Leonardo da Vinci was a gifted painter, talented musician, and dedicated scientist and inventor, designing flying machines, submarines, and even helicopters. Yet he had a hard time finishing things, a problem anyone can relate to. Only thirteen paintings are known to be his; as for the illustrated encyclopedia he intended to create, all that he left were thousands of disorganized notebook pages. Here is an accessible portrait of a fascinating man who lived at a fascinating time—Italy during the Renaissance. Review: Perfect for our 9-year-old - We bought this book for our son to be able to use it for a book report. He was able read the whole thing within a few days of diligent reading. (Parents were able to read it too so we could ask him questions.) He was able to do a written book report and n an oral report. The teacher sent his oral report was the best in the class. Review: Great introductory information for Old and Young alike! - Our family loves that, “who was?” Series! As a homeschool mother of four, we have valued the writing style, illustrations, and engaging format of these books. After borrowing them from the library for a while, we ended up purchasing our favorites because we found ourselves using them as a reference books. Great introductory information for Old and Young alike!

Great for Kids!
I really like this book. It's easy to read and full of details. The information on Leonardo is interesting for kids as well as adults. The art work along the way is great too to keep the history interesting. The book is made to understand Leonardo from his loveless childhood to his self views of failing as an adult. I felt the story motivates and also encourages children to know that failure often means a way to success and to explore and do what you love, is a life worth living.

Nice book for an 8 year old
Love these books. My son, who is 9 has been reading them for a little over a year now and this book is wonderful. I must say that this one is not one of his favorites. He is a history junkey, lol. He so far seems to love the Jackie Robinson, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Robert E Lee, What is the world series the best as a 8 and 9 year old. I also read these to him in the evenings and I really enjoy them as a 40 year old father. I have learned so much from them as well. Sometimes I read them before or after my son in order to have an educated discussion with him about the subject of the book. I really also get alot out of them as well.

GREAT BOOK
These "who are books" are a great way to get young readers excited about reading and learning about historical figures at the same time. They also open the door to discuss other things occurring at the same time (ie the powerful families at the time, the type of art created during this time etc...). My granddaughter loved reading this (she is 7) and I actually learned a few things myself (although no one was more surprised about this then myself ha). I would highly recommend this book

good info, fun style
Got this for quick biography on him for 7th grade art docent . Quick read, good info, fun style, perfect. It was great also to show kids that even geniuses like Leonardo do have big humiliating failures and that just normal and that life goes on. Also like the childhood from "broken" family, helping to show kids that it is not kids who have it all easy who succeed, it's your own drive.

Great series of books!
I love this series! They are great, easy-to-read, fact based biographies that my children have grown up with. Sacagawea was our first book because of my daughter's obsession and from there we moved to other strong historical women, such as Helen Keller and Amelia Earhart. Then we would find subjects to correspond with whatever my kids were studying at school. Really, really recommend this series!!!
