Wow! You know, I really wanted to provide a video of how well this Aspectek 20W Bug Zapper works, but seconds after plugging it in -- and I do mean seconds -- it killed its first fly. Within a minute, two more. It happened so fast that I couldn't even put my iPhone into video mode to capture it. So allow me to go back in time for a moment... I have had a huge fly problem in my home for quite some time. The problem is people and pets coming in and out of the house. The flies just flock into my home and they are all over the kitchen. I bought one of those battery-operated fly swatters, but using those require a lot of patience. You have wait for your prey to land on something and then hope that you can actually swat the fly before it flies off. When I felt "enough was enough" and that the problem was getting out of control, I poured over Amazon reviews for days looking for the perfect electronic bug zapper. This one from Aspectek seemed to have consistently great reviews. Upon taking it out of its packaging I noticed that it was extremely lightweight. It's also well packaged in the box with a nice amount of bubble wrap covering the unit to avoid damage. Additionally, the plug and bug tray are secured with locking tie wraps. You should have no concerns about your unit arriving damaged. The Bug Zapper comes with a small chain that latches on to side hooks. That was a nice bonus. I actually opted to hang this on an abandoned plant hanger in my dining area. Once unpacked, you simply insert the fly tray into the bottom of the unit and turn it on. It's that simple to have it set up within minutes of unpacking. Upon turning on the power, two black bulbs instantly light. As I mentioned earlier, it took mere seconds for me to see positive results. Loud crackles told me that it had captured its first fly. Indeed, there was a fly hopping around in the tray. It had lost one of its wings during the zapping process. It was going nowhere. Two more flies were instantly killed within a minute later and their dead carcasses were deposited into the tray. All I had to do was remove the tray and deposit the bodies into the trash. Yes, I have noticed that some flies do get stuck in the mesh. However, the mesh is electrified and the flies eventually are zapped dead. Yes, this does make a rather loud crackling noise, but it's not to the point where it's really going to make anyone jump. Really, there is more satisfaction to the sound than negativity. I understand from some reviews that bulb life is not optimal. There are very good instructions included on what kind of replacement bulb to buy and how to replace it. I suggest keeping those instructions in a safe place. One tip I can provide: unless you have a huge problem in your home, don't keep this running for hours on end. You can keep it running for 30 minutes a day and get rid of your fly problem. Remember: the flies come to IT. For automated homes, I suggest buying a WEMO plug. I just tell Amazon Alexa to "turn on bug zapper" and the unit automatically turns on. I also turn it off with a similar command. WEMO plugs also work with Siri. You know why this is so great? You can be sitting in your easy chair, be bothered by a fly or similar pest, and simply command your bug zapper to turn on without having to leave your seat. It's so wonderful knowing that your investment has paid off mere minutes after unwrapping. For this thing to work so quickly and effectively gives me immense satisfaction. This bug zapper not only works, but it does so tremendously well.

I've had this for 24 hrs, and it is AMAZING! For reasons that are unimportant to anyone but me, I had a million flies in my kitchen yesterday. This morning I have none. I almost returned this because one of the bulbs was flickering, but it settled in and is working fine, now. I think it is even capturing the tiny fruit flies, though I had almost rid myself of that population before buying this. It is completely quiet except when it zaps the flies, but I'm pretty sure that is unavoidable if it is working. I ordered the 20 w size and it is completely adequate for my living area. Might need a 2nd for my bedroom, but this one is easily movable. It is exactly the same voltage as the larger size, and voltage is what kills the flies. There are cheaper models available, but be sure to check the voltage. The lights only attract. Flies don't die immediately (though they don't recover and fly away) so I would not even consider anything with less voltage. Looks gross as it fills, but no odor. It comes with a chain for hanging and a protective grid to keep little fingers and curious noses away. (I bought the base model, not the one that specifically advertises a protective grid.) I rarely write such glowing reviews with absolutely nothing to complain about, but I am so delighted. NO FLIES! I don't even mind if the bulbs burn out in a month. I will mind if the entire unit fails, but it has a 1 year warranty. It is made in China, but an entire Chinese address is provided. Distributed from Canada with website, tel #, and e-mail address for support. The dead bug trap is a little tricky to get out, but I haven't read the owner's manual. There is probably an easier way to do it. (I was warned that this wouldn't work in daytime hours, but I keep it away from windows and only turn on lights when I need them and it works fine. Maybe if you have one of those bright and beautiful houses that I am so jealous of, it will work better in the evening.)

Works good. It does make loud pops when some bugs get caught in it. I've had it 2 seasons now and still going strong. If you are buying for mosquitoes you will be disappointed though as it does not attract them very much. Mosquitoes are not attracted to light the way some other insects; they are attracted to smell and body heat, so this light will not make any noticeable difference in how many mosquito bites you get. It does attract a mosquito look alike bug - the crane fly I think its called so some people might be fooled by seeing those being eliminated and thinking they are mosquitoes. As for other flying insects and bees it does get a lot of them. If you care about a bugs pain and suffering you might want to avoid this item as it does slowly electrocute and cook larger bugs so things like moths and bees do not go out quickly but sometimes last for a surprising long time before their spirit leaves. Just saying.

I rarely have any flying insects, but if I do, they usually die from our normal bug treatments. About 3 weeks ago we started getting fruit flies (bought fruit from a store I rarely shop at) and they weren't dying. Doesn't help that I have guinea pigs... they eat fresh veggies and hay, which I think the fruit flies were also feasting on and may have been laying eggs in/near the cage. I got one of the tennis racket looking zappers, but it required a lot of patience and accuracy. I thought I killed a lot, but after a week, there were still a lot left flying around. I was at my sister’s house last weekend and saw she had a similar product sitting on her counter. I knew she had one for at least a year so I asked if she always left it out. They said only when they get fruit flies. I knew I had to get one of these to help with my problem. When I received it, I placed it close to the guinea pig cage and left it on overnight. I was pleasantly surprised seeing all of the dead fruit flies in the tray the next morning! And I had almost the same amount after the second night. The pic shows the amount after the second night. I left it on during the day today and heard it zap 4 or 5 bugs, but definitely not as effective as overnight when there is less light. Regardless, there are noticeably less fruit flies; the least I've seen in the past 3 weeks. Hopefully they will all be gone after a few more nights. I do agree with others regarding the loudness. Surprisingly, it doesn't seem like the guinea pigs get bothered, however my Shih-Tzu and I do get startled from zapping. I figured I'd rather deal with that if it means getting rid of the darn fruit flies 😂. Highly recommend!

i was having a serious issue with fly's that seemed to show up out of nowhere, unable to locate a source I tried "vinegar" traps that the internet suggested, no help there, I ordered 2 lights, one for the basement one for the first floor. within several days the fly's were under control. the light traps worked very well. I am very pleased. Do not put where a child or pet might touch, Not too loud when it zapps flys, I use compressed air to clean out dead fly's.

My father in law bought us this exact bug zapper 4 years ago for the old farm house we lived in. He would always joke around that we must have dead things in our walls for the amount of flies we would get in the house every year. We are surrounded by farm fields and the farm house was anything but insect proof. We ran this zapper day and night everyday almost for 4 years until the lights finally needed to be replaced. We built a new house last year and this is our first summer in it. Well, the flies, Asian beetles, and all little flying bugs are still as bad as ever. We are also closer to the fields now and we are seeing more than just flies and Asian beetles. The worst is in the garage and then they come into the house from constant opening of the doors. So, I decided to purchase this unit again because of how much we liked our old one and the bonus was it came with replacement bulbs. So, we used those for our old unit and now we have 2 of these to run. We have one in the garage and one in the house for a couple of days to clean up anything that may be inside. Eventually we will run both in the garage. Just minutes after putting both units up they were zapping bugs. This morning when I went into the garage, there were less amount of flies and it was noticeable. Usually they start flying around when you walk out or you visibly see them sitting on stuff. There were still some around, but not anywhere near what it has been. The house unit also caught a bunch of flies, asian beetles, nats, and even a couple mosquitoes. The unit has an on/off switch so if you wanted to keep it plugged in all the time, but didn't want to use it constantly you can just use the switch. It comes with a chain that you can attach with a clip on the top to hang. I showed a picture of that. The light bulbs are extremely easy to replace. It took just a couple minutes to open our old one and swap them out. The unit is pretty bright, so when all lights are off, it lights up the room. The zapping part is pretty loud, so if that bothers you do not put it somewhere that you will hear it constantly. We could hear it every so often in our rooms when we went to bed, but we do have one inside with us. It didn't bother us, but one of our dogs wasn't crazy about the sound. The tray is easy to dump out. The one downside is the plug isn't very long. So, we made it work in the garage, but both times we have had it in the house, we had to use an extension cord in order to reach an outlet when we have it hanging up. The plug is attached to the top of the unit, maybe if it was attached to the bottom of the unit it would give more length to reach an outlet when hanging up. I wish I would have purchased this a month ago and been able to replace the bulbs in our old one and have 2 running. There would have definitely been less bugs in the house. Oh well, at least we can rid them now. We will use these each season now especially around harvest time because that is when we see a huge increase in insects.

I'd give it 10 stars if I could. One of my best purchases this year. I know many say they never review items, but I never do! But this one is a game changer. Within the first 24 hours over 50 small gnats/flies were gone. Each day i clean out the tray and put it back in, only to come back within another 24 hours and finding 20 or more at the bottom of the tray. Needless to say it is doing exactly what it needs to be doing. Every ZAP I hear brings a smile to my face. I believe it's nearly eradicated the issue within less then a week. Would recommend!

Not suitable for Indian villages

Works amazing! Since purchase with a couple days fly infested room is now empty and bug zapper is full Easy to clean Comes ready to turn on right out of box Comes with 2 spare lightbulbs Everyone says it is super loud. The zaps aren’t super quiet, but definetely not as loud as everyone makes it out Sometimes doesn’t kill big flies leaves them wingless in the bottom to crawl around for a few minutes but they end up dying in the zapper floor anyway Definetely recommend works great!

Totally useless device did not catch not 1 fly

It's been more than a month since I bought this. I love the sound of insects getting zapped in this thing! Before I turn it on, I empty the collection tray. The following day, I will count how many insects got zapped before emptying it again. It also doubles as a night light in our bedroom.
