Another Episode S / 0 - light novel

I read this book only a week after having finished the original. The story seems weak at first, but it steadily gets better, leading to a great plot twist, (because of the way it's written, you can tell that a plot twist is about to happen when it does, but you can't quite tell what the plot twist is going to be) it's altogether a great book, although just slightly less than the first.

Honestly ever sense I found the ANOTHER anime I have watched it over and over again. I have trouble watching things more then once too so that’s a sign of how good this series is! When I found out this series had books I knew I NEEDED them. I have the physical manga, Vol 1 and 2 of the novel digital, this one and Another 2005 physical copy. Now I would say Another is one of the best series ever. Not only does the phenomenon catch my interest (I would not wanna experience it though) all the books could be read as stand alone books. However the ending to this one is kinda confusing but ima be honest when I say the endings to all of them are confusing when first read. After all these years I have a feeling nothing new will come to this series but if it ever does you bet I will be right here waiting.

"Another" was a fantastic novel by Yukito Ayatsuji, and while I was apprehensive about the idea of a sequel involving the same characters, I was glad to see that this was a totally separate plot that stood just fine on its own, only involving one of the previous main characters (Mei Misaki) in a mostly-supporting role. In contrast to the original novel, this story relies much less on suspense and urgency, so the rather slow pacing and lack of tension may put off fans of the original. Instead, it focuses more on the mystery and character introspection, which is to its credit as I felt there was a lack of decent characterization in the previous novel. I appreciate the effort to avoid reiterating the same themes and rely on the same gimmicks, although there is a bit of a Shyamalan inspiration still present to try and surprise you at the end. Altogether, I enjoyed the story a lot, and while I'm eager to see how the calamities of Yomiyama North proceed, it was refreshing to see the themes of the original novel play out in a different plot altogether.

It’s a great side story that gives more attention to second main character, Mei Misaki.

Not as good as original but I guess if you want to read a bit more story with Mei in it then you will like it

Although the book description doesn't make this entirely clear, this hardback contains both Yukito Ayatsuji's novel Another Episode S and Hiro Kiyohara's manga Another Episode 0. The novel reads in the conventional western style from the beginning of the book, while the manga is in the Japanese style reading backwards from the end. You really shouldn't embark on Episode S unless you have already ready Another. Although, chronologically speaking, it's a side story to the original novel – it relates what happens to Mei Misaki when she takes a brief holiday just before the climactic events of the class trip – it is thematically more of a sequel in that it expands on the themes of Another. Mei isn't even really the main character, since most of the story is narrated by the ghost of one of her grown-up friends, Teruya Sakaki, a lucky survivor of the curse of Class 3 eleven years previously, who cannot clearly remember the events leading up to his recent death or what happened to his corpse. When Mei comes looking for him at his former home, she helps him in his quest to establish how and why he died. Koichi Sakakibara plays even less of a role than Mei, appearing only fleetingly in the bookends of the story. Although Episode S is satisfying as a short, self-contained mystery with some clever plot twists along the way, it also introduces elements in its bittersweet climax that resonate with the events of Another. Episode 0 is a little more ephemeral, being a sort-of prologue to the main Another manga and telling the story of Koichi's aunt, Reiko, at the time of his birth and then jumping forward to his arrival as a teenager at her home in Yomiyama. It's nicely drawn and an interesting addendum to the saga, but it doesn't really work as a standalone story and is basically only relating events that were already explained in flashback in the original novel. As such, it is really only recommended to Another completists.

Another es esa historia que hace muy diferente el termino de Miedo/Suspenso/Misterio pero lo lleva de una manera que pega muy bien con su historia base, asi que cuando un Spin-Off protagonizado por la principal y de la cual parte la historia original sono de una buena manera. Para un lector con un pseudo ingles fue una lectura impresionante, eso si espero si algun dia se tomaran la molestia de traducirlo porque fuera de todo es una historia muy interesante de Mei y su viaje fuera de Yaminorte, Another 0 fue como una cosa que me tomo por sorpresa pues crei que este seria la historia en novela pero es sorprendente lo que se hizo aqui.

Comparada com a edição do Another normal, essa aqui é bem melhor! Miolo costurado, capa realmente dura em vez daquela meio macia, além de muito mais bonita e trabalhada apesar dos estilos diferentes, e até um sumário tem agora. As folhas do mangá são de boa qualidade também, sem nenhuma transparência (em oposto à folha normal do livro em si, que se mantém igual ao do outro Another, sendo um pouco transparente e possuindo aquele mesmo aspecto lembrando um papel reciclado). Entrega da Loggi e Amazon foram rápidas e o livro chegou em perfeito estado, sem nenhum amassado ou problema do tipo.

História muito boa, cria várias situações de suspense. Por ser um spin off é natural que mude toda a ambientação da história, além de mudar a narrativa, focada mais no suspense que no terror, entretanto continua ótima. O fato de ser spin off por si só é um ponto negativo por não adicionar nada de novo ao universo de Another. Uma ótima leitura para quem é fã do primeiro volume. Há também um mangá na parte final no qual é contado um pouco da história anterior da Reiko, nada que seja grande coisa, mas é sempre bom ter material a mais.
