Review: Really informative - I’m a new dad and 46 years old, yep 46 and about half way through the book when I have time to read that is. Anyhow I’ve learned a lot so far so felt the need to post a positive review. Because of this book I now understand why some people are the way they are lol. Good stuff. Review: A must read for new parents - I can’t say enough good things about this book. Recommend to any parent or anyone thinking of becoming a parent. I read it when my daughter was about 4 months old and I’m so glad I did. I feel more confident in my parenting choices and style. As new parents, friends and family throw their opinions at you all the time, most of which are not based on any science. This not only gives you the science but it tells you what to do and how. Easy read and great for sharing info with others.

Do Not Abuse
This book offers practical advise and helps explain the processes occurring during brain development. If you’re a fan of Stefan Molyneux‘s call in shows & peaceful parenting lessons contained within, this book will be a total confirmation.

One of the BEST books on parenting!!!!
The BEST book! If you read one parenting book - THIS IS THE ONE TO READ!! It is based on incredible neuroscience and beautifully describes what is happening inside babies brains and the huge impact parents have over the wiring. This book easily explains complex science, gives tons of beautiful practical examples that incorporate how the miraculous infant brain reads it's environment, and provides diagrams and pictures that pull it all together. It addresses all the common questions and struggles, birth-5. It's brilliant !!!!!!

Concise and accessible
This book was recommended by a social worker in our pediatrician's office. It is readily accessible for harried parents. The chapters are short and illustrated. One section makes a distinction between two types of tantrums that I found useful for our toddler: the emotional distress tantrum versus the little tyrant (or power struggle) tantrum. The advice is practical and to respond to these two in almost opposite ways. Genuine distress from a child's point of view needs comforting and reassurance; while the little tyrant tantrum is better ignored or met with indifference, even if difficult to do. There are similar little bits of advice based on brain studies throughout, e.g., on sleep, eating, bullies, etc.

Excellent information!
Lots of good information in here! Helps you understand how much of your baby's brain has developed at what ages, and how best to interact with the baby so they understand you. Recommended to us by an art therapist, a nurse, and a psychologist. Will definitely recommend to other new parents!

Not scientific, shallow format, and opinionated
Extremely superficial coverage of science. The author takes nuanced conclusions from scientific articles on extreme situations of neglect or abuse, and using these articles to explicitly tell parents that they're permanently damaging their children from innocuous instances of their children being upset for a few minutes. The format of the entire book is three paragraphs per two pages, and eagh 2-page section is unconnected from the previous section. This means there is barely any narrative that strings the reader along. Instead, there is a bunch of hand waving, accompanied by random pictures of kids, and one paragraph "case studies". This book is provides the same format and rigor that you would expect from a magazine. Some might appreciate that, but not those looking for a scientific book. Unlike other scientific books, it doesn't cover the research methods or discuss the relevant theories. This is the authors opinion in favor of attachment parenting, with cherry picked articles that don't support the extent of the authors conclusions. As a scientist, I'm shocked that this could carry this title. For those looking for a book aligned with scientific methods, I'd recommend works by Lise Elliott.

Super interesante
Si te gusta la ciencia ese libro te resultara muy curioso y a la vez explica muy bien el efecto que tienen nuestras acciones (o la falta de ellas) en los cuerpos de los niños.

Excellent book, every one written by Margot Sunderland are outstanding - practical but based on research
Excellent book, to me the only book worth having as it covers the brain development and gives really good practical advice based on good research. Its really important to learn about parenting, so we do it better than our parents did! For example, you cannot spoil a baby it must be 'tuned in' to and have its needs met quickly, so attachment and bonding take place. As the baby becomes toddler, it does needs structure, consistency and clear boundaries to help strengthen the attachment process. ( for example; a quieting down bed time routine bath, story bed at same time every night lets the toddler learn that night times are not play times! The author explains why the consistency of doing the same thing, having a routine is important with toddlers, as they are learning about life it that predictability helps keep them calm and feel safe, and allows them to know where they stand and the attachment relationship to be secure. As a Senior Lecturer in Nursing, I use her books very often with my students, as the psychology is very well researched and applied. This author also wrote a series to help children deal with feelings (how to help children with loss; cope with bullying; low self esteem; etc this series are not only excellent for parents but for teachers and social workers too. This series also include a child's story book to help explain the subject in an easy way

A must read for parents, parents to be, and anyone who looks after children
This book brings scientific credence to the instincts many mothers have felt about the primacy of bonding with their infants. How, in our hearts we know there is no more important work than ensuring that our babies receive emotional and physical security as much as possible in every moment of their infancy. I hope that the course of violence and cruelty of human race may be changed to compassion and cooperation by learning to nurture our children in the formative years of their childhood.
