Botan, Calrose Rice, 5 lb

Needless to say, my family LOVES this rice (I buy it 20 pounds at a time, LOL). And I LOVE the ability to have it delivered right to my door, thanks to Amazon's Subscribe & Save program. The perfect sushi rice, Botan has a wonderful, chewy texture and is VERY comparable to Nishiki in both flavor and texture (perhaps Botan's just a tad starchier, but you can pre-rinse if that's an issue for you. I prefer to cook mine as-is). This is a medium grain rice (not long grain, as Americans are accustomed to) and cooks up beautifully in just 20 minutes in an automatic rice cooker. I use rice, water, a couple of dashes of Himalayan Salt, and a tablespoon of coconut oil (you can use unsalted butter instead, if you prefer). Highly recommended for its delicious flavor and ease of preparation. Great price via Subscribe & Save!

I have used this rice for years when making paella when I can't find my Bomba rice or when creating my favorite wok cuisines. It's an excellent rice and American grown.

this is the rice i've eaten since a child, with every dinner, every holiday; unless we were at a restaurant, we at this, and only this, brand of rice. my parents moved to NW Florida, where this isn't available. it shipped quickly, and my parents (my dad especially) is thrilled to enjoy this style of rice again...sticky like sushi rice, softer than jasmine rice, and goes with everything you'd use mashed potatoes for (Boton rice and gravy is the BEST!!!!). now i'm 31, partnered, and my partner hasn't eaten mashed potatoes in years, and makes rice before even figuring out what to make for dinner. just like i did, growing up. LOL 5 stars!!

Absolutely the best rice I have tasted. Sure, it's not the cheapest but the taste is superb. I finally broke down and bought a rice cooker since we eat so much rice. I have tried many different brands and types of brown rice, but Botan Calrose Rice beats them all on flavor and consistency. The cooked rice is ever so slightly sticky (which I like) and the flavor is without question the best you will find in white rice.

The Botan rice is always excellent, but this time there was no padding inside the box containing the rice bags. The box was either thrown or dropped, so without padding inside, the 10lb bag popped at the seam, spilling out maybe half the bag inside the box. Too much pressure on the seam. I was refunded for the 10lb portion of the order, so I'm not complaining. I still have the 5lb portion of the package. Put padding inside the box kids. Please. Thanks. I threw out the loose rice inside the box. Take no chances.

My Wife and I are not any sort of expert on rice ( texture, smell, etc) but what we do know is that this rice is ( so far) the best we have ever eaten . AND... since we purchased these for our emergency food stock, we like that they come in 5 pound bags so we can only use one small bag at a time while the others are frozen or sealed for long term storage.

My husband is from Japan and was so excited to find this product on line. With the covid we are not going out .We are glad to see a great quality product on line to order.The price was great too. Best Rice Ever !

I love this rice, tastes perfect! It is the best rice that I have had since I moved here. Very clean and uniformed grains with very high quality. It doesn’t as dry as the long grain, just perfect!!
