Surprisingly effective device!
This is one awesome little piece of equipment! I am not all that vehicle savvy, I can change my oil, do my brakes, and rotate my tires, but that is about it. I have always been irritated when I see the idiot light come on and wonder not only what it means, but if I have to get it to the shop asap. In these days of computer managed cars, we have less and less logical hunches to go on. I recently bought a new truck and after only 1200 miles the check engine light came on. With steam coming off my head I ordered this with 2 day shipping. Fortunately I did not have to take the vehicle on the road before the scanner arrived. When it arrived, I had already downloaded several apps on my android and was ready to give it a shot, even though I was sure that the information would be miles over my head. I was wrong, between the apps and this little wonder I found that it was a temporary warning due to a single misfire on cylinder 5. I consulted a mechanic friend and he says that happens with new cars and goes away. Then he asked me how I figured out that symptom. I told him and he said "Pretty cool, most people panic and bring it in to the shop" I drove it to work the next day and sure enough the light went out.I plugged the scanner in again and it showed that the alert had indeed been reset. Since then I have learned all kind of interesting things about my truck. Immediate MPG as opposed to measurements over time and distance. I can tell how my drive train is distributing the load across the wheels as the conditions change, I can see how my braking system works under different conditions, even how my transmission shifts under different types of driving. When I showed this to several friends who are "Mechanic Minded" they were impressed with what it does for the cost and ease of understanding. all were impressed by the accuracy of the diagnostics This is pretty freaking COOL! I like anything that makes it easier to understand things I am not so well versed in, and this device does it in spades. Actually let me say this device and the corresponding App do it in spades. When choosing apps, start with the free ones and see what kind of feedback you prefer. when you find the one or ones you like, there is almost always a pro version available for a small amount of money, but some of the free ones will do the trick without purchase. It depends on the level you want to take it to. In terms of ease of use: It only fits on one way, there is nothing to worry about with putting it on wrong. If you can pair your phone or tablet to any bluetooth device, you can set this up If you have children or a spouse that thinks a vehicle runs on moonbeams and happy thoughts then freaks out when a light comes on, they can plug this in and understand the output. Final thought, with what this does, and for what it costs, this is peace of mind at a pittance. These will be turning up as little gifts for family and friends this holiday season, If I could give it 10 stars I would

A Practical and Fun Gadget
My car registration is due soon and it has to pass the smog test before I can have the privileged of paying car registration to drive my car for another year in California. Problem: my check engine light was on which is an automatic fail on the smog test. Solution: Kitbest engine scanner & my android phone. I bought this one because it was the least expensive one on Amazon and had the best warranty. The Kitbest Scanner was extremely easy to use & you can't even plug it in the wrong way. They give you a QR code to scan so that you can install one of the apps that it works with. All you have to do from there is pair it with the Bluetooth on your phone and touch the Diagnostic button and in a few seconds it tells you what the code means. A quick trip to the auto parts store to purchase a new gas cap, in my case, and the guy at the auto parts store said I might have to drive it for a while for the car's computer to recognize the new gas cap but it worked by the time I got home from running errands and it let me reset the check engine light. I tried it with all three free apps that they mentioned in the tiniest instruction manual you've ever seen. The Bluetooth on the scanner linked up quickly with all three apps and I discovered there are a lot of things that you can see about your engine, transmission, cooling system, fuel consumption, etc. You can look at more gauges than you ever knew existed, improve your mileage, use it as a trip computer, see a color coded map of your trip that shows your speed in various legs of the trip, it will even tell you your altitude and how much of an angle you're driving on to prevent rolling over while off-roading. So all-in-all it solved my problem with the check engine light and it's a great little gadget that provides fun exploring all the things it can do and even with the paid app I think I'm still way ahead of what it would have cost to take the car to the mechanic and I'm having fun playing with it. If all you want to do is find out why the Check Engine light came on, do the repair and reset the light yourself you can do that with this device and one of the free apps.

Good, even tho its tiny
I've only used this a few times w/ Galaxy J7 using Torque Pro app...the pairing code was "1234"...works fine. Sometimes these will be cheap and dont work, but it gets job done...pairs quicker than last one of these I owned. Used it to measure four 02 sensors (banks 1/2, upstream/downstream) and laid em out on graph PIDs that were easy to set up. Its important to be using a decent phone and app w/ these...I paid $5 for Torque Pro edition (not Lite) 5 years ago, and its followed me thru several phones. If you use a cheap free app that's overloaded w/ ads instead of features or if your phone sucks...OR if you're just not proficient w/ an OBD2 scan tool...then dont bother with this. If you only seek to clear/read codes or check emissions monitors, this will do that but you could probably find a $20 junk scanner somewhere that'll also do it. This is good for auto techs/mechanics to keep as a side tool. I use a Snap On Modis at my shop, but keep this in my car to monitor my specific vehicle profiles, and to diagnose cars outside of work. I get a good PID list of live data w/ this setup....freeze frame, manufacturer's codes, pending codes...no SRS/ABS...its also cool I can send fault logs via email. Yesterday I used it to share a fault log for a Jeep w/ 4 DTCs, freeze frame, and a snapshot of some relative PIDs it had to my service writer while I was 2 miles away test driving it My only complaint so far is the size...its very small/short...so it's harder to place into or remove from DLC...I imagine it's also easier to forget, and have customer drive off with the tool. Some of these are longer, easier to grab, and have USB inputs so you can wire direct to laptop if you want, but the bluetooth functionality is really all I need. I dont do any reprogramming or anything like that, so I dont need a tool more advanced than this since I also have access to a several thousand $ snapon scanner. I dont recommend this to people who dont know what they are doing...I dont recommend these people do ANYTHING to cars unless they're accepting of how possible it is to mess something up. I had a customer come in the other day who had a $90-120 model of a dongle like this w/ more capabilities...he had pulled some EVAP/engine codes, and had "diagnosed" it himself (incorrectly) and wanted me to fix something that wasnt the issue. Things like this annoy me. He had also adjusted his valve clearances because he saw this mentioned as something to do in service intervals, and I wound up replacing his camshaft and his motor will never be the same because of damage. Stuff like this annoys me.

Works as Expected! Great Buy!
Works great. I use two apps from the App Store, just as “second opinion”. They are both free. I wouldn’t pay for one of those apps, bc all I’m using it for is the Trouble Codes! Apps are: InCarDoc (black background and orange outline of an engine) Car Scanner (blue background and outlined and filled engine color white) There is a bit of setting up and making sure you’re connected to the device via Wi-Fi. When it comes to using Apple devices, beggars can’t be choosers! I’ve tested a lot of free apps, those two have worked the best for me. And they connect quickly with the device The device works great with the apps, just make sure you can see it when connecting to your Wi-Fi networks. If you don’t see it, then you probably didn’t connect it correctly or it’s not all in. You’ll see the LED’s light up when your key is at least turned to 1. There are several videos at finding your port in your car. Before purchasing this device, I’d make sure that your car has the right one. I’ve tested this device on: Civic EX 2010 Versa 2008 F-150 2018 Q25 2016 Which all worked, expect the 325CI 2003, which it could be the port, it could also be in a different spot than the logical standard. Because with a BMW; why go for, what makes sense?! The device wouldn’t even power on. Anyway, that’s what I’ve found thus far, and I’ve had it for over a year now. And it still works great and as designed.

Plug and play OBD scanner
I recently purchased this OBD scanner to use with the Torque Pro app on my Android phone. I am very happy with the scanner and the app, and I would highly recommend them to any car owner. The scanner is very easy to use. Simply connect it to your car's OBD2 port and open the Torque Pro app. The app will automatically scan your car's computer and display a variety of information, including engine RPM, fuel consumption, and current emissions. I needed it to troubleshoot misfiring on some cylinders. The Torque Pro app also allows you to view and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). This can be helpful if your car is experiencing any problems. I have been using the OBD scanner and Torque Pro app for a few weeks now, and I have been very impressed with them. They are both very reliable and easy to use. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to learn more about their car or troubleshoot any problems that they may be having. Pros: Easy to use Reliable Wide range of features Compatible with most cars Cons: Label fell off after being in the heat, but no damage to device. Overall: I highly recommend this OBD scanner (and Torque Pro app) to any car owner. They are both very reliable and easy to use, and they offer a wide range of features. I hope this helps!

Great Scanner. Use the ToyoSys app if you have a Toyota.
I bought this in an attempt to diagnose/clear my SRS airbag light that came on in my 2014 Toyota Sienna with a wheelchair conversion kit. I know that these SRS matters can get very expensive very fast if taken to a dealership for troubleshooting. Moreover, since my vehicle features a BraunAbility wheelchair conversion, the Toyota dealership will blame Braunability and that gets old fast. I was unable to view SRS codes using any of the apps recommended by the seller. These apps may work well for most makes and models but Toyota/Lexus is a little different and I was unable to use the standard apps to view these codes. However, I found a free app called ToyoSys Free that would show me the Toyota SRS codes and clear them. Based on info gathered from this code that I found on the internet, I was able to narrow down the fault to the weight sensor for the passenger seat. (The vehicle relies on a passenger seat weight sensor to know whether or not to turn on the airbag.) It turns out, there was just a loose connection in the in the quick disconnect wiring harness. (The seats in these wheelchair vans have quick disconnect wire harnesses so they can be quickly removed for wheelchair users.) While I initially had trouble getting this product to do what I wanted it to, such troubles were not caused by the reader but by the lack of compatibility of most apps on the Android market with Toyotas. The reader itself works great. All in all, this OBD2 scanner saved me hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars to have this professionally fixed. Once I had the correct app for my Toyota, diagnosis and repair only took about 5 minutes. (Your experience will vary based on your situation.)

So simple to use, and it works great!
I've been meaning to buy an OBD2 code reader for... well, for years now. I kept telling myself I only needed one of the cheap ones that just covers the basics--you know, the ones they sell for $40 at every parts store across America. Every time I considered seriously buying one, it seemed I was short on cash, or in a hurry, or whatever. A couple weeks ago, I was walking through my service department (I work at a large new car dealership) and noticed one of my senior techs had one of these little things. I asked him about it, and he excitedly rambled on and on about how these bluetooth interfaces--combined with an app on his cell phone--could do everything the traditional 'corded' models could do, and more. I was officially intrigued. Then when I found this model on sale here for a meager $11, I knew my time had come. Into my cart it went. Long story short, this thing is awesome! Just plug it into the car, turn the key to the ON position, pair the device from my phone, and then launch the Torque app. In seconds, I can read codes, clear codes, and more. I am even using the free Lite version of the app, so my total cost is only the price of this item. Such a deal. If you've got an Android phone and want an inexpensive way to interface with your car's OBD2 system, I definitely recommend this Kitbest adapter.

ELM-327 CLONE - Works for basic stuff though
This is a fake ELM-327 (shows version 1.5 which is a popular counterfit, but at least there's an indication). Legit ELM-327's should cost at least more than $20 though, so that wasn't really a surprise. (the chip itself costs $20). Pros: Super Slim, no ugly brand logo or blinking lights. Just the one sticker as pictured. My OBDII port points directly down, so I worried the longer scanners might get kicked getting in / out of the car, but this is so slim it doesn't even stick out past the bottom of the pastic dash cover. It works for 90% of what I needed it to do. Check codes, clear codes, show engine data like timing, O2 readings, open and closed loops, fuel %, etc, but that's mostly due to having a 2012 car that supports a lot of these sensor readouts. An early 2000's car would likely have fewer sensors supported. This unit also appears to be safe to leave in the vehicle all the time because it's only on when the car is powered (acc, or engine running). It does not stay on with the car completely turned off. Cons: Fake ELM-327, doesn't not support all the features of the newer v2.1 ELM chip, but for most users that isn't an issue. It's not the fastest reader either, and when reading multiple sensors at once there is a noticeable slow down compared to single sensor readings. That said, the reader DOES work with the fast mode in torque, so with an average amount of gauges there isn't any real issue. I'd also describe it as a refresh lag, as all sensors will react fairly quickly to changes, but sometimes the refresh rate on the sensor can suffer. This is just due to the protocol though, and is expected to a certain degree. For me, I had a strict set of requirements that I wanted. Small form factor(good). Either a real ELM-327, or a clone of the newer version(failed). Fast data polling speed (fair), bluetooth 4.0 (only 2.0, not a big deal). Auto on/off so I could leave it in (Good). Code reading and clearing (decent, can remove a CEL light, but can't fully clear out historic faults).

Doesn’t work
It does not connect to my Android phone, and the App does not read any data. Complete waste of time and money

Works with Torque on my Vw
Recently purchased a Android head unit as I wanted to run obd app Torque after the other devices not being compatible this one worked straight away with the Android unit. Also is smaller than most other units. Great price as well.

Worked great for nearly 4 years
It finally gave up on me but I've used it constantly for 4 years on multiple cars. Well worth the money.
