Working distance is perfect
I do 1 and 5 star reviews. FWIW, my bifocal eyesight is +2.25-+2.50. I CANNOT use head magnification due to heavy respirator filters and/or glasses. Also, various diopters just make things way too fussy for what I do. It IS difficult to find low magnification that has "working distance/space" underneath. The photos show an ordinary small file and there is room to maneuver from object to lens. I can also paint with short brushes. So many products fail to mention this. My craft requires me to stand and I do not need glasses to make it work. The glass lens is crystal clear and large enough to get a field of view with BOTH eyes. The lights are very bright and are either on or off (no mode switching color or intensity) and the color of light suits my eyes. The AC power has a very small adapter (it is small enough to fit into a power strip without occupying too much space and has a very light, thin, long cord so it doesn't anchor or "grab" the arm. You still need supporting light to balance the brightness, meaning, using it in the dark, for me, is blinding. The arm swivels in base which is heavy "enough" to hold in a stationary position but it has limits, i.e., don't expect to bend the arm at base horizontally and get "L" shaped coverage. It arcs well and should be good enough for reading at a desk. The included clamp is most effective at exactly one inch. Do not buy if you plan to use clamp on thicker material or a great deal thinner. The last two "mechanical" mentions are due to the weight of the lens, which IS the best feature, so take it for what it is. It is remarkably substantial and does not seem to be a "consumable." It is excellent.

Gamechanger
I own a magnifying glass that cost half the price of my current one. And I know you've been wondering, just like I did: Does paying twice as much make sense? Yes, yes, it does. Previously, I thought my brushes weren’t good enough. Or maybe I just wasn’t a good enough miniature painter. But it turns out the lamp wasn’t good enough. The evenness of the lighting and the clarity of the magnification make a huge difference.

Great light source, easy to use
I bought this to help with painting board game miniatures and I am so glad I did. The light source is amazing. I use it for the light more than the magnifier but both ate extremely useful. The light is nice and bright and the magnifier is clear and easy to use. It comes with a nice heavy base or a clip that can be attached to the side if the table and both work very well. It is easy to switch between the two. The neck on the lamp is very sturdy but easy to adjust and stays in the position you put it in until you want to move it again. It's by far the best $20 I've spent on this hobby. Highly recommended.

Best Desk Lamp, period
I am an avid crafter and handmade seller, lighting is seriously one of my biggest challenges. Not just for actually seeing what I'm doing but also for photography of my finished products. I have a number of name brand desk lamps and professional lighting systems and I'm telling you, this is the ONE! I just purchased my third one and now have all my angles covered. Here's what makes this one better than the others: - Versatility. I can move these lights literally anywhere. Being able to change the stand from base to clip allows me to use the light any which way I need it. And the flex neck allows me to position the light anywhere I need it most without having to move the base/clip. - Quality. This lamp is solid. Like, literally, it is solid. Some other brands of these will fall over if I try to extend the neck too much, this one is not going anywhere (my cats have tested this feature repeatedly). Unlike other lamps with clips that won't hold or the spring wears out after a few moves , this one requires me to use both hands to open the clip. I have no doubt that the clip attachment will outlast any others. - Lighting. As I have mentioned I have many different lights and this one is truly the brightest, whitest of them all which is exactly what I need. - Magnification. As advertised, but actually better. The lighting is perfectly balanced to the size and magnification of the lens (no shadows but doesn't wash out the details of what you are looking at). The lens is what I consider to be pretty high quality. It is somewhat dust resistant (I can easily just blow off dust particles without having to wipe the lens) and cleans easily and stays clear (some lenses will cloud or look scratchy when cleaned with a cloth). My cats have also tested this aspect numerous times. Nose prints clean off easily. All in all, an absolutely great purchase!
