is this the same as a pumice stone?

Yes, it is a type of pumice stone. I originally tried a coarse pumice like used for ladies' feet, THAT didn't work. So I gave in and bought this. It works but only for specific types of coat, it is not efficient for all types of coat. I find it works adequately on that very soft fluffy little undercoat on hocks of certain dogs like Goldens, LH Dachshunds and Shelties. I like the Equigroomer much better than this.
