I'm very pleased with this. I feel like an idiot that I've been using a file on my lathe without a handle for years. Why I never thought about buying handle for it completely escapes me at this point. However, after watching a few videos on YouTube I was reminded I didn't have a handle on my vise, so I set out to find one. I landed on this and it worked out great. Rotate it to loosen up the clamps, inserted my file into it, and tightened it down. It was one of those moments when I went "duh!". I already used it when doing some machining and was awesome. Sometimes the simple things make all the difference, and this handle feels high quality, worked very well, and will make things just that much nicer when machining parts.

These handles are big, beefy, and intuitive to use on longer/larger files. Because these are mechanically tightened by hand to secure the file to the handle, files can be swapped out easily if need be. Avoids tapping, whacking, heating the file tang up with a torch and other common methods used to firmly attach a file handle to the tang of a file. They are a bright orange with black accents which makes them harder to lose. Yes, they do not have the look of an "heirloom" tool but they are durable, fit the hand well, and can be easily removed if desired. When properly tightened the files I used them on stayed put. The "fuss factor" is minimal and the desired result of mounting a handle to a file is accomplished. Take care to center your file tang in the jaws and make sure you tighten enough to eliminate any freeplay between the handle and the file. Easy peasy!

This is a useful handle that allows you to swap files at will. The mechanism is a little clunky to use but it can provide a solid grip on a file. You'll have to crank it a bit to really get the file in place, but once locked in, it is stable enough. Some files that have tapered tails won't be happy with this handle. It is not, however, nearly as nice as a proper hardwood handle that has been heat set on the file. This plastic handle just doesn't have the same feel.. you don't get a sense that you are connected with the file, but rather that you are holding an accessory. For most users this won't matter, but if you are doing fine furniture or luthierie, you will notice.

you heard that right, for about a year Ive been using these handles for what they were intended for, files but then it hit me why can't i use this handle for Reciprocating Saw Blades and when i moded the saw blades with my dremel i was blown away with the performance once i cut the blade for a longer tang for the handle to hold onto; the handle had a death grip on the metal, there was no wiggling or loosening what so ever and the performance was like a high end $70 silky saw but at a fraction of the cost if you're familiar with the "survival market" snake oil sales men; there are plenty of gimmick handle conversions for Reciprocating Saw Blades that will cost your $100-200!! all you need is this $10 solution and you can make blades that cut plastic, wood and metal! i already bought 10 of these for work and emergency survival and plan to buy more. you can even use a knife that doesn't have a handle or the knife broke off as long and you remake the tang the handle will grip it and its only 3.88 oz heavy so this saves me so much space and weight from using a large saw in my emergency bug out bag UPDATE the next day i went to home depot to see if i can make a cheap light vertical grip conversion. you can see in the picture i found a Husky junior hacksaw for $5 and with a dremel and drill; cut and shaped a vertical handle, the zip ties hold on to the rubber grip really well and it dramatically made cutting tasks easier i shaped it in a way that you can still unscrew the back and switch out blades without having to remove the zip ties Ive already tried cutting steel pipe with a steel saw blade and it worked fine no wrist fatigue using the vertical grip; and i finally have a vertical grip file holder! total with the vertical handle adjustment your looking a 6 oz weight super light for all this cutting power no need to waste time to make a bushcraft bow saw if your going camping or prep for survival

Was looking for another wood handle for a rat tail file of mine, saw this and decided to give it a try. Not only does it hold my rat tail file nice and tight and give a good grip.. I can also put a sawzall blade in this thing and use it as a keyhole saw on sheetrock or whatever else I need to cut by hand. I see no quality issues with this handle, the orange part is hard plastic and the black is more grippy plastic and the tightening handle is knurled metal. All of which feels good in my hand and feels like it's going to stay together just fine for along time.

Unfortunately Nicholson chose to completely re-design this product without providing vendors with updated product images (across ANY vendor outside of Home Depot, as far as I can tell) or even changing the model #. The re-designed version is clearly a cost saving measure and seems worse in every way. I reached out to numerous vendors themselves, and they had no idea the product had changed. Model numbers exist for a reason, something I suppose Nicholson chose to ignore so they could keep the high rating of an old product and carry it over to a piece of junk replacement product. Regarding the product, it's more difficult to tighten and release the files, the entire handle is much less comfortable to work with and due to the ergonomic changes just overall more difficult to get a good grip on, and the whole thing just feels less sturdy. One of the two I purchased is already damaged from having to use pliers to open the damn tightening mechanism, which seized after one use. Used the previous model for 10 years with no issues before it finally broke, which was fantastic value, and why I bought 2 as replacements. Really a bummer that they chose to sacrifice quality rather than just raise the price a couple bucks. This new version isn't worth half the price they're charging now, and if I found a vendor that still sold the original design I would gladly pay double the price. I was going to return these but ended up having no alternative handles so begrudgingly kept them. I don't even know a good alternative product to get, there's a reason I stuck with what I had for 10 years, it was just a great product. I'm unlikely to purchase any other products from Nicholson going forward as the same model number bit is a literal bait and switch and I'm having a really hard time believing this was a harmless oversight. Not informing any of your vendors that you completely redesigned the entire product and making the vendors think they are still selling the same high quality product is just a real scummy move. Companies like you can do better, shame on you.

Space caver in a tool box and super helpful tool to have always with you. Nice quality, in use almost daily. As a millwright on the roads, I need universal tools, this one is a perfect example. I've been using it for more than a year, still looks and works as a new one. Love it.
