Please forgive the long response: I never read any literature about it being waterproof. I just needed a backpack for riding since I ride a Ducati Monster and not a cruiser / bagger. Coincidentally, I was caught in a rainstorm (because weather people suck - sorry if you're one); and I had to ride for 40 minutes. All my stuff in my backpack stayed dry. I did not.

Does it have a place for a hydration pack and its hose? If so how big?

I think it's large enough. You would have to leave unzipped a little for the hose

will this take a full size helmet inside the main compartment ?

No, theres is room for a shield on the inside otherwise there is a helmet lease on the right strap outside the backpack

Is this too big for a female rider who is 5'4" 160lbs? I am debating between the Mach 5 and Mach S.
