Will this fit a Kohler sink?

All kitchen sinks? Almost not true. I have an older cast iron sink. It is of a very thick casting. By the time I put it in place and attached the hold down nut, I only had a couple threads left to work with for the drain pipe nut to attach. I barely got by with that one. Other than that, it's perfect.

What is the outside diameter of the widest top part where it sits in the indented part of the sink? (Where the putty usually goes)

the top of the item is 4 1/2" to the widest part and should give you about a 1/16 th to play with to make sure it fits.Great item and I was very happy! JL

4 and 7/16 inches--this is widest dimension; I think that's what you're asking.

Fit exactly as expected. Was of better quality than what was originally installed in sink. Glad I purchased this item. The included basket seal perfectly. Catches food and other stuff for easy removal. Lives up to Moen name. Purchased from Amazon because of ease of delivery and didn’t have to wonder around the big box home improvement stores hoping to find it
