Does this gauge hold the pressure reading on the dial after removing from the tire valve?

Yes, and with a vengeance . I've measured 60# on the temp spare, by chance not reset it, and when I next used the gauge several DAYS later it was still exactly the same. I'm happy to report this, as losing the reading was an issue with my Deluxe model that JACO immediately replaced. Both now hold readings, but I've not 'tested' how long for the Deluxe. Certainly, my Elite Pro holds its reading as well as anyone could expect -- thanks, JACO!

Yes, the housing of the gauge is constructed from brass (stem and chuck), the bezel and body are constructed from steel - as you can see, it's built to last!

Can I use it to deflate excess pressure?

Yes, the button just below the dial is used to deflate and to reset the dial between readings. Just press and hold until the pressure reaches your desired psi. You press and release button to reset dial to zero.

Great gauge

Bought as backup for small digital gauge, I never trust a single device when it comes to tyre pressures. The JACO ElitePro is solidly made and feels like a quality product. The "telltale" indicator is very handy in use too.
