Permatex 80037 valve grinding compound works great for engine valve lapping โ๏ธ
I used this 3 oz white Permatex 80037 valve grinding compound during my small engine rebuild. Itโs perfect for hand lapping valves to clean up minor surface flaws, carbon buildup and light corrosion on valve seats. The abrasive paste spreads easily and maintains consistent grit while grinding. After lapping, I got clean, even sealing marks around every valve face. It works on automotive, motorcycle and marine engines, and even handles chromium components. The tube seals well so the compound wonโt dry out quickly between repair jobs. A small amount goes a long way; this tube is enough for multiple engine rebuilds. Way better than generic off-brand lapping paste. If you do your own valve work, this trusted Permatex grinding compound is a must-have in your shop. Highly recommend

This small tub helped rescue my old motorcycle valves
These days Iโm trying to stretch the life of my old Yamaha instead of replacing it, so I grabbed this valve grinding compound for a top-end refresh. Texture feels gritty but controlled, and it cuts nicely without chewing things up. I could feel the valves seating better as I worked, which was oddly satisfying ๐ . Tube size is fine for a home garage, but I do wish the lid sealed tighter. I have a messy workbench in my home studio and it loves to pick up dust. I also found it a bit annoying to clean completely off the parts, so keep some extra rags and cleaner nearby. For the price though, Iโm glad I used this instead of paying a shop.

Handy compound for our gym workshop
. I grabbed it to freshen up an old air compressor valve that powers our lifting platform cleaners. I smear a thin ring on the valve seat, spin it with a simple suction tool, wipe, then check the seal. Took me about twenty minutes and the compressor stopped leaking and cycling nonstop. That alone made me glad I bought it. The tube is small but it goes a long way because you only need a dab each time. Texture is gritty but spreads smooth. Cap screws on tight so it has not dried out in the cabinet.

Makes engine work smoother again
Many weekends Iโm juggling house stuff and car stuff, so I grabbed this for my old Civic while my roommateโs brother helped with valves in the dorm lot. The paste is thick and gritty. It cuts fast. We got clean contact patterns with just a cheap suction stick. My favorite part was seeing the idle smooth out on the drive home. Tube feels small and annoying once your hands get oily, and the cap seal worries me because I donโt wrench every weekend, but for a quick driveway tune-up at 34 with a Monday office shift waiting, it works well enough.

Good for small engine tinkering
Grinding compound like this is pretty niche, but it fits my little home studio setup. I do design work in the front room and fix neighborsโ lawn equipment in the back to clear my head. I grabbed this tube to touch up the valves on an old Honda mower Iโm rebuilding between logo projects. The grit feels consistent, and it cuts fast enough that Iโm not stuck in the garage all night. I just dab a small amount on the valve face, spin it with a suction cup tool, then clean everything with brake cleaner. After a couple of rounds I saw a clean, even contact ring. Hearing that mower finally fire up after weeks of stalling made me really glad I bought this.

handy little tub for freshening up my old mower valves
I bought this to lap the valves on an older mower that had been sitting in the shed, and the small tub was plenty for the job. After a night shift, I set up in the garage and worked through the valves a little at a time. I could feel the compound doing its job as I worked, which helped me know when to make another pass. I was glad to have it on hand instead of putting off the mower repair again. Itโs a simple shop item, but it helped me finish a task Iโd been avoiding. The mower started up when I tested it, which made that tired evening feel pretty satisfying.
