2006 release of the fourth album, eponymously titled, by the powerful singer/actor from Quebec. He received over 150 songs from numerous potential collaborators for this project. Contrary to it's predecessor "Reviens", which was produced with a sense of urgency that brought it's share of excitement and pleasure, he decided to slow the pace. He took time to think about new concepts, time to build bonds with faithful friends as well as time to learn about prospective collaborators. "I always hope to find songwriters, composers that are unknown to me and that will impress me. I choose a song, not collaborators. It might sound strange, because on most of my albums, I've worked with big names but only because they are who I know, which makes it more natural". The set was produced by Pascal Obispo, Aldo Nova and Tino Izzo. Although it is not a concept album, time is a unifying theme throughout this outstanding collection of songs. Review: The third time's the charm...Garou's best work yet. - Garou is a very talented pop singer from Quebec whose work only gets better with each successive album. He matured rapidly between his first album Seul (2000) and Reviens (2003). On his third self-titled release, his unique voice (think Joe Cocker in French) and solid band make this one of the best Francophone albums of the past few years. Don't let the fact that his albums are in French put you off. Even if you speak little or no French, Garou's passionate delivery and infectious beats will make you a fan on the strength of the music alone. Celine Dion and her husband / manager Rene Angelil were instrumental in Garou's career, and there is a supposed collaboration on an English-language Garou album in the future. To date, Garou has recorded only a handful of tracks in English, including the Notre Dame de Paris English cast album and a magical cover of "Dust in the Wind" on William Joseph's "Within." The album starts out with a bang on "Le temps nous aime," a track heavy on wailing electric guitars and a dance-friendly beat. The tempo slows and slides into the haunting waltz "Je suis le meme." The third track picks up the pace on "Plus fort que moi." "Que le temps" is a power ballad that brings to mind Garou's original work on Luc Plamondon's musical "Notre Dame de Paris," in which Garou starred in his breakout role as Quasimodo. Other standouts include "Viens me chercher," featuring Garou singing in harmony, and the haunting closing ballad "Quand je manque de toi." "Garou" is more strongly rock-oriented than "Reviens," which featured nods to gospel and country. The orchestration supports Garou's passionate delivery without overwhelming, although some of the backing sounded too synthetic for my tastes. The album was produced by Pascal Obispo, Aldo Nova and Tino Izzo, and is loosely connected by time (hence the nod to the wristwatch on the cover). "Garou" is a wonderful introduction to the vibrant Quebecois music scene (largely under the radar outside of Quebec and French-speaking communities in Canada). Pick up "Garou" and discover this unique Quebecois talent today. Review: Wonderful. - Excellent quality and very meticulous in all its details.

Gravely and soulful
My Belgian sister-in- law introduced this chanteur Quebecois to me several years ago. Everyone in my household instantly loved his soulful expressive gravely voice. Even those who are not fluent in French, myself included, would love this album. I'm really looking forward to his next album.

French or not he is good
I'll be honest. I learned about Garou purely by accident. I purchased his english language cd at a Hastings store for a quarter and I was very surprised at what a good singer he is. I must have worn out that cd and even played it for my eighteen -year-old who liked it. So I purchased this cd to hear what he sounded like in his native language. Even though I don't understand french I liked his music and would like to hear more from him. So I hope to expand my library of music by adding more his titles.

More French
Songs from another male singer singing in French. But Garou is Canadian which makes a it a bit of an enigma for me. I love being sung to in French as it brings me the feeling of France - as does this. Huge vitality - very similar for me to Jacque Brel - who I still listen to and enjoy. But this music is of today not yesterday. And a great singer he is too.
