Black Self Etching Primer 15.5 oz. (6/Pack)

I have been painting for over 30 years, and I'm here to tell you that SEM makes some of the best professional quality primers in the industry. I was leery of buying 1K rattle can primer for professional work, but it goes on smoothly, lays down great, dries very quickly, grabs on hard to bare metal, and completely cures overnight to a very hard finish. This stuff is the best of the best. Yeah, it's expensive, but when you want something that isn't going anywhere and locks tight to a surface, look no further! Next I'll be trying their 2K product. Highly recommended

I've used this on several projects. One truck I painted last year is still holding up very well. Note that this product is not intended to be applied in heavy wet coats like a primer filler as it can loose adhesion and peel if not allowed to flash off completely. I usually clean bare steel panels with denatured alcohol than sand with 120 grit on an orbital sander or scuff thoroughly with a maroon scotch bright pad and clean again to remove all traces of dust. When applying this I've found a very light first coat works best, allowing it to dry at least 5-10 minutes before applying a second light coat. After it's thoroughly dry (an hour or two, sometimes I leave it over night if it's humid or in cooler temps) I lightly scuff it again before applying several coats of primer sealer. Very good adhesion when applied properly.

Always difficult painting an ornamental aluminum fence, but this paint adhers perfectly!

I'VE TRIED DIFFERENT BRANDS OF SELF ETCHING PRIMER AND THIS STUFF IS GREAT. GOOD ADHEADSION AND EVEN LIKE THE COLOR ONCE DRIED.

Gave 4 stars because it does work pretty well on bare metal, but does not adhere as good as i had hoped. You MUST use a primer or paint/primer combo on top of this. Does not have any UV protection at all, so you must use a top coat of paint on this, or it will fade if exposed to sunlight. Contacted SEM directly about another question and they were not helpful.
