Iโm really impressed with the 3 Network ZTE MF286D 4G+ Router
Iโm really impressed with the 3 Network ZTE MF286D 4G+ Router; itโs been a reliable and powerful solution for home internet. Setup was quick and simple, and it works seamlessly with any SIM card on the 3 Network. The two external antennas make a noticeable difference in signal strength and stability, especially in areas where reception can be a bit patchy. The router delivers fast, consistent 4G+ speeds, and my devices stay connected without drops even when streaming, gaming, or working from home. The web interface is easy to navigate, and I love that thereโs minimal fuss once itโs up and running. Compact, sleek, and dependable , this has been a great investment for anyone needing solid mobile broadband at home or on the go. Highly recommended!

A brilliant pice of equipment - works brilliantly
Received the router yesterday . Being old and not very techno , we didnโt really know what to do . We rang the number on the card that came with the device ( Eternalcomms ) and spoke to a lovely man named Steve . He talked us through steps to get the device sorted. Because we were still needing a bit more support, we were able to visit the offices of the company in Brookmams Park (30 mins away from where we live) and Steve finished the set up for us . It wasnโt a problem with the devise - it was a problem with our lack of tech knowledge . The product is now working fantastically and we cannot fault the amazing tech support we got . It was actually a very easy process !๐ฅน

Best 4G+ speeds available at this price point.
Though this router is an older model now, it is still great for the price to performance ratio. Easy to use, compatible with most UK sims right out of the box. Strong Wi-Fi signal through the use of the external antennae. Best 4G+ speeds available (Cat12) at this price point. The only downsides encountered so far are a persistent issue with a failed OTA firmware update, and the limited control features of the ZTELink companion app, most of the router fine-tuning still needs to be done from the admin panel through a web browser.

very unhappy. they should give you the option of 0 stars. because that is what i give this
This item was sold with a smarty card. so i duly joined smarty for my internet service. I started experiencing problems, buffering, dropping out, unable to access email, and apps on and off. contacted seller who after some dialogue informed that the service carrier must have blocks on and i should request removal, which i did, but problem persisted. after more dialogue i was told that the problem due to the fact that Smarty piggy back off the 3 network and that the router was only finding a signal on and off . i was sent a link and told to follow the instructions and the problem would be fixed. followed the instructions and continued to have the same problems. decided to try the sim card in another router, worked perfectly. went back to seller to inform that as i had previously indicated i believed the router was faulty and requested a replacement. seller came back saying that the service would only be as good as the service from the provider. i contacted amazon customer service who initially informed me that they would contact seller but in any event after 48 hours i should make A-Z claim. only to find on trying to make the said claim it was denied as the 90 day deadline had passed . i am left with a very poor internet service , having wasted hours contacting seller, amazon customer service and no way to remedy the problem. last word from Amazon was a suggestion that i should claim back through my bank. sounds to me like dereliction of duty

Excellent router ( good sim/mobile coverage required )
Using is a rural island location with poor cable connection and terrible broadband in house so was hopeful EE SIM card would improve things. I knew EE mobile coverage was good hence used that SIM card. I now have excellent WiFi using this router. Set up was easy although I was confused as was picking up local EE router from other people was thought it was mineโฆ..the username is on the router but isnโt anything to do with EE or router type so take care when looking for it ( was obvious eventually to me) instruction are good it was just me !!!!

Skip this if you like to fiddle. Robust if you don't.
First of all - the corded phone adaptor is flawless besides an annoying extra two seconds before it waits to dial. My mum, who is going deaf, says that the audio quality on a 20+ year old handset is flawless. She sounded very clear on my end too. If you're buying to replace a landline - just get it. That matters more than all the fluff below. There are all kinds of software problems that ZTE have worked very hard to stop you from ever fixing for yourself. The antenna configuration is utterly bizarre - only one of the ports is actually useful in the UK as far as I can tell* - even though it uses 4 antenna MIMO internally. The firmware update process does not work. The band lock system does not work - the modem will forget carrier aggregation after a few hours. Carrier aggregation !!slows down the uplink!! whether or not you have 'uplink carrier aggregation' enabled.** But the default state the modem falls in to is ultimately more useful for most purposes - download speeds that are merely good and an uplink that is great. Obviously this all varies immensely depending on what kind of cellular service you can actually get. If you're just getting a single, 20 MHz wide carrier (EE does these sometimes - three uses 15 MHz almost everywhere though) it will be very fast up and down. If you're aggregating say, 5+15, you'll only get the 5 MHz uplink speed. With my signal quality on band 28 - that's 10 Mbit/s. So I have to chose, because of a bug ZTE doesn't want me to fix, between speeds of Down/Up 140/10 and 75/25. The latter is the 'default' and it's generally more useful (a faster uplink improves the received video quality for other people on a zoom/facetime call, for instance). If pretty much all of that went over your head, you may well want to get one of these because the internal antennas get a nice strong signal in places it really shouldn't! Plus it does just work when you plug it in! *ever seen 2600 MHz B7/B38? Me neither. **In fact this option does nothing at all.

Worked straight out the box with no issues.
Purchased to replace a TP LINK Archer MR400. Smarty and other 3 based networks have really bad performance now as the Archer doesn't have VOIP. Anyway, back to the ZTE. I purchased the unlocked version so we can use other sims. It worked straight out the box with no setup. Mine came with a label on the front informing that the login IP is 192.168.32.1 which is indeed correct. Also the WLAN password is only the first 8 digits shown. If you're logging in via your mobile you don't have many options on the GUI. The PC login option allows you to do a lot more. We have a cell tower probably 200m away and I'm now enjoying 75meg and more download speeds and roughly the same upload. Very happy and would defiantly recommend. With 5G routers still expensive this is a great option. Update: 180923. Replaced the Smarty Sim for Talk Mobile (better deal), which on Vodaphone. Had to change the APN setting as the router thought it was Vodaphone PYG. Took a couple of mins to add a new APN profile. Now we have speeds of over 150meg. That's 3 times the speed using the same sim in the older TP MR400 Archer. I'm defiantly enjoying 4G+.

Solid performing router
Purchased this as I am going to give mobile broadband a go. Ordered the refurbished acceptable from Eternal Uk Grade C as it was a third cheaper. On arrival item was immaculate and marks on it probably happened during transit in the cardboard box and could be easily wiped off with a damp cloth. The set up instruction on Eternal's website are detailed with every uk mobile providers APN information provided. However I didn't need this as the router auto detected the three sim I was using and set itself up accordingly. In terms of performance with the same sim my phone (Moto G31 4G), could only achieve 40-50 Mbps in speed tests. The router dependant on time of day scores between 55-95 Mbps The ext. antenna's do increase the performance as testing without results in a 30% speed loss. This is based on around 350m no direct line of sight to the mast. The only negative I can cite, is that on powering up the router failed to update to the latest B14 firmware. Based on some searching I believe this is because the unlocked Nordic B12 firmware installed was created by a user on the ISPreview forums and is not fully official causing the newer update to fail on verification before install. This is not a problem for me, hence no change to the star ratings, but I have flagged it in case its an issue for others who might be about to purchase.

Product is not unlocked and fixed to Three network and appears to be second hand
We recieced this item but it is not unlocked, it appears to be second hand and it only works three network. It has the Three name and logo on the front of the unit. It does not have ZTE written anywhere. I can't seem to find anywhere on Amazon to contact the supplier about this unit. I had to get a Three sim card and it works with that but the reception with Three is terrible in our location even with an Arial. Very disappointing
