does it work with older small block chevy engines?

Not sure what you mean by "older"? If I understand your question, this tool is not designed to work on the engine in question. The 25090 Harmonic Balancer puller is designed to work on spoked balancers that do not have threaded holes. We would need specific year, make, model to better answer your question.

will it work on a 2004 chevy trailblazer?

I'm not certain about Chevy, but it worked great on my Ford Edge. It is a universal tool with different rods for different applications.

This was described as working well on an LS1. anyone know about an LSA, whether this will work?

I don't think so. Only works on specific ford and Chrysler and maybe some Chevrolet vehicles.
