What’s the difference from this and the gree gree two?

Ditching the “2” in their iconic belay device’s name, Petzl has updated this assisted-braking classic by expanding the range of ropes it can accommodate: from 8.5mm to 11mm. In other words, what was formerly the Grigri 2 is now just the Grigri (it has the 2’s smaller size viz. the original model, and weighs 6.2oz), and it’s been retooled to work with the new ultra-skinny single ropes.

Can this work with 8mm rope?

Hi there, On Petzl, its does say it can be used with single ropes from 8.5 to 11 mm. So for safety, I wouldn't chance using an 8mm rope. If you would like, The Petzl Reverso is compatible with most rope diameters: single 8.5 to 10.5 mm, half 7.1 to 9.2 mm, and twin 6.9 to 9.2 mm.

Worth the price

The best option for single rope rappelling in my opinion, full proof device for anyone new to rappelling that doesn't want to try their hands at using an ATC. Fairly lightweight and super solid product.
