pH too low for Crystal Shrimps
This soil makes the pH go around or under 6 which is not ideal for keeping Crystal Shrimps. I am switching to Fluval Stratum.

Great substrate for Shrimp Tanks
I have waited to post this review to see how my tank set up got on. I have had numerous aquariums for nearly 10 years and I have previously had shrimy tanks but this is the first time I have used speciality substrate. The aquarium had a Base substrate of Denerle Nutribase 6 in 1 and then covered in Denerle Shrimp King. It is quite a light subut rate so you need to be careful not to disturb it when adding water. My advice would be to use a small jug and slowly pour the water onto plastic or a plastic plate to ensure it doesn't disturb your careful aquascaping. Once I had added a third of the water, I then added the plants. The great thing about this substrate is that it lowers the PH of your water which is better for your plants and soft water shrimp. If you are looking to keep shrimp which like a higher PH water value then this is not the substrate for you. If you want to keep Bee or cherry shrimp then this is a great substrate. If this is your first time at keeping shrimp, I advise to start with one of the cherry shrimp and are a great beginner. I would also advise using RO water/tap water mix if you live in a hard water area. This will make the substrate keep its PH reducing properties for longer. As for the effect on plants, I am very impressed in the amount of growth and there health since the initial set up. Overall I am pleasantly pleased with the tanks progress and look forward to adding shrimp in the future.
