Innova 5568 Pro Digital Timing Light Tool with Digital Advance, LED Display, Ignition Timing for 2 and 4 Cycle Engines, Automotive Diagnostic Tool for Cars and Trucks

I previously had the Innova 3555 timing light and I have to say I was less than impressed with that particular model. It seemed prone to inaccurate induction readings and fluctuations at random times; it got to the point where I just couldn't trust it and actually had to use an older timing light from the 1970's to confirm its readings and/or errors. After doing some research and checking reviews here on Amazon, I decided to give Innova's 5568 Pro model a shot. All I can say is "Wow, I'm impressed". This digital model is super easy to use. The directions are a bit lacking and confusing, but once you fire it up, it's very intuitive and easy to use. I was pleasantly surprised by how understandable the functions were once I started using it on the motor. Induction works 100% right out of the gate; no problems whatsoever. The digital timing advance/retard function worked really nicely also; you can push the arrows and watch the timing mark move forward or back 1 degree at a time. Very steady readings. I also appreciate that you can read the RPM's directly from the unit. This saves me from having to attach other diagnostic equipment. It's also nice to be able to turn off the flashing light when it's not needed. All in all, really impressed. Very nice timing light and seems to be very accurate and well designed/made. If you are considering between this model and the lower priced models, all I can say is the extra money gets you into a whole different ball park of quality. I wish I had gone with this model straightaway.

I just received this timing light . Seems to work well. I use it to tune the stock points based ignition on my 1960s automobiles. Nice unit with Timing Light, Variable Timing Delay, Tach, Dwell and Voltmeter etc. Comfortable to hold. No trigger like other timing guns but an on-off button. The button is in a natural position and the light flashing stays on (without having to hold a trigger) until you push the button again. Nice feature is concurrent display of timing light delay with rpm so you can check base timing, mechanical advance and vacuum advance vs rpm. Timing flashes seemed consistant and steady. Also has concurrent display of system battery voltage vs rpm to check charging voltage vs rpm. Includes a dwell meter so you do not have to connect a seperate piece of equipment to check the point setting. The unit has a detachable cable that includes Inductive Pickup, Coil Connection and +- battery connections. The clips are a good size to make connections to battery and coil. The inductive pickup has a plastic cover so need to be careful with hot exhaust. I recommend hooking the unit up exactly as the manufacturer specifies in the manual. The only manual that came with the unit is a quick start quide. A more complete manual is available on the Innova website. I will have to see how this unit holds up over time. Hopefully it will be reliable and last a long time. I have had my old timing light for 30+ years and it still works - but does not have the variable delay feature like this one. Note that I ordered the 5568 but the unit i received is marked 5568a so these comments apply to this version. I recommend this unit for anyone with points based ignition.

Light is well packaged. The fact that it is adjustable makes it easy to get into hard to reach spots. Makes a setting timing advance very easy.

Good quality, a must have

this is a nice timing light. i used this to verify the initial timing and degrees of advance on my motorcycle. it allows me to be absolutely certain that the programmable ignition system i use on the bike is giving the right ignition timing at the mapped rpm. the backlit lcd readout is very nice. it even displays battery voltage so you could use this to troubleshoot battery/alternator problems if you didn't have a voltmeter available. the dwell function would be really useful for the old school folks who still like adjusting contact breaker points. of course, for me the most useful feature is the timing advance function. this thing just destroys any old dial type advance timing light. if you set the timing light for 10 degrees, and your ignition timing is set for 10 degrees, and your timing pointer marks are in the right spot, then this thing is dead on. it is extremely consistent, completely the opposite of my crummy sears craftsman dial type advance timing light. if you're in the market for a timing light with timing advance features, don't waste your money on a cheaper dial type timing light. you'll regret it. save your lunch money for another week and get this one instead because it works right and doesn't cost that much more.

I'm very disappointed with Innova. This is the second one of the 5568 models that failed to function properly on the first try. I even blamed the plug wires and purchased a new set of flame Thrower 8mm wires. Upped my coil voltage to run 12v rather than on the resistance wire, still no RPM and a flash every now and then on the strobe. Hooked up my 25 year old light to check the timing. Prior to this Pro model I went through 2 of the lesser models with the same issue. I really was looking forward to a dial back timing light that also displayed rpm. Tech support is non existent, phone rings but nobody is home.
