I use this for tea and just bought the $3 tea thermometer as a replacement from the Fellowproducts website. I love how they offer replacement parts for reasonable prices. I use a glass top electric stove. No issues with the matte finish peeling or flaking or anything. I want to try getting the Raven's tea steeper and seeing if that is partially compatible with the Stagg. Things to improve - 1. Metal ring on handle getting hot 2. Max fill mark could be a lot more prominent

Beautiful Kettle if Used Properly
I did a lot of research before purchasing the Fellow Stagg stovetop kettle, especially at this price point. 4 months later, it still looks beautiful and works great. To address a few concerns I read in other reviews that I have not experienced with my kettle: 1) The handle is sturdy and *does not* melt when used properly. I have a gas stove and use it every morning, usually at about 4-5 heat setting. As others have pointed out, you should not use full heat on this. In fact, when getting rid of my other, older stainless steel kettle, I saw on the bottom a similar warning. In other words, this is standard and what you should be doing regardless of kettle brand. 2) I went with the copper variation rather than the painted black or white kettle so I cannot comment on “peeling.” Mine still looks great! 3) The temperature gage works like a charm. No interior condensation or misreadings. It’s possible others had a faulty thermometer, not the case with mine. All in all, a beautiful and reliable kettle that has held up wonderfully for me. Highly recommended!

Temp Gauge Not Durable
loved it, until! One drop of the lid on my counter top was all it needed to knock the needle off the temp gauge. Disappointed for the cost.

Keine billige Chinaware. Hergestellt in Kalifornien.
