Albert's Chocolate Ice Cubes 100 Count Tray

I love these chocolates from my teens! I use to get them at a gas station near my house. Brings back great memories!

I ordered a large box of these in 2014 and they were just perfect; my absolute favorite chocolate ever - unique and unchanged since the first time I tried one in 1973. Smooth, creamy milk chocolate with just a hint of hazelnut, never bitter, melt in your mouth, chocolate perfection. Sadly, these aren't anything like those. I had recently mentioned to a friend that I was going to order several boxes to share with my family soon and raved a bit to her about how much I loved them. A few days later she brought me a little package of 10 from a box she had ordered on my recommendation. So, of course, I thanked her very kindly and popped one in my mouth on the spot. What in the world happened to these?!? They are not smooth, not creamy, and not milk chocolate. The only thing they have in common with the old Ice Cubes is that they seem to melt at about the same temperature... but really, who cares? I like dark chocolate, I just prefer milk chocolate; but the flavor of these isn't all that good for dark chocolate or any other kind, the texture is gritty and they leave an oily aftertaste. Whoever is responsible for this should apologize to the world and retire from chocolate making. Just as an afterthought. This isn't the first time a dark chocolate variety of Ice Cubes has been released in a gold wrapper. The first time was in the mid-1980's, or at least that's when I first saw them. But they were very good then, just a dark chocolate version of regular Ice Cubes. I'm not saying these are some of those that have been in some warehouse for 30 years, but it might explain the flavor and texture.

The 100 count tray of Ice Cube Chocolates arrived on schedule and in perfect condition. 1 day delivery was a plus too.

Great chocolate but needs to be in cool place like refrigerator. Gets too soft in a/c house.

I loved these as a kid in the '60's. I think they were the regular milk chocolate flavor, not this hazelnut variety, which I would have preferred, but this seems to be all that's made these days, so I'll take it. I actually have a couple of "vintage" candy stores near me, and I have repeatedly asked them to get them in stock, but they never came through. Then just recently, one of them called me and said they had a box of 100 pcs, like I asked for, and they would give me a reduced price of.....get this....$60! That was supposedly 20% off. $72 for this box, and here on Amazon I paid $23.84. That is NUTS. So I couldn't resist. I think this would make a nice little gift for New Years (sweet new year) and without spending too much. I think people would be surprised and would either remember them fondly or be introduced to a "new" taste sensation. After eating one, I decided that the texture reminds me of chocolate frosting. I don't like chocolate frosting. However, the cool mouth-feel and the happy memories of buying candy on the way home from school make it seem more delicious than it probably is.
