Compact, reliable and robust
A transfer speed of 1050MB/s is decent compared to SATA disk drives. In the SSD category, it is average but addresses the needs of most situations and uses. I got the 2TB size, the most convenient option per MB, and a capacity large enough to serve as a backup unit when considering this device on the road. Its pocket size and weight are significant features, making this product an ideal solution for almost every need and situation. All my previous experiences with Samsung external SSD have been highly successful, never experiencing any hardware failure or data loss. I guess this red T7 will emulate its predecessors, but only time will tell.

Good but not perfect
It is good in transfer speed, however the speed usually very slow if you connected to older USB version, sometimes even the device not detected by the laptop.

Huge speed boost for my older Mac — worth every penny
I bought the Samsung T7 2TB portable SSD mainly to give my older 2017 Mac a new lease on life. The internal 500GB platter style hard drive drive in that machine was painfully slow, so I set up macOS to run directly off the T7. The difference was night and day — boot times dropped to seconds, apps opened almost instantly, and overall the computer felt like a brand-new machine. Honestly, it sped things up exponentially compared to the stock drive. Beyond that, the T7 has been great for general storage and file transfers. It’s small, lightweight, and built solid with its aluminum casing, so I don’t worry about tossing it in my bag. Transfer speeds are fast enough that moving large projects doesn’t feel like a chore anymore, and I haven’t had any reliability issues. It also stays cool during everyday use, which isn’t always the case with portable SSDs. Compared to the older external hard drives I used before, this is in another league for both speed and portability. Against other portable SSDs, I think Samsung’s combination of performance and reliability is hard to beat at this price point. If you have an older computer that’s slowing you down, or you just need fast and dependable storage on the go, the T7 is an excellent choice. For me, it completely transformed the usability of my Mac and has become a tool I use every single day.

Perfect SSD for Rivian Gear Guard
The Samsung T7 Portable SSD 1TB in Titan Gray is great for my new Rivian and works perfectly with Gear Guard. It’s extremely easy to set up — just make sure to plug it into the first USB‑C slot under the armrest. It connected seamlessly and I just had to format at it when I first installed and it was good to go after that. That takes about 1-2 minutes. Before buying, I did a lot of research and read through Reddit threads from other Rivian owners, and this SSD was consistently recommended. It’s built for speed and performance, and it handles the constant video recording without any issues. It also seems well‑suited for the heat it will be exposed to inside a car, which was important to me. I also love how sleek and compact it is. It barely takes up any space in the armrest and keeps the interior looking clean. Overall, a great choice for anyone using Gear Guard on their Rivian.

Excellent USBC SSD
I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of those USB – C SSD by Samsung. This model supports USB 3.2 GEN 2. However my MacBook Stone Age model only supports USB 3.0. Despite that, performance is excellent. The drive is about 40% full and still performs the way it did when it was new. I did have to format it once when I first had it; I don’t remember if I installed a firmware update or not. But when I first got the drive, after using it for a short time, performance dropped significantly. A reformat, maybe a firmware update, and the drive has been flawless since. It is small, lightweight, and Portable. It does get a touch warm but I never had to worry about it overheating. Wakes from sleep quickly. I use it as an external drive to supplant my iTunes and movie library. In that regard, it works excellent.
