Roy Orbison - 16 Biggest Hits

Good product, quick delivery!

We don't hear his music played on the Oldie radio stations anymore. Was happy to find this CD. Excellent quality.

This is a great CD for any Orbison fan as it covers some of his basic hits. The sound is absolutely gorgeous on this CD. The tracks are extremely bold and crisp. As a bonus, the CD offer's the rarely used 20-bit HDCD encoding, which sheds more light on the complexity of some of these arraignments, not to mention it brings out the unique, pop-out and passionate vocals by Orbison with great clarity. With very few exceptions of the late 80's and early 90's, the audio restorations of the late 90's started to demonstrate the full potential of digital remastering of analog recordings, this album is a very good example of that. INTERESTING NOTE: On this collection, the version of "Oh, Pretty Woman" used is the mono single mix with added reverb. This version appears to have a momentary alternate lyric insert at 1:42 which differs from the stereo mix... or perhaps it's the stereo version that has the insert, I don't know, it's a very good edit. All of the other tracks are in true stereo. .

Sonically speaking, this (1999) release is by far the best of the various Roy Orbison compilation albums, containing (as the title states) his "16 Biggest Hits." HDCD encoded when remastered (even if your CD player does not specifically decode them, see my review of Dave Brubeck's 1997 CD release of "Time Out" elsewhere to read of the many benefits of that process), the quality of the sound is phenomenal, especially considering the songs were originally recorded in the early '60s. You'll find yourself singing along with each of the songs, just like you may have done when you first heard them. If you're a fan, or even if you're just a 'lukewarm' Roy Orbison listener, this release is the one for you!

Roy Orbison is an old favourite from years ago. I remembered his songs when I heard one of them on a TV commercial. When I realized I didn't have a single CD of his, I had to order a couple of Roy Orbison CDs. The songs on this CD are all old favourites and I'm so glad I purchased this CD. Sound is good. It was reproduced from vinyl well enough to be considered good quality, in my opinion. I received the CDs early than the scheduled date and packaged very carefully and safely to keep from chipping, cracking or breaking. Thanks for helping me renew old memories!!!
