This is a wonderful set with the self sharpening block for storage and keeps them sharp when you need to sharpen them all built into the block super handy..This set looks great and performs very well.

Great knife set for the money. Nice and sharp, good weight. Couldn't use the scancode nor the website to register them for the free yearly sharpening though.

I didn't realize how dull our old knives were. Very nice to have sharp knives. I bought a stone and sharpened knives a couple times but stopped doing it. Hopefully the built-in sharpener will keep them sharp. Only had them for a month, so I'm not sure if the sharpening feature is working yet.

The advertising on the Amazon page is a bit over done. It led me to believe these knives are better than they are. Do not get me wrong, this is a very good set for the price but, they are very thin knives. People who handle such items roughly need to rethink how they handle things when using these knives. When washing these knives it is very important to be very careful. They are very sharp and will cut the bristles on a washing brush with extreme ease. How you clean these knives is every bit as important as to handling them with great care so you do not cut yourself. These knives will cut human flesh as easily as they cut other things. So be warned. I have found that they help prepare meat as well as finely cut vegetables for salad with equal precision so one can cut food to a very precise thinness or thickness based on one's preference. My only complaint is the dark spots that appear on them over time. If I was an avid reviewer, I would be reviewing these only a month after use. However, these dark spots have occurred much latter than that. Close to a year or slightly more. This demonstrates that long use reviews are of value. The dark spots do not appear to be rust or rough places on the knives. I looks like some sort of corrosion on the metal portion of the knife nonetheless. It does not effect food taste nor does it appear to come off in any food. While maybe not a critical issue health-wise, it is an issue of concern for me. So, four stars is best rating.

2 YEAR UPDATE: summary: RUN FROM THESE KNIVES. Not because they're sharp or dangerous in any way. Knives suck and service sucks. I never got the replacement set from the factory and these are crap. Actually, you could probably get a literal piece of crap to hold a better edge with a little bit of work. Despite multiple waste-of-time calls to offshore call centers, unanswered emails, Facebook interactions, and Amazon seller messaging I have yet to speak to a single helpful person. The knives are all showing spots of rust/discoloration (no, they've never seen a dishwasher, and are hand washed and towel dried right after use). I'm pretty sure the "self-sharpening" inserts in the block are meant to meticulously grind off any actual cutting edge. I've recently had the non-serrated knives professionally reprofiled to 17 degrees a side (the only info the call center guy could find). It cut fine until the first time I reinserted it into the storage block. Now? Back to movie-prop sharp. Original review: I received knives with almost zero usable cutting edge. All the non-serrated blades were completely without an edge. Seriously, I'm not sure these could have been any less sharp without intentional effort. My serrated knives in the set each have such bad burrs that they're better used as tiny little horror movie props. I understand that these are not Bently-level high end knives, but c'mon. At least *pretend* to have a QC process. I've got Fisher Price playset knives with better grinds...I called the Zwilling cust svc number and they're purportedly sending me a replacement set. As an aside, the rep did not know what angle the factory sharpens its knives to. Will update when I get the replacements.

Having good knives can make a huge difference in your cooking experience. I have a Henckle brand set of steak knives that have been thoroughly used and still going strong after years of use and this set will be no different. Block itself is well built. The built in sharpener system is easy to use even for those who haven't used one before. The knives are lightweight but still feel good in the hand. Out of the box they all come in separate sheathes to protect the edges during shipping and a very fine edge on each. Cut smooth and effortlessly through everything we cut with it. Very happy again with Henckles.

These are fantastic and look great. Only negative I’ve seen it stains left on the knifes. Otherwise I highly recommend

These knives are not as heavy as I’d hoped they’d be. I bought a single knife from this brand before buying this set and I have loved the single knife, but this set is not the same quality as the knife I bought on its own. They are sharp and work well, but one of the steak knives came with a bent tip. Another knife, upon being dropped on the floor has a handle that cracked and came off around the metal screws. They have not held up well. I think in the future I will go with a different brand. I was very disappointed. Not a good value for the money.

Nope - I can't afford Zwillings forged knives but J. A. Henckels knives are always good value. The self sharpening block is a welcome feature. They feature good weight and are well-balanced. I like that the block is black and not a wood grain. Every knife style you'd need on a regular basis. Time will tell how good the self sharpening works as I have no experience with this. CON: the shears are on the smaller side but work well. The outer box had a rank manufactured smell to it but thankfully didn't transfer to the product.

Been using for several weeks now and am quite happy but be aware , not all the slots are self sharpening
