Simple, budget-friendly machine. Makes hot delicious coffee when we want it, every single time.
This affordable coffee maker is a gem, and that opinion comes from a pair of coffee-crazy coffee maker buying experts. We have spent a small fortune on coffee machines, always in pursuit of THE ONE, from an expensive industrial always on restaurant size Bunn because we were hoping for all stainless steel and no plastic, to everything in between. What we have learned, the hard way, is that spending a lot of money on a coffee maker does NOT equal a more delicious cup of coffee than a budget friendly machine like this. And pursuing a plastic-free machine that makes yummy coffee is like hunting for snipe. What we get with this machine, what I personally get as the setter-upper, is a straightforward ease of use machine that makes a delicious very hot cup of coffee, on a timer! no less, so that when our dogs wake us up at 2 am, as they do every day (that’s another story), the blessed coffee is inside the carafe beckoning to me, whispering…Forget about your happy dreams and your cozy bed with the satin pillow cases, Come hither… It is far and away the first quiet coffee maker we have ever owned, and we have owned soooo very many. No obnoxious buzzer. Just the near perfect silence of filtered water dripping over aromatic coffee. You can set the timer or not. The button is titled Brew Later. I use a magnifying glass because the am/pm in the upper right corner is ludicrously minuscule. So minuscule I still sometimes get it wrong. You can make a full pot or just enough. You can steal a cup during the brewing. This works better for us when we use a large Bunn paper filter, because the coffees we enjoy are finely ground. If we use a permanent filter they flow over and end up clogging things up. It even shuts off automatically so you never have to give it a second thought or worry. And you can buy a permanent gold tone filter that fits like a glove. I am currently using half Starbucks medium roast decaf with half gorgeous Seattles Best Portside Blend caffeinated ground coffee. I just pour the bags of coffee into a jar together. (We recently bought a Kitchenaid Cold Brew coffee maker so I want to get Starbucks Sumatra whole beans to grind for that. See! I told you we are coffee crazy!!). I cannot wait to make Sumatra fresh ground coffee in this machine. But I should mention it does better with a coarser grind. By the way decaf coffee has made giant leaps and bounds!! over the years. Who knew? the benefits of coffee without all the caffeine. After we enjoy our coffee in the wee hours, with our furry little stinkers, I set up the machine for the next day and push the Brew Later button once. Just the push of the timer button and I know I have another cup of joy to look forward to. If you accidentally push it more than once, it doesn’t matter. Still works. Tips: Do not overfill with coffee grounds, especially if they are Finely ground. The filter cup needs a bit of space between the spout and the grounds. We are comfortable making 10 cups. I believe I use a 1/3 measuring cup that I leave in the coffee jar, 3 scoops to a pot. Also, if you steal a cup during brewing, it won’t have had time to get very hot, especially if it is being poured into a cold cup. And if you overfill the basket, you will clog it up and the stealing a cup option becomes a small clean up operation. The machine tells you when it is time to run the Clean cycle. I simply add vinegar and water and press the Clean button. Afterwards I run a pot of water through it and Voila! Clean Machine. Update: We are hooked on freshly ground coffee of late. I found an inexpensive mess-free grinder on Amazon and we have been swooning this week over Seattle’s Best Portside Blend. It is a smooth, medium roast coffee that starts our day (or night) with the taste of coffee perfection.

So happy with the purchase. Easy to clean, good size, first time using I was afraid I was going to break the lid trying to open it, but I just needed a little more force. Temperature is good for me, not boiling hot, coffee tastes like it should. I use it mostly to make it ahead of time, so it's ready when I wake up, works great, wake up to coffee smell.

HOT TASTY COFFEE!
This review is for the BLACK+DECKER 12-Cup CM2046S. I am 3 weeks into this coffee maker and so far no regrets. For an inexpensive $62 coffee maker I was pleasantly surprised to how excellent tasting the coffee has been! The YouTube Reviewer Just A Dad took the water temperature, during brewing, at 190 degrees. After pouring into the cup it was 175. This Black & Decker has a sleek look a with a carafe that has a wide opening, making it very easy to clean. It uses flat bottom filters that easily fit into the basket. I like the pulsating flashing blue power button during brewing, and although there’s no beep at the end of the cycle it goes into countdown mode beginning at 120 minutes to let you know how long the coffee is in the carafe. After 2 hours it will automatically shut off. It has a Bold feature for optimal extraction of the coffee grounds. I made coffee with and without the Bold feature and either way the coffee comes out hot and tasty. It brews a little slower on the Bold setting and the coffee is slightly stronger without being bitter. Prior to this I had a Zujirushi 10 cup maker with thermal carafe and enjoyed it for about 3 years until it began leaking puddles of water. My wife and I also noticed that the coffee was gradually not as hot as it used to be. Comparing the flavor of this Black & Decker to the Zujirushi, the B&D noticeably brews a well rounded smoother tasting cup of coffee. We now realize that the Zojirushi made coffee a little bit on the bitter side. It’s much slower brew may have caused over extraction of the coffee grounds. Before that I owned the Bonavita BV1800 glass carafe and for about 5 years it made excellent coffee until the warmer plate failed. I also owned a Technivorm Moccamaster and tried different settings and could not get a decent cup of coffee. I expected much more for $359 machine with all the positive reviews and it’s reputation. The other thing I didn’t like about it was all the plastic parts that needed to be cleaned. I ending up returning it after 2 days. So this B&D coffee maker does have a couple of features that could use improvement. As others have pointed out the clock display screen is not back lit and difficult to read. When I use the bold setting I could barely see the tiny “Bold” reading on the display. Not the end of the world as I have just trusted that it’s on that setting and notice that it will brew slightly slower as the grounds are getting soaked a little longer for that optimal flavor. The other thing is the stainless steel carafe. It will keep coffee hot for maybe an hour as my wife noted. She drinks her coffee a little than I do and sometimes has her second cup an hour and a half later. The most important thing for me is the temperature and the flavor and this coffee maker checks off both of those requirements. This coffee maker does have a 2-year limited warranty, so if it survives 3 years, I feel that it was an excellent value! So far I can recommend this beauty without hesitation!

4.5 Stars - solid brewer - very happy - only a few things I'd change.
For several weeks, I ventured through a wormhole of videos and reviews on what coffee maker to get next. I wanted to update my Mr. Coffee that was about 7 years old with a new one that offered a thermal carafe. AT first, I was dead set on getting a SCA approved coffee machine. With the cheapest models coming in at $229, and most around the $350 mark, I was hesitant. So instead, I started looking at what beans I was using. After upgrading those, I noticed an immediate improvement in my Mr. Coffee. I went with this Black & Decker, because it was on the affordable side, the thermal carafe seemed solid (especially pouring out of), and the shower head spread evenly. After using for a few weeks, I'm happy to have made this purchase. It's super easy to use, the carafe keeps the coffee hot for 1.5-2 hours (even if you don't do the recommended "heating" of it), and the quality of the coffee I'm very happy with. It came with a reusable filter, which is nice to have, and the filter can hold the amount of beans I need for a quality brew. There are two minor, yet essential things I would change on it: 1) IT doesn't shut off immediately after the pot is finished brewing. Without a heating plate, there is no reason for the machine to stay on, yet it does. It only turns off after 120 minutes I believe. Again, with a thermal carafe, no need for the machine to stay on. 2) No noise or beeping indication that the pot is finished brewing. Relatively minor, I know. Yet, nice to have if you're running around. The blue light flashes while the pot is brewing, and remains solid when it's finished, so you're able to tell it's completed. Again, two minor things, yet overall, I'm very happy I got this machine. Will update my review in 6 months.

Love it!
Our old coffee maker started leaking, so I had to find a new one. I researched several on here, and ended up choosing this one. After reading SO MANY reviews, this one sounded the best. The price is right. We don't have any issues with this coffee maker. It brews a full pot of coffee very quickly. The programming feature is easy to use. The coffee pot is metal, so I don't need to worry about breaking any glass. It keeps your coffee hot for a long time! There have been times when we've brewed coffee one afternoon, and the next morning it is still slightly warm. The push-button pour spout is nice, but can be harder to use if you don't have a lot of arm/hand strength. My mom finds it a little difficult to hold the pot, push the button, and pour the coffee. The pot is easy to clean. I love the removable basket for the coffee grounds. You can dump the grounds and rinse it out very easily. The only thing I don't like about this coffee maker is that there is no back-light for the clock. It is hard for me to read the current & the program times.

Update - no longer recommending this item (was: Better than expected)
Update 11/16/25: I'm changing my review from a 5 to a 1. I bought this 6 months ago. As of about 1 month ago, the thermos no longer keeps the coffee even warm. I have no idea what could have happened to it. It hasn't been dropped or damaged in any way. I hand wash (I don't have a dishwasher). Mostly I just rinse it and allow it to dry. I noticed that when I take the pot off of the brewer, the outside of the pot is now HOT, which is a clear indication that the heat is escaping through the pot (not the lid). It never used to be hot. My coffee goes cold very very quickly. One of the main reasons I bought this was for the thermos feature, which no longer works. ================ What's life without coffee? My old pot died and they don't sell it anymore. I survived the coffee apocalypse with my French Press and espresso machine (go ahead and judge) while searching for a viable replacement for my morning support device. It turns out, that in spite of the cheaper price, I like this machine more than the one I had previously. The carafe works as well to keep the coffee hot, but the opening is much larger so I can get my hands inside to clean and dry. I usually use paper filters, but the provided reusable filter really works well without letting through the dust particles other filters have. It has the 'Strong' brew setting, which I use and appreciate. The water delivery arm seems to work so much better than the machines that just spray water out of the top cover. The water container is large and easy to fill. I like that the water route is sealed from beginning to end (cover closes tightly, the pot is sealed so no exposure to air allowing it to cool). The one thing that I find a little odd, but it's no deal breaker, is figuring out when it's finished brewing. Since the pot isn't on a heating element, I expected that the brew light would turn off when it's finished, but it doesn't. It does stop its slow 'flashing', but you'd have to stare at it for a couple of seconds to realize that. Instead, the better indicator is that the clock display changes from showing the time of day, to beginning a countdown from 120 minutes, so if it reads 117, you know it finished brewing 3 minutes ago. I think it's a completely unnecessary feature, but it certainly doesn't distract from the overall design.

hard to read the display
Ive been using this machine for a couple weeks and I really like it! Compared to my previous mechine, I really like the huge water fill area (I used to sometimes spill trying to hit a narrow slot) and also large lid on the caraffe that I can actually get my hand in to clean! (I used to have to use a wooden spoon to push a sponge around). The showerhead does great job spreading water over the grounds. My suggestions for improvement would be: -the display does not have any backlight so is difficult to read. Even knowing where to look for the word "strong" I often can't tell, and good luck finding the am/pm indicator. I have to use my phone as a magnifing glass or flashlight to see. (the strong feature btw is awesome; pulses the water for stronger flavor...takes longer is the trade off) -to me the pitcher pours slowly. you push button with thumb and it lets the coffee out. (Its faster than that but reminds me of aerating wine.) Somtimes I just take the lid off so I can pour faster. I also wish the base activated and warmed up the carafe a little. I make 6 cups and first cup will be fine but after that I need to zap in the microwave 30 sec. no biggie and I'd rather do that then drink coffee been sitting on a warmer. Oh and it's got a count up timer after the coffee is made, I guess to tell you how old the coffee is? I dont find necessary and so choose to manually turn off the machine to get the light to shut off, an extra step. Still, it makes good coffee and is easy to clean; for the money I'd buy again.

A great cup of coffee for a reasonable price!
This review is NOT for the "BLACK+DECKER Emeril Lagasse 15-Bar Espresso Machine with Milk Frother"! My review is for the BLACK AND DECKER CM2045B 12 Cup Coffee Maker. My 12 cup coffee maker is now 5 months old and working great! If you can find it, it's worth the price. Looks like B&D may have changed to a new model/design. Either way, check out my video if you want to know more.
