If this is just a simple single pole switch, why is there a maximum specified length of 16 feet of cable? Is this input susceptible to noise?

Welcome to TOPENS. TC147 Wired Push Button uses 2 x 22 AWG wire. Usually the extension wire does not exceed 5 meters (16 feet), well-shielded wire can reach 50 meters (164 feet). There was once a customer saying that he used a 100 meter wire (328 feet), but generally we do not recommend our customers to connect that far, as it is easy to have interference. Where does it plug into the circuit board? Meaning, what are those spota labeled?

What os the maximum distsnce it can be installed away from the gate ?

Welcome to TOPENS! Generally, the distance between the TC147 push button and the control board of the gate opener should be within 16.4 feet (5m). If you use the good shielded wire, the distance can be 164 feet (50m).

Why is there not an outdoor version of this?  It's wired, and the gate is going to be outdoors...

And the TC147 wired push button should be mounted in a waterproof box when being installed outside. Plastic or metal is OK.
