Seagate (ST2000LX001) FireCuda 2TB Solid State Hybrid Drive Performance SSHD – 2.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s Flash Accelerated for Gaming PC Laptop

Effortless installation on original PS4 system. From start to finish it took me 20 minutes to open the PS4, swap the drive, reboot to a USB stick and reformat the system. Took about another 4-6hrs to download all my PS+ game content and saves and re-install disc-based games... but now I have my entire library of disc and DLC games on this system and still ~800GB to spare (!!!). Regarding performance: I've done some soft tests of the Firecuda's loading delays and it definitely delivers on repeat loadings... Thus far, I've tried it with: Last of Us: Remaster, Titanfall 2, Uncharted 4, God of War 3 Remastered, and Wolfenstiein 2. In all cases, I've seen ~15-25% loading time improvement on the second load of the games and ~30-60% improvement on subsequent loads. Definitely shows the benefit of having a "small" SSD cache sitting the I/O pipeline with the main 2GB platter. It also has to be said that this thing is something of a work of engineering art, in and of itself. The hard drive uses a completely new method of doing data "layering" in the drive platter... This allows Seagate to cram terabytes of data in a platter topology that used to only be able to support gigabytes of data. Holding this little sliver of drive in my had next to my ~4yearold Western Digital 2TB external backup drive is hilarious... The WD drive is easily 10x the size of this device and actually made up of two 1TB drives. Having a Playstation+ account is critical to backing up you game-save data to the cloud for post-installation recovery. Alternatively, you can get yourself a 256-512GB external USB drive (I used a 128GB USB flash stick) and backup your system to that. The PS4's "Settings" section has all the tools you need for doing that part. All, and all, can't be happier with this upgrade. It was $65 well spent (got mine during a flash deal with a 15% off coupon code).

If you own a ps4 this is a must. Iv had the original ps4 since they were released. It has been giving me issues running slow, glitching, straight up freezing at times. I have had to delete games off the drive plenty of times in the last few months mostly because after it fills 50% it runs like garbage. Took a hour to back my original HD up to a spare 400G I had lying around. The install couldn't be easier you don't have to do anything to this SSHD just pop the old one out pop this one in straight from the box. download the ps4 update from sony on a flash stick pop it in a usb port and 20 mins later the things running better than new! the restore took a hour but when it was done ooooh boy. boot speed is noticeably better, connections to online games "fortnite" are more stable and now I'm one of the first to load in maps waiting on my friends its awesome. I don't understand how its effecting online play so much but I wish I had upgraded 2 years ago now.

Update: I just hopped on here to buy another drive for an external backup on my PS4 and noticed some negative reviews about they're drives dying on them... there's always a few faulty products no matter what you buy. I have had mine since January now August and it's still working flawlessly. Like I said I'm another because unfortunately I have more games than 2Tb can hold lol! Seriously this his a fantastic drive. I'm certain it's the best on the market! Awesome hard drive. I put it in my PS4 and it is a lot faster than the original drive. I'm the first in the lobby on all multiplayer games and helps to get a leg up on the competition. The speed is really noticeable! Install times are faster and the drive runs much much quieter than the original which use to sound like a helicopter trying to take off at times! Being able to hold almost all my games on 1 drive is fantastic! Great product

I've took down 1 star because of something which is I'm not sure of is the back of the HDD which I dunno if this is how it should look like ( Bec. it feels like someone used it) but when I plugged it into my PC I found 0 hours on it which means it's new. Anyhow, for the SSHD itself, I've attached a benchmark comparing some HDDs with this one since benchmark it will show the speed of the HDD part of it only and please mind that the 500 GB & 1 TB seagate HDDs are slim 2.5 but the HGST one is 9.5mm. So as you see the HDD is not the fastest HDD in the world but I've used the 500 gb and the 1tb HDDs and I was literally suffering but after the 1st use of the FireCuda my laptop became way more responsive and faster, I've even noticed higher FPS while gamming and off course not to mention the SSD boost which makes windows 10 starts within almost 10 sec. ready for use.... I love it so mush and I'm very happy with this purchase that now I'm telling anyone, if you're buying and 2.5 HDD then it's 2TB fireCuda or you're missing out the great experience...Not to mention that if you try to purchase the BarraCuda you will find the difference is about 5-8 USD which is not mush at this point.

This drive has replaced an aging Seagate Momentus 1TB, that shipped with my HP Envy 17-3290nr (3D) laptop. The Seagate Momentus was showing signs of aging (Crystal Disk), so I figured it was best to replace it while I was still able. So now I have a faster SHDD and 2TB of storage vs the 1TB. The drive installed right into my drive cage and showed up immediately in Computer Management. The drive initialized and formatted quick and I was using the drive within minutes. I am extremely pleased with the drives performance thus far. Since the port was a SATA 2 port, I figured this type of drive was my best and fastest large drive option. My HP Envy is a three drive system (mSATA, SATA 3, SATA 2), with an mSATA drive and a Corsair drive installed in bays 1 and 2. So my system has now gained space and speed. A Great drive with a 5 YEAR warranty!

It's hard to come down hard on a hard drive that works hard enough to stop getting on the computer from being a hard thing to do.

Edit: Wanted to update my review, I'm changing this to a 1 star review. This is October now, I picked up the drive in March. I had kept meaning to buy a 2Tb external drive to backup my data and I forgot. I will take responsibility for that. I won't take responsibility for suffering seagates high failure rates yet again! I had stopped buying seagate in the past because their failure rate is sky high compared to other brands and my seagate drives always failed on me. Sure, warranty, yeah yeah, still a complete headache. I write this having spent 12 days downloading Black Ops 4, having played it for 2 days, starting a week long vacation tomorrow. What will I not be playing at all during this time? My PS4. I now have to go buy a new drive tomorrow (won't be a seagate) and start the suffering of downloading it again. I will have to put off downloading all my other games until a later date. We have slow internet here, a 54Gb update takes a long time. I've noticed for weeks now that games were lagging way worse than normal. When you have bad internet, it's hard to know what to blame! I guess I should have picked up the backup drive because sure enough it was this Seagate drive failing. I again blame seagate for their high failure rate and me being sucker to it yet again. No warranty for me on this one either, I threw that out the door trying to get the drive to at least boot once so I could copy at least BO4 onto another HDD. *End Edit* Stock PS4 harddrive is notorious for being garbage. Reading at SATAII speeds and overall just performing poorly. I was also starting to think mine was failing, but after 2 pass formatting and doing a HDD test it passed. Not bothering to run any further extensive tests. Giving it to a co-worker with a PS3. Anyway, this drive has solved my weird lags I get at times while playing games. Would show a perfect connection or playing offline campaign and would get these strange lags. All gone. Apart from that, I cannot say it feels any faster than the other drive. Can't say I notice game start times are faster, load times are shortened, etc. Wasn't much cheaper to go with the non SSHD version so don't feel I got ripped off, but if you are dead set concerned about the difference, I'd just get the other drive. PS4 makes backing up and restoring a breeze. Used an older 500GB USB2.0 HDD to copy my games/saves/settings and move them to the new HDD. Took about 3 hours each way to copy 380GB or so. Wasn't a big deal, but if you are in a rush, make sure you get a USB 3.0 HDD for doing the backup. Backup is under settings/system/backup PS4. Make a complete backup and let the fun begin! HDD Swap itself took 5 minutes. PS4 system install took 10 mins if that.

When I got the drive in the mail from Amazon, it didn't work. I installed in my PS4, and I couldn't even reliably read the USB stick with the System Update on it (yes, the stick was formatted FAT32, and yes it was the 900MB system file installed in PS4->UPDATE). When I could read the USB stick after many attempts, the drive initialization would sit at 99% for up to an hour before I got an error that the drive could not be initialized. During this process, the drive would periodically emit beeping sounds. After a few web searches on these symptoms, I admitted to myself: I'd received a bad drive. The reason why this review is 5 stars is because of Amazon's response. When I reported that there was a problem with the drive, within two days I had a new drive in my hands. When I installed this one in my PS4, the initialization procedure went smoothly. The USB stick (no different from before) was accessed immediately, and the drive initialization just took a couple of minutes. The new drive with its 64MB cache and 8GB flash is definitely "zippier" than the drive that came with the PS4, a 500MB HGST with 16MB cache. Given the performance of the working drive, and Amazon's swift replacement of the bad drive, I'm giving this a 5-star rating.

Compre este disco para almacenamiento de información en general, juegos y programas por el hecho de ser hibrido. No es tan rápido como un disco de estado sólido pero no tan lento como un mecánico. Esperaba un disco enorme como los mecánicos. Sin embargo es bastante pequeño para 2 TB y pude acomodarlo perfectamente en mi gabinete en la parte trasera de donde se monta la tarjeta madre, oculto de los demás componentes. Hasta ahora no ha dado problema y sin duda lo compraría nuevamente para una laptop.

I have been wanting to get it for a while now and It meets my expectations. Used it to expand my PS4 storage with many games on the horizon (Doom Eternal, RE 3, Marvel's Avengers, The Last Of Us Part II, Ghost of Tushima & Cyberpunk 2077) It's worth the storage expansion.

I used this as a secondary storage on my laptop and for the size (2TB) it is worth the value even though this is still a mechanical drive with a NAND memory cache which is what it uses to speed up 'reads & write'. Highly recommended for those looking for extra storage and is still overall faster than a purely mechanical drive. The drive will store in the NAND memory cache your most used files and naturally learns what you access frequently so that future access to these files is speed up because it stores this in the memory cache part of the drive. This isn't an SSD (Solid State Drive) but for performance it doesn't comes too far behind in speed (loading) when files are already loaded from the memory cache.
