ADT wouldn't tell me how to sync with my system; does anyone know where I can find instructions on how to do this?

Go to dsc website. You will need to have the installers code. He should have either given you the 4 digit code or changed it to your choice. On the keypad hit *8 code then 804 then follow the fob's instructions

Can anyone suggest how to prevent buttons from being pushed while the fob is in my pocket? I keep tripping the panic alarm by just sitting or leaning.

Happens to me all the time with my GMC truck remote. I just put a piece of clear scotch tape over the button and it stops accidental pushes. You'll still be able to push the button if you ever need to.

How long do the fobs last

Actually they last a long time but what does break is the plastic loop that holds the fob onto your keychain. The two that I've replaced have been because of a broken loop.

How to replace the battery?

I'm sure you can but I've never had to replace one yet.
