Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (PS5)

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an excellent modern reimagining of the opening section of the original game. The combat blends real-time action with tactical commands really well, while Midgar has been greatly expanded with more character development, side content and memorable set pieces. The PS5 version looks and runs noticeably better, and the included INTERmission episode starring Yuffie adds a worthwhile extra story with its own enjoyable combat style. A polished and substantial RPG that is well worth playing before Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

This is the first part of the Final Fantasy VII remakes and it’s reimagining of the initial Midgar section of the original brought forward to modern platforms. By reimagining, I mean it doesn’t play 1:1 with the original, but it’s a solid adaptation that goes deeper into the story and introduces new gameplay mechanics.

First part of a trilogy series plenty of action within the game lovely graphics great game play

Obviously this is only part one of the remake trilogy so it is only a part of the story. However, the content was great. It was amazing to relive one of my favourite games with greater graphics and voice acting. It’s hard to say if the fate and whispers stuff will pay off longer term until the trilogy is complete, but for this game I am so happy that they expanded the first part of the game. I love the final fantasy series and the remake made all my Christmases come at once. It follows true to the original story for the most part while still feeling fresh and adding more depth and character development. It really is up there with my favorite games ever. I love the combat in this game and felt at the time that this is the gold standard moving forward, then Rebirth came out, saying no more. I come from the generation playing Final Fantasy on the NES and SNES, and FFVI labelled FFIII being one of my favorite games ever, so I love turned base combat, but I love this combat just as much. There is room in my heart to enjoy these remakes and still love my retro kicks.

Possibly one of the best 'remakes' since Resident Evil on the Gamecube. This is the second time I've bought this. I've had it digital but I wanted a hard copy. I had also not got round to play INTERGRADE. The Dlc (which is a code) only just packs more fun into the game with what seeming feels like an even more polished version of the main game. The main game is a ride through the tunnel of love. With an epic story, beautiful visuals.. and I mean, absolutely stunning. A combat system which makes you feel you can take on anything and a God tier soundtrack.

Positives Can look amazing (big upgrade from the PS4 version) Soundtrack for the most part (some of the reworked music is great). Includes the dlc, and you can transfer your save from PS4. The changes made to Wall Market were needed and are most welcome 💜. Combat is rewarding (hard mode- no item usage -is a satisfying challenge). I liked the direction they took the story (lots of possibilities for the next installment). Boss and summon battles are intense! (Like you could only imagine in the original). Negatives Even on ps5 some textures/backgrounds look like they are from a ps3 game. The robot hand puzzle section/extended sewer section/train graveyard - just there to pad out the games run time, jeez! Loading Screens straight out of the early 2010's. Anime grunting in place of dialogue. Running down long paths from one enounter/quest hub to another can be tedious. Having to hold ∆ to open a door is a bit old hat in 2021.
