When we bought our guinea pig we also purchased a standard cage. After the food dishes and her igloo went into the cage there was no room for her to walk around more less play. I went hunting for a better home and found this cage. I was wary because there were some reviews about being difficult to set up and some claiming a badly made cage. It was also half the cost of others (and half the size) After reading the good reviews and feeling like size mattered(hehe) I went ahead and gave it a try. Not only am I glad I did but the guinea pig is too. There is so much room and it is sturdy even if you decide to take out the center bar which I have done. It does shake a little easier without it, but by no means is it unstable. I ended up buying another as we thought our first needed a friend. I guess she was to old to welcome company into her home (she was abused and the shelter kept her alone as she was not very sociable, she is now lol). The second cage is just as good as the first. A good thing too as GP #2 ended up being pregnant! She only had one which is also female so they fit perfectly fine together in the same cage, even with 2 igloos the dishes a potty box and toys. I do recommend using puppy house training pads under whatever you use for their base. The canvas is easy to clean though drying time is a little long. I found the pads keep the canvas clean as one GP likes to pull up the bedding instead of always using the potty box. Assembly is simple and besides attaching the Velcro strips (there are quite a few) on the canvas to the bars there is nothing difficult about putting it together. I wrote this review almost a year after purchase so there would be time for the normal wear of it and an informed opinion. It is just as sturdy as it was when we bought them the canvas is still in excellent shape even though I didn't think of the pads till several months ago. Either way the canvas is still washed weekly as a precaution even though the pads work great. I definitely recommend this cage for your little furry pet as it is well worth it's low cost and is a great sturdy,large home that they will love!

I wanted to review this product as your average everyday pet owner. My kids got two Guinea pigs about 2 months ago and we had them in a large borrowed pet store type cage. They were small at the time and knew this cage would be temporary until we could find a better one. I do not have half a room to make a huge home made cage that many people have done and just wanted something that they could have more room in to move around, exerise and eat. After searching the internet I came across this Midwest cage and knew this was the cage for our pigs. I ordered through Amazon for about half the price($57) of a pet store cage and got it setup. I was so happy to see the size of the cage and knew how much more the pigs would like this cage. It also looks very nice as its not as tall as most pet store cages. I have read through all the 51 reviews on this cage and the other 81 on the expansion cage and want to make sure I put some things to bed. This cage is a sturdy cage. It went together very easily and had it setup in less than 10 minutes with the divider and cover. I did not have to use any other ties other than the ones that came with the product. The velcro was easy to attached the cage also and I don't understand how some people have such a problem putting this together as its very easy. I use a thick towel in one end with bedding for the feeding area and in the other large play area a thick rug and fleece over it. It makes it very easy to clean up poo daily off the fleece. I have an extra fleece, towel and rug to replace every few days while one is in the washer. This saves money on the bedding as I am not buying as much anymore and it also keeps the cage cleaner and smelling better. My pigs love the cage. They were popcorning like crazy nuts when I put them in there. They have so much more room now to roam while in the cage. I ended up having a couple end tables that I put together and covered with a nice table cloth and the cage fit perfect on it. Check the size dimensions before you buy as it is large. The only issue I had was my water bottle did not sit at the level I wanted it to due to the cage bar height, but I rigged something up for it to work. I highly recommend this product as you will not be disappointed.

NICE cage. We're back to having guinea pigs, two this time, and knew that with two we would need a bigger cage than our old one (from when we only had 1 guinea pig). After looking at different guinea pig housing options on You Tube and Amazon we decided to go with this larger Midwest cage and so glad we did. This cage is sold elsewhere online but Amazon had the best price. 1) The cage is big enough for two guinea pigs. We have two plastic guinea pig "igloos" in this cage and there is still extra space for the pigs to run around. There is also the ability to add on by simply attaching another Midwest cage and using one of the doors as a ramp into the expanded area. An addition can be done in an "L" shape which fits nicely into the corner of a room. 2) The divider with ramps is genius. The divider can be set up anywhere in the cage - Midwest recommends sectioning off 1/3 of the cage to use as a "kitchen" area. The benefit is being able to keep food and hay in one area, and because the divider has material at the bottom the hay and food stays in the feeding area and not tracked all throughout the cage. This is a HUGE plus because guinea pigs require a lot of hay and let's face it, hay is messy. The divider can also be used to completely block off a section of the cage. The ramps double as a lockable door. 3) Easy set up. One person can set this cage up. Basically the outer wire walls are set on top of the flexible canvas-type bottom and the bottom is attached to the cage with velcro straps. This Plus Habitat has a wire lid that attaches with clips. Ends of the lid can be opened up to allow access to the cage and the whole lid can be detached as well. 4) This cage is surprisingly sturdy! Keep in mind that it can't easily be moved - where it's set up is where it will be. The bottom is soft. It's strong, like canvas, but it's soft. 5) Easy to clean! OK, a cage this big seems like it would be obnoxious to clean. Hardly. The trick here is *NOT* using bagged shavings or the fluffy traditional bedding material. This cage works BEST with fleece bedding. We use what a lot of others do: first lay down a thick layer of newspaper, then put an old towel on top, then the top layer is fleece material. (The towel keeps the newspaper from sticking to the fleece). Fleece is cheap - anywhere from $3.00 - $11.00/yard depending on patterns - and a yard of fleece works perfectly for this cage. There's plenty of info online, especially You Tube, showing how to use fleece bedding for guinea pigs. Basically it works like this - the guinea pig pee moves right through the fleece and is absorbed by the towel and newspapers. The fleece stays dry. This is also odor free. When it's time to clean up the newspaper gets tossed out, and the towel and fleece get a good shaking out and then thrown in the washer to clean. We spray the cage bottom with vinegar and water, wipe it clean, and set up the fleece system again. Super easy, super fast. And so much cheaper than buying bedding all the time. Some folks use disposable bed liners instead of newspaper - and even with those it's cheaper than buying bagged bedding. Their poop does need to be cleaned out daily (who knew such small creatures could produce so much poop) - we got a small dust pan and brush at the dollar store and just sweep the dried waste into the dust pan. No big deal. 6) This is a guinea pig only habitat. Any smaller critter will easily escape. 7) One of our guinea pigs did start gnawing on one of the velcro straps on the divider. Once we added more chew treats/toys this stopped. Something to keep an eye on. Overall, very glad we bought this cage! Would highly recommend this habitat.

Our guinea pigs like this new habitat. I needed something while I'm their temp caregiver that could fit on a table to make it easier for me to maintain. Overall it's a great cage and I'm glad that I purchased it. (Really them - I bought this one and then bought one without the division to connect together.) A few things: 1) One cage is barely big enough for two grown guinea pigs - if you have 2, get 2. 2) If you think you MIGHT get a 2nd cage (or more) in the future - be sure to put it together "inside out" so that you can connect the two. Why are ours not connected yet? Yea, because I have to take the initial one apart and put it back together "inside out" to connect. So even if you aren't sure if you'll get another later, put it together so that the doors swing inward so that they can become ramps later if need be! And set it up so that that door is in a place where it's easy to match the door on the addition - it'll make your life much simpler later! 3) You really need 2 people to do the assembly unless you're doing it on the floor then it should be easy enough to do alone. I did do it alone on a table but sections kept falling off and so it took longer than it would have if I'd had help or it had been directly on the floor. 4) While the cage is bite-proof, the walls are somewhat "flimsy" although they haven't fallen apart or anything. I've just noticed areas that have bent. That said, no escapes so it's fine - just not the most sturdy cage overall - if you're wanting something sturdier you probably need to build your own. But it's really fine - guineas aren't super interested in escaping anyway as long as they have food, they're not going anywhere! LOL 5) The divided cage is great - I think it's funny they cram themselves in with the food but they really like to go in that smaller space and hang out (and of course eat - they are little piggies after all!) - that room by far gets the messiest which really helps with clean up! I now have a litter pan in there instead of just the carboard box and it's even easier. It gives them more room in the "sleeping/play area" by keeping the dining room somewhat small. 6) The flooring is great and really easy to clean! I keep blankets over the top of it everywhere except in the "dining room" so that's the only section I really have to clean the flooring regularly. Once I get the two connected they will have a great guinea-condo!

This cage was perfect for my two guinea pigs, it's a really nice beginner cage. It was spacious enough for them to move around and roam comfortably, and it felt like the perfect size for two. I think adding more guinea pigs might make it feel a little cramped, though. It was easy to set up and clean, and I liked the little gates because they made it easy for the guinea pigs to come out or to separate the space into two sections. The cage also felt thick and sturdy, not flimsy. I used it for more than two years and it held up really well. Overall, it’s a durable and roomy cage for two guinea pigs.

We purchased this item as a habitat for two guinea pigs back in December for my daughter. I have to admit, as far as habitats go, this one is a great value for the money and once we became used to handling cleaning, it is now a cinch. At first, we use the aspen wood bedding throughout, and the piggies love it! There is plenty of room for separate huts and a run through chew log, a food dispenser, dishes, hanging kabob chew toys, little mirror (since they love their reflection) and a corner potty training station. The water bottles and salt licks fasten easily to the side and it is one huge deluxe home for the piggies. They love the room they have to run and play. The top can be left off entirely, although they actually like it on as it gives them a bit more sense of security. They will run and play, chase each other, popcorn, and coo. They are quite happy. One drawback was cleaning. Emptying all of the bedding out and cleaning the bottom so it would be clean enough that there was no odor was difficult. The canvas bottom is leak proof and holds everything just fine, but it was just a bit of a chore emptying all of it, cleaning the bottom then spraying it with the odor cleanser. So! We have begun using the puppy mats that you would use to potty train a dog with, inside the habitat, under the bedding. Using two is just the right size to cover the entire bottom and go just far enough up on the sides that you can retrieve it easily and still keep the majority of the mess from escaping while you roll up, and remove the entire mess... MUCH EASIER and cleaner. And if you put in ample bedding, the piggies don't even know it's there so they don't try to chew on it. Just make sure it's completely covered with bedding so they can't see it. So! Then, you just remove all the toys, huts, dishes, feeder, etc., and start at one end. Pull up the sides of the training mats so they're sticking up all around the sides, then begin rolling it up, bedding, mess and all. Pick up the whole thing (I use gloves so as to not get any pee pee on myself) and the place it in the trash. For what little escapes, I just use a kitty litter scoop to get the rest out, spray the bottom with the spray odor cleanser, then replace with new mats and bedding. NO ODOR at all! And if you spot clean like you're supposed to, you don't need to go through this process that often. Although, I don't like the smell of animals at all in the house (as we have a son with a respiratory illness) so we clean at least weekly. I highly recommend this habitat and it doubles for a playpen if you wanted to use it in this manner too. The divider is fun for the piggies with the ramp, and I agree with other reviewers that if you're going to purchase the top and divider, purchase them all together. Plus, this thing is so easy to assemble it's amazing. We have absolutely no complaints with this unit. I think, of everything we've had to purchase for the piggies, the most difficult thing to find was a water bottle that didn't leak all the time. This was one heck of a chore... I received the cage before the expected delivery time. It came nicely packaged in a small box surprisingly. I was skeptical about the cage due to all the reviews i had read about it. So this is my experience with this cage. Some reviews stated that it was difficult putting the cage together, but personally I didn't even open the instruction to put it together. The cage was very self explanatory. Other reviews stated that the cage was very flimsy and not sturdy. I can agree that it is a bit flimsy where the cage folds; however i solved that issue by using zip ties to keep the cage in place. I personally think that for the intended purpose it is sturdy enough to house my two guinea pigs, but because there will be times i will be moving it the zip ties made sense for me to use. If you have no intention of moving the cage then zip ties are not necessary. There were other reviews i read that stated this cage is very heavy and very hard to move around. I personally did not find it hard to lift and maneuver around my house; however, it also depends on what type of bedding and objects are placed in the cage. I use fleece bedding and their houses are either the plastic igloo or a cardboard house i made myself. So for me it is actually very light to lift and move or even drag. There were other reviews that stated it was a very big cage and not suitable for small places. This did concern me because i do live in an apartment with limited space, but i took the risk and bought it anyways since in pictures it did not look very big. I was also concerned that my guinea pigs would not have more room to roam around play. Once it was put together i did not find it to be EXTREMELY big. It is longer than most cages and a bit wide then most; however, i was pleasantly surprised that even though it was longer it was perfect. My girls have enough room to roam and play and it was the perfect size for my small apartment. The flooring of the cage is material but study enough for the intended purpose. The times i did lift my cage is did sag a little but nothing to serious. My guinea pigs didn't mind i lifted them in their cage nor did they notice. I am using the top cover of this cage because i have a toddler that liked to stick her hands where they don't belong. The top does have clips that attach to the side of the cage. It can be a little annoying to undo when your feeding or cleaning the cage, but it does the job. I put their food and hay on top of the cage and so far i have not had any issues. This cage by far was so easy to clean. I do use the sectional in the middle to separate their food and sleep area. When i clean i close them off in one section while i clean the other section. I have not machine washed the bottom part but from what i understand it can be washed that way. Overall, I am pleased with this cage and have decided to keep it. It is certainly better then my last cage and my girls have enough room where they are not annoying each other anymore. When i do get a bigger cage i will be buying another one to make their living space even bigger. I am also very happy I do not have to be constantly cleaning and sweeping the floors =))!!

I bought my two guinea pigs one of these this summer off Amazon. It was about twice the size of the cage they lived in before. I chose not to use the divider because I thought they would enjoy the space more if it was completely open. They seemed really happy. The added space made them run around and bounce. It had plenty space for two pigs, two hay feeders, two fleece beds, an edible log and an igloo. Also, it was possible to use fleece bedding just like we did in the old cage. Pinning the fleece down didn't work because one of my guinea pigs thought it would be a good idea to try to burrow under it. So, we thought it would be safer not to pin it down. However, if I was a more able seamstress, it would be possible to make changeable pads using fleece and towels so that she couldn't burrow anymore and making it super easy to change the bedding. The cage is sturdy and has survived being moved around, being pulled off the table by the dog, and being sat on by the cat. Because having the extra living space made the guinea pigs so happy, and because we love our guinea pigs so much, about six months after getting the Midwest Habitat, we decided to buy a second and connect them like it says you can. We rotated the outer panels so the doors faced in and were on the shorter ends. Then we added a second cage, using the ramps just like it shows. The ramps are very easy for the guinea pigs to use. One of our guinea pigs is very large and she can use it. One of our guinea pigs is really small and she is able to use it too. A few weeks after getting the second cage, we decided that we could easily accommodate a third guinea pig in the now massive habitat. We did and there is plenty room for three pigs, two igloos, two corner litter pans, four fleece beds, two hay feeders and an edible log. They also have a small wooden chew toy and a salt lick. There is still plenty space for them to run around--which they do frequently. Having the second cage actually makes cleaning their habitat easier. Before we would take them out of the cage, leave them on the floor in the kitchen, and change the fleece. Now, we simply change one side and then change the other. The pigs will all flock to the other side while we remove the fleece from either side. We use the door to barricade them out of the section as we change it. Once the clean fleece replaces the dirty fleece, they come in to explore the clean side and we barricade them in to change the other side. One side of the cage never gets as dirty as the other. They do not go to the bathroom as much on the side that they don't eat on. So, the feeding side of the cage is much messier. I have read other people's reviews on the Midwest Habitat and some people say that one of the downsides is that the guinea pigs chew on the canvas bottom of the cage. About five months after we got the cage, one of ours did start nibbling on the edges. However, she did not do so nearly enough to cause enough damage to remotely interfere with it's use. Also, from what I understand, the canvas bottom is healthier because it ventilates much better than a thick plastic bottom. A lot of people build their own guinea pig cages, which is great. However, I lack carpentry skills. Also, a lot of the custom made cages I've seen don't have a lid. For me, the lid was essential as I have two cats (who aren't really interested in harming the guinea pigs but do want, for some reason, to explore their cage). Also, it is extremely convenient, easily expandable, and easy to use. Therefore, if you are like me and lack carpentry skills, this is an easy way to give your guinea pigs all the space he or she needs. Getting two of these cages was the BEST decision I have made to make my pets happy. They went from living in a cage to a true habitat, a real home. It really made them come alive. I would invest the money on this product all over again in a heartbeat! I highly recommend it!

Loved the size. Fits perfectly for my 2 piggies. As other reviewers said, the canvas itself is an issue as the piggies have started staining them and chewing off them although i usually had a fleece and pee pads. Especially worse so on the ramp sides, likely one day the canvas on the ramp may be entirely eaten up by them lol. Aside, liked that it is open top, spacious and generally easy to build and maintain. Material seems to be durable as well. Hopefully it does not rust as easy. A little tad expensive though compared to other diy c&c cages.

Es fácil de montar, es más grande de lo que esperaba y de buen material. El techo es muy práctico ya que puedes abrirlo por partes o quitarlo todo con facilidad. Para dos cobayas es genial.
