Chris de Burgh - Live in Concert: The Road to Freedom

I was certainly skeptical and decided to buy this with some reservations. Some other reviews here were downright unkind and made this DVD seem like something you wouldn't even use as a coaster.Well, to each his own, I guess...and we all look for and expect different things.This DVD shows an intimate performance - although in a large hall, it's C de B solo, so there's no band or other band members to hide behind and he comes across as very candid and truly enjoying performing solo. It's remarkable to also see how strong an instrumentalist (i.e. piano and guitar player) he is to be able to carry a full concert without anything else in the form of musical backing. I like how, at one point, he wanders around the audience, singing a medley of songs. To some that would be cheesy, self-absorbed, comical or even 'what-the-hell-is-he-doing??' (as evidenced by some reviews here), but I thought it a very appreciative and humble way to connect with his audience, as if to say, 'Thank You for coming to the show. I am not up here and you down there; we are all together so let's have some fun together.'There's also a bit where it shows his fans getting ready for the show and also C de B talking about his love of wine. Well, why not? If you adore his music, it's fun to see a bit of what other interests he has.

the song the lady in red means a lot to me romantically. The dvd is perfect in every way and I will play and watch it many times. Thank you for having it.

A MUST for anyone who knows Chris DeBurgh music. This dvd concert is absolutely incredible. Intercut with background visuals and closeups of the audience.....Chris walks around the fans as comfortable as he's walking around his house! The sound is superb also.....the acoustic guitar is just outstanding.Definately a five star rating!

This is a wonderful DVD with Chris de Burgh at his best with only his guitar and piano. Over the years his voice has only grown better and he can still reach the high notes. His interaction with the German audience is evident and the extra of an interview with Chris is special. Highly recommend.

I wasted my money to watch CdeB 1.) try but fail to carry a full concert with only himself 2.) see the camera repeatedly zero in on a touched fan in the audience...who happens to be part of CdeB's marketing organization 3.) try to convince everyone that he irons his own shirts and is not a rich snob.Chris DeBurgh, I'm a fan of your music and lyrics, please stop cheating your fans out of their money for sub-standard products as this one...Now I know why it was so affordable...but you dont even get what you pay for on this one...

i am anxiously awaiting for his concert in 2013; can't come soon enough for me. his voice is just so soothing. leaves you in another world.

In den Akustik-Versionen klingen seine Songs oftmals noch besser als im Original, auch die schnelleren Nummern. Das beste an der "Road To Freedom"-Tour war die Songauswahl. Im Laufe der Konzerte hat er jede Menge Songs gespielt, von denen ich nie gedacht hätte, dass er sie überhaupt je live spielen würde, dazu gehört "It's Such A Long Way Home" vom "Crusader"-Album. Leider wurde das Stück ebenso wie "Sight And Touch", "Last Night" und die wunderschöne Piano-Version von "It's Me (And I'm Ready To Go)" von der DVD weggeschnitten. All diese Songs wurden auf der Tour regelmäßig gespielt und ohne sie kann man meiner Meinung nach keine DVD veröffentlichen, die der Tour gerecht wird. Meiner Meinung nach hätte er eher welche von den Standart-Sachen wie "Lady In Red" oder "Don't Pay The Ferryman" weglassen können.Fazit: die Musik ist zwar super, aber wegen der schlechten Songauswahl nur 4 Sterne.
