I recently picked up the Amazon Basics Classic Grid Notebook, and I have to say, it’s quickly become my go-to for everything from sketching out ideas to jotting down notes. The 5 x 8.25-inch size is perfect—compact enough to carry around but still gives you plenty of space to work with. The hardcover feels sturdy, and the black finish gives it a sleek, professional look that I really appreciate. What really stands out to me is the grid-ruled pages. As someone who likes to keep things neat and organized, the grid layout is perfect for both writing and drawing. The paper quality is surprisingly good—smooth, with just the right amount of thickness to prevent ink from bleeding through. With 240 pages, I’m confident this notebook will last me a good while. Overall, I’m impressed with the quality, especially for the price. Whether you’re a student, artist, or just someone who loves a good notebook, I highly recommend giving this one a try. As described. Good portability and very sturdy.

Good basic graphing notebook. Clear even grid with visible lines and sturdy paper. Plenty of pages with a cover strap and page keeper. Also has folder in back for storing receipts or records.

I really like Moleskines, and this a pretty good cheap alternative. The cover is good, the paper is good, and the elastic holds it closed, but the first day I used it, I went to move the sewn in bookmark, and it fell out. I didn't tug on it, I literally just tried to move it to front of the book where I was writing, and it fell out. I have already written in it and have no intention of returning it. I still feel like it is a great value, and I will try to update this review when I have used it more than a half dozen times, but I was a little disappointed by the bookmark. I would buy this again, even knowing about the bookmark, especially since they are now only $6, while I paid almost $10 for mine. That is less than half the price of the comparable Moleskine Notebook.

To begin with, this isn't a Moleskine notebook. Of course it's not going to hold up exactly the same way as something twice the price. Seriously!!!!!!? Those are some pretty unrealistic expectations, unless you happen to find a Moleskine on deep discount (which I have, multiple times). For what it is, at its regular price point, it is in my opinion pretty good (specifically, a 4.5). It has held up well so far, and the spine has not broken. (I actually have filled the back pocket and clipped stuff to the cover, and the cover and spine are still intact.) If this situation changes, my review will change accordingly. The paper used in this entire line is NOT fountain pen friendly, but I would be surprised to find such paper at this price. Further, actual graph paper, even bound, is USUALLY not fountain pen friendly, and this notebook is no exception. I have also found that regular markers, even the fine-tipped ends, bleed through, but pens of an approximate Flair density or thinner do not. (Flair pens in particular actually work quite well here. ) Overall, I found this notebook to be of better quality with better details than I have usually found at this price. It's better than it has to be (though NOT a Moleskine), and since I suspect THAT was the actual goal, I am rating this product accordingly. I have gotten the other notebooks too, to give them a try.

I've been using these for a work diary. The grid page rules make a variety of notes, tables, and sketches easy while not being so dark as to be obtrusive. The size makes it easy to slip into a pocket of my laptop bag, and easy to carry the previous volume just in case when starting a new volume. At this price, I have no qualms at all about using it daily, in increments of full 2 page spreads. That allows for journaling conventions such as always noting mileage driven in the upper left corner of the left page, today's date in the upper right corner, using the entire right had page for a time-stamped log, and leaving the balance of the left page for meeting notes, sketches, lists, and such. Unlike a pre-printed journal, I always have the freedom to use additional pages, but I always start a day on a clean spread. I haven't seen a need to also number the pages, but one certainly could do that as well. I've tried various electronic note taking solutions over the years, and I always return to simple paper and pencil. These simple black notebooks are rapidly becoming my favorite. The relatively high price of the famous brands has always put me off. These don't have that problem at their MSRP at all, and there are occasional sales that make them even more attractive. I carry my current notebook daily, moving it from laptop bag to car dashboard or door pocket. I expected to be removing the elastic loop, but to my surprise, it is a handy feature. It allows me to confidently toss the notebook into the car or bag without concern for it popping open. The elastic has outlasted the time it takes me to fill one, and I don't expect it to matter once the full books are sitting on a shelf. I have had to repair a few minor issues with the cover at the binding on a couple of notebooks. But I haven't been particularly careful handling them, either, so that doesn't seem out of line. A roll of bookbinding tape will repair many, many of these. I'm tempted to go tape the bindings of all of my full ones for a consistent appearance on my shelf. I've found that a white gel marker works well to label the cover and spine, with the white pigment showing very nicely against the black covers. Other solutions for labels are certainly possible. I just like the classic look of a well worn and hand marked library binding. The bottom line is that I expect to continue using these as long as Amazon continues to produce them.

I've typically shied away from using a bound book to take notes in. My notes seem so fleeting and temporary; putting them down in a book seemed entirely more permanent than anything I'd need. That being said, after years of switching between various pads of paper, digital notes (which have their place, don't misunderstand), index cards, post-it notes, dry-erase boards, etc., I think I've finally come around on the idea of taking notes in a book -- particularly one that manages to so deftly balance quality with affordability. There's nothing special about this book. It does not have a pen holder, or pockets for loose papers, or a calendar, or pre-printed page numbers, or anything else extraneous. There isn't even a "This Book Belongs To" title page of any sort. It's just a very well crafted book for writing. I prefer graphing paper for note-taking: it keeps my writing from wandering vertically and allows me to line up indents for headers or topic changes. If I need to sketch out an idea, it provides scale. When I need to scan through my previous notes, the cleanliness of my indentations afforded by the graphing paper make finding the needed information simple and frustration-free. The pages have a slight sepia coloration to them, which I very much enjoy - it is neither glaringly bright nor ickily cream. The graph lines are clearly distinguished but do not distract from your writing. The first graphing page of the book does seem to be somewhat married to the thicker stocked separator page, but skipping the first page also allows for a clean entrance into the book each time it's opened from the front cover (as opposed to using the bookmark to jump directly into one's current position). Otherwise, the pages can fold over flat when writing in the book without separating from the binding. The built-in bookmark keeps your place in the book, as you'd expect. The elastic band keeps the book closed when storing and transporting it. The corners of the non-binding side of the book are rounded just enough so that they won't catch on anything or cut into one's hand while resting it on the edges to write. I use the Sakura Pigma 50221 Micron pens to write in the book; they don't bleed through the pages or smear on my hand (or onto opposite pages when the book is closed). As I have not tried any other sort of pen, I cannot attribute the lack of bleed-through to the quality of the paper, or the quality of the pens; in any case, they go well together and I would recommend the user of one to consider the other. Other than the very small, discrete "AmazonBasics" imprint on the lower back cover, there's no labels or badges on the book at all. It's a very elegant design that does exactly what you're purchasing it to do. If, for archival purposes, the need arises for an external label, it is up to the owner to devise their own solution -- and I'm fine with that. The size of the book itself is perfect: large enough to record a reasonable amount of information on a page, but not uncomfortable or unwieldy to use in a moment's notice or on an unexpected surface. Its small footprint makes it easy to leave out on a desk without feeling as though valuable real estate is being consumed, which also ensures that it's quickly available for your writing needs. Overall, I strongly recommend this book.

These grid notebooks are available at a very decent price as compared to other bands. There is nothing spectacular about them but they tend to be useful in every occasion. Engineering people would find them more useful as it is easy to draw diagrams and scale figures through graph. Others also find it useful for note taking and journaling. It can also help in improving kernel of your writing. So it has multi purpose uses.
