I'm giving this easel five stars for its quality and for being exactly the configuration I need for the size canvas I prefer. This is now my studio back-up easel. I have a professional Best (brand name) Santa Fe II large easel in my studio. It's my dream easel. I paint a lot of 36H x 24W paintings but when I need to paint great detail at the top, lowering that big easel to get that part of the canvas at eye level puts the wide base with the wide painting tray and two stainless steel canisters right at my shins, forcing me to lean over for any length of time wrecks my back. Back injuries keep me from standing for too long in front of any easel. That's where this Meeden easel comes in. Once assembled, it seem sturdy enough to satisfy my needs. Because the bottom section that the canvas sits on can be placed at a very low position, working with the upper parts of the canvas will be a breeze. Now, those instructions: While there are no written instructions, the diagrams for assembly would be adequate if they weren't so darned small. I had to scan them in and blow them up on my computer to get the job done. Not everyone has those computer skills. I think the average user would still have a problem with the size. It's just SILLY SMALL.

Such an amazing product. Flexible up and down control is movable. Very durable seems this will stay with us forever and have the next generation inherit this , I love this a-lot! I enjoy every bit of art we make!

I tried the large version. This feels like pretty solid quality, and looks good. Sturdiness is ok. It adjusts nicely. If you paint sitting down, this is a great choice. *** If you paint standing, it will only work comfortably for large pieces. *** The max height of the bottom support (where the bottom of your canvas sits) is about waist high. This is ok if your canvases tend to be larger (maybe 24 inches high or more). To paint smaller pieces, this is about a foot too low. I tried putting a wood block under my canvas to raise it, but to me this looks weird, and feels unstable / fussy. Also, with the bottom support adjusted all the way up, the stick at the top almost reaches the ceiling and looks funny. Not ideal for my purposes. Took about an hour to put together, maybe 30 min to carefully disassemble.

Quick arrival. I am going to use the easel to display large art frames I build & was concerned about the sturdiness. It is a little heavier than I anticipated and that combined with a really well thought out design and hardware makes this easel rock solid. I'm glad I bought the one made of ash wood, a hardwood that baseball bats are made of. I imagine that helps. I assembled it between touchdowns and glugs of Dr. Pepper and all told, it only took me 45 minutes. I read other reviews where people had difficulty, but I don't know how the instructions could be written more clearly.Even the hardware is divided into separate, clearly labeled bags. They include a decent Philips screw driver, but a #2 size Philips would probably be a little better. It is easily adjustable, but that doesn't make it loose goosey. I almost bought the knock off, cheaper brand, but this one is worth every penny. I couldn't be more satisfied. Thanks for a great product.

I bought this months ago and we tried to assemble it for months. Even my builder husband threw up his hands. Last night, it finally came together and it is simply BEAUTIFUL AND EXQUISITELY DESIGNED. It is also sturdy and folds flat which is a very nice feature. However, the ASSEMBLY DIRECTIONS need to be TOTALLY redesigned. The pictures are so small that it its impossible to see the needed details. They should be enlarged and more detailed and there should be some written directions coinciding. It has a dangerous spring that buyers should be warned to wear protective eyewear when assembling if they can figure it out. It shot across the room and into another room FOUR times at high speed. The parts should be labeled front and back and left and right. When my builder husband, after multiple tries to read and follow the "directions" threw up his hands, I studied it in detail. I finally ripped out the front "picture" –also too small– so I could refer to it as I tried to follow the design construction and the too too small visual only instructions. The instructions were so bad that this entire project got assembled and disassembled completely at least three times –and other parts many more times than that– to get the front to back and left to right parts in the right order. My husband joined back in as I made slow progress and together we assembled it, finally, IN EIGHT HOURS OF TIME! I did look at the website and could not find this easel directions on it. The video on Amazon is so quick, who could follow it? Not us anyway. I contacted the company and they responded quite politely and within hours, said they had enclosed step by step instructions and a video, but it was IN CHINESE! After all this, I felt I needed to write this review both for the company and for future buyers. I have tackled puzzles that –and they are meant to be figured out and challenging– that are easier than this was. In conclusion: This is a VERY nice easel and, now that it is assembled, I am very happy with it! But honestly, Meeden, reconstruct your horrible directions.

An excellent easel, practical and attractive. I had a little problem putting it together, since the written directions are in Chinese and the clear illustrations are small, but it’s a relatively simple easel and doable. All the screw holes have already been started — except for 4 of them halfway through. And make sure you separate the springs; thinking it was one big unworkable spring held me up a bit. I haven’t used it yet, but it seems sturdy and I really like the wide shelf to rest the painting on. You don’t need to clip it at the top every time you move it (which I do a lot.) It’s probably less useful for plein air, though. It folds flat, but doesn’t collapse for easy transport.

The easel is sturdy, attractive and fits my purpose, holding a 3x2’ white board for homeschool. The directions are pretty clear. I only had to undo one move. Be aware that the “C” screws are two different lengths. The second set of two are for the very last attachment.

this is not the same brand as advertised. The product was not easy to assemble and turns out there was a couple of missing holes in one of the legs that we had to drill for ourselves even though this was supposed to be easy assembly and include everything.

So much to like about this easel. Suitable for adults and quite small children. I bought it for my 8 year old boy who is still very small. It's sufficiently well made that he'll have this for life if he continues painting, even if he grows tall. One of the features I really appreciated was the care and attention that has gone into the instruction manual and packaging all the screws and fixings. This made assembling what is a a fairly elaborate product very easy experience. The package included quite a few different sized screws and fixings. But each different fixing came in its own little pack, labelled A,B,C etc. Each assembly step called for just one fixing type so knew exactly what part I needed to use for each step and had it to hand. The build quality is good and looks good too. It's made of solid / sturdy beech wood. Looks good and has everything you need for a studio easel. The inclusion of a stepped locking mechanism and the top fixing bar make this very good value for money. Amazon asks users to rate this for being lightweight, which seems rather dumb to me. Although it folds down, it's not designed to be be a travelling easel. It's for the studio, around the house etc. You really want it to be heavy enough to withstand accidental knocks. All in all, very pleased. I should say I'd actually actually purchased another easel made of beech from Officeworks for about the same price before I bought this, but in comparison to this, it was really lacking in features, so I returned it in favour of this one. Definitely the right decision.
