Frontiersman Bear Bell with Magnetic Silencer for Hiking & Camping

Using this on my bicycle frame primarily as a passive safety alert for pedestrians and pets in high traffic areas and paths; works well for this purpose, and best if it’s at a bit of an angle. It’s loud enough to be audible, and not so loud as to be intolerable. Definitely made to a price; the strap containing the magnet is best handled with care. The mount strap itself is robust but I can see how the rivet is probably a common fail point if used harshly. I bought mine in blue, love the hue. What more can you want for $5?

I did a lot of research even for the low cost of this bell, as we encountered a black bear on our walk in the woods a little while ago/ Our dogs are always on leases because of this The volume of the bells is loud enough to be heard but not be invasive or annoying, it has a constant sound as the dogs walk (we have it attached to their harness) reminds you at first of Christmas sounds. We have a medium size and small dog, it is fine for our medium size dog on its harness but for our small dog it is too big for its comfort level, so when we walk the smaller dog alone we just carry the bell ourselves. The magnetic silencer is just fine, it doesn't make it truly silent but it muffles the sound well. Highly recommend for the price, haven't come across and more bears yet hopefully that means the bell is working. Although I do need to say we do carry pepper spray and a air horn as back up.

The SABRE Frontiersman Bear Bell has earned its place as an essential accessory for outdoor enthusiasts venturing into bear country. As someone who frequently explores remote wilderness areas, I understand the importance of taking precautions to mitigate wildlife encounters, and this bear bell provides a simple yet effective solution. One of the standout features of the Frontiersman Bear Bell is its audible alert system. The bell emits a steady jingle as you hike, serving as an early warning signal to bears and other wildlife of your presence. This added awareness can help prevent surprise encounters, reducing the risk of potentially dangerous situations for both humans and animals. The magnetic silencer feature is a clever addition, allowing users to silence the bell when not needed, such as during breaks or when in camp. This versatility ensures that the bell's sound can be controlled based on the situation, adding convenience without compromising safety. Furthermore, the durable hook and loop strap attachment provide a secure and hassle-free way to affix the bell to backpacks, clothing, or gear. Its robust construction withstands the demands of outdoor adventures, offering peace of mind that it will stay in place even in rugged terrain. While the Frontiersman Bear Bell is a valuable tool for wilderness safety, it's worth noting that its effectiveness may vary depending on environmental factors and individual bear behavior. While it serves as a deterrent, it's not a foolproof solution and should be used in conjunction with other bear safety measures, such as proper food storage and bear spray. In summary, the SABRE Frontiersman Bear Bell is a reliable and practical addition to any outdoor enthusiast's gear arsenal. Its audible alert system, magnetic silencer, and durable design make it a trusted companion for navigating bear country with confidence.

This is not the cheapest bear bell on the market but I really like this one from SABRE. You can get bear bells starting from $2-3 from Walmart and other utility stores, yes they are cheap and they serve the purpose, but this bear bell comes with a magnetic silencer which I didn’t know I needed. I hang this to my dogs leash so it jingles whenever we go on a walk, but in areas that we know there is low risk of bears, we use the silencer because the bell can be very annoying on long hiking trips. The silencer function is the best in my opinion, it’s one of those things that I immediately fell in love with after trying it. This bell is going to last a very long time, and I’ll gladly pay more for the silencer function.

I was hoping this bell would be loud enough to detour bears before they got upon us while in Alaska. While we had no bear encounters, it wasn’t loud. I was thankful for a couple of people with us being loud talkers!
