New York Times bestselling author of The DUFF Kody Keplinger and artist Sara Kipin reimagine an iconic DC antihero with a gothic-horror twist. There's something unusual about Pamela Isley--the girl who hides behind her bright red hair. The girl who won't let anyone inside to see what's lurking behind the curtains. The girl who goes to extreme lengths to care for a few plants. Pamela Isley doesn't trust other people, especially men. They always want something from her that she's not willing to give. When cute goth girl Alice Oh comes into Pamela's life after an accident at the local park, she makes her feel like pulling back the curtains and letting the sunshine in. But there are dark secrets deep within the Isley house. Secrets Pamela's father has warned must remain hidden. Secrets that could turn deadly and destroy the one person who ever cared about Pamela, or as her mom preferred to call her...Ivy. Will Pamela open herself up to the possibilities of love, or will she forever be transformed by the thorny vines of revenge? Review: Oooo I'm excited to read!! - Arrived in great condition! I'm so relieved it wasn't bent or scratched or ripped. Poison Ivy is one of my, if not, favorite super villains of all time and was even more ecstatic that it's a queer romance! And I love how simple but unique the artstyle is! Review: Wonderful story - It's a great origin story for an iconic character. I loved the art style especially. The story is pretty good overall! I wish they had gone into Ivy's dark side a bit more but this comic is marketed pretty young I think. I recommend this to anyone that wants to learn more about Ivy.

Nice remake
It felt very much like the Poison Ivy I know from the original comics and animated shows. Dark, complicated and morally gery/blackish. Pamela is just as compassionate, tortured and strong as Poison Ivy. It was a great read

Excellent!
Wow. This is one of the best stories I’ve ever read. I don’t know - I just loved it. Complete empathy with Poison Ivy! Kody Keplinger is an amazing writer.

Fresh take on an amazing character
Great story and great art. I honestly think they should make this into a movie. With a fresh screen play and some fleshed out character this would be a hit!

Gothic Ivy
I received an advanced copy of Poison Ivy: Thorns through NetGalley so I could share my review with you! Content Warning: Poison Ivy: Thorns contains scenes of bullying, harassment, and unhealthy familial relationships. Pamela Isley is quiet for a reason. She’s got secrets, the kind that could destroy lives. Plants can’t tell secrets, though, so Pamela surrounds herself with nature. Besides, people always seem to want something from Pamela that she isn’t willing to give. Her plants take lots of concentration and nurturing, but they behave in predictable ways. But, when a cute goth girl named Alice is forced to stay in Pamela’s house, she begins to wonder if maybe people aren’t too bad after all. Pamela will have to choose between her secrets and her future, or else risk the consequences. I loved the gothic flair that this story had! It was surprisingly fitting for Poison Ivy’s backstory and style and made this graphic novel really stand out from the other Poison Ivy stories I’ve read before. This story also showed another side of Ivy’s character, one that is scientifically minded, loving of nature, and willing to do what it takes to defend herself and the ones she loves. These motivators make her actions in the story understandable, even when they extend beyond the law. Though traditionally a villain, Ivy is incredibly easy to root for in this story! My Recommendation- If you’re looking for a queer graphic novel to kick off your pride month reads, you should definitely pick up a copy of Poison Ivy: Thorns! This book would be perfect for fans of villain backstories that give you a new perspective on classic characters!

The perfect reimagining for Poison Ivy
Ever since I was introduced to her properly (and NOT through Uma Thurman’s performance, no thank you), Poison Ivy has always been my favorite DC character, hands down. But it wasn’t until later that I actually did some research and learned about her dark and horrific origins. POISON IVY: THORNS takes that backstory and revamps it just a bit, giving it an even more sinister and timely feel. This novel is perfectly low-key creepy and ominous but is not without its bright spots and moments of hope and validation. It’s an interesting cross between the story of Bluebeard and Jane Eyre with domestic violence, manipulation, and violations of female autonomy. Pamela Isley is excellently drawn, in every sense of the word, and really comes into her own here after suffering a lot of trauma. With the help of her friend Alice, she recognizes and eventually fights against the claims made on her body, making some really great mantra-worthy statements about that toward the end. Alice is an unwavering force through all this, and is also someone who forces me to recognize how easily I let some characters off the hook for their awful actions. This is a fantastic origin story that sets the stage for Pamela fully becoming Poison Ivy at the end, unlike some of the other most recent DC YA graphic novels. As someone who’s always craving more Poison Ivy in my life, I truly can’t recommend POISON IVY: THORNS enough.

loved seeing how Pamela became Ivy
This is the first book I’ve read by Kody Keplinger and I really enjoyed it. I don’t know much about Poison Ivy and I’m loving these updated origin stories. Especially the villain ones. Ivy’s real name is Pamela, but her mom wanted to name her Ivy. Pamela’s mom taught her all about plants. But when something went wrong, Pamela’s dad started experimenting on her. Pamela was working on something to help plants grow. She wants to help her mom, but there are things happening to her body. A girl from school, Alice, moves in for a little while and Pamela’s dad warns her about sharing their family secrets. He reminds her over and over that she can’t trust anyone but family. There is a lot of negative things in this book that makes Pamela become Ivy. She gets sexually harassed and blamed for it. Her father is basically a monster. She has feelings for Alice, but she’s afraid of killing her. It’s just a bad life for Pamela. I liked the focus on environmental issues. I gave this book 4 1/2 stars, rounded up to 5 on Goodreads. Thank you to DC for providing me with an ebook for review. #InpartnershipwithDC.

Bitter Sweet
Loved this, was worried when I started reading thinking it’d slide into some messed up tropes but I’m glad it didn’t and showed a perfect sad sonnet of a Woman coming into her own, taking her power and owning her darkness.

a brilliant must-have
a must-have. One of the best comic books I've ever read in my entire life. The story is chilling and important, it deals with real issues while also showing us love at its peak. I really loved it, definitely not your typical/ mainstream comic book. 1000/10 would recommend it. Poison Ivy is truly the most fascinating comic book character ever and this story is hopefully one of the many that we will get to read about her.

Story eher flach.
Die Zeichnungen waren super schön, sowie Setting & Design, aber die Story hat mich nicht so umgehauen.
