Saturday Trail Pant VS other styles including capris (Just Right) and Aruba
I purchased the Just Right capri, the Aruba capri and the Saturday Trail Capri in identical sizes. I also order the Saturday Trail pant and Anytime Outdoor boot cut pant. There is quite a bit of difference in fit. With this garment I see in the listing that it talks about how the different styles are cut. That should be in ALL the listings and not just in some of them. It should also be clearly stated how the particular garment you are looking at falls in that chart. The Just Right capri is much looser in the waist and leg when compared to the Saturday Trail knee pant. They are not baggy, just not as close to the skin. Definitely a more relaxed feel. They are also a few inches longer. The Saturday Trail comes midway across my knee cap, the Just Right capri come a good 2-4 inches below my knee. I like both and will keep both, however the Saturday Trail is a bit tight at the waist and as there is no give in the waistband or the ability to custom size by having snaps in several locations along the waist band, I had better not gain any weight! They have a more athletic look to them. The Saturday Trail line of knee pants and longs pants can NOT be "dressed up" as it really looks athletic with a fit very close to the body. The Saturday Trail knee pant has an adjustable stretchy elastic through the bottom which you can slide to make it completely closed against the leg or leave open/relaxed where you then have in my case at least a couple inches or so loose. As that piece (which I can't for the life of me remember the name of it right now) is outside the hem, it is visible when worn and gives a very casual sporty look to the Saturday trail capri. I had ordered the Aruba pant that could be rolled up to a capri length that was said to run small so order one size larger. It did fit around the waist but was so baggy around the butt and particularly around my legs that it looked terrible. Only if overall the cut is a size too small or size to big can going up/down work for you. When it is just the waist which is small and the remainder is cut a size too big it makes for a terrible fit. If you are built with larger hips and legs and a small waist I recommend the Aruba otherwise the fit just won't work for you. The other issue with the Aruba is it had only an exterior button to hold the cuff in place so the inside of the leg kept coming unrolled (especially since it was already too large in the leg). So if you are looking for pants that turn into capris I would recommend the Saturday Trail Pant. Yes it runs slimmer just as the knee pants do, but when rolled up it fits closer to your leg and has buttons on both the inseam and outside seam to hold the cuff in place. I really appreciate the versatility that having the capacity to wear as either a long pant or a capri that the Saturday Trail pant provides. When cuffed it looks like it was intended to be that way as opposed to looking like you just rolled up a pair of long pants! I had also ordered the Just Right long pant in a boot cut. I loved the fit, not as tight as the Saturday Trail around the waist and not as close to the body over all. But a boot cut without wearing a boot just looks a bit silly! I tried them on with sandals and from the side they looked great but from the front and back they looked "bell" shaped on the bottom as a result of the boot cut which is really not flattering on most women. If I end up wearing these in the fall and winter, I can see going back and getting one with a boot cut as I have so man pairs of boots. Unlike the Saturday Trail, the Just Right long pant doesn't really work well as a rolled up capri so you loose that bit of versatility. The first two pairs of Columbia pants I purchased were at Marshalls and I paid no attention to the name of them. When I went to get more I had to order one of most styles to find the pant which came closer to the ones I purchased last year which must have been discontinued. (If you know how to find the style number/name from interior tags let me know please!) While I have not tired other companies versions of the Columbia bottoms, I tend to be brand loyal when I find one which is so well made, which washes well, fits well and will last for more than one season. I can't compare to the Eddie Bauer for example because the Columbia ones while more expensive had performed so well that I had no interest in trying them. I would be interested in reviews which compare other manufacturers pants for future reference but for now I am sticking with Columbia, they are simply that good. HOPE THIS HELPS! And to all the buyers who leave detailed reviews THANK YOU. I always look at the customer reviews on Amazon because they are generally so well done

I could LIVE in these pants!!!
I am so in love with the Columbia Saturday Trail line of pants! I previously purchased the convertible and insulated versions and LOVED them. Although I just received these pants today and have not had a chance to test them out beyond trying them on and wearing them around the house for a while, they are made of the same material and are stitched the same way as the convertible pants, and I would say I'm a qualified expert on how this fabric performs! I go on long walks/hikes at least 4 days a week, and go on weekend camping trips several times s year and I literally wore the convertible pants on every walk/hike and camping trip I took from May through mid November (including a 27 mile hike 1-day hike in October!) I wore them in every conceivable spring-fall weather condition (except snow), in temperatures from the low 40s to low 100s, and was ALWAYS comfortable in those pants! They keep out chilly wind, yet are breathable. You can walk through a section of shady trail out into the blazing sun and feel equally comfortable. The Saturday Trail pants are extremely durable. They protect your legs from the sun, dirt, mud, bugs and brush but are light as a feather. I wore them among sandburs, thorny rose bushes, scrub, rocks, and barbed wire and didn't get so much as a snag in them! I crawled around in the woods and kneel a lot on paved sidewalks while taking care of my dog, and have no wear on the knees of these pants. They seriously feel weightless, on your body as well as in your luggage/backpack, and can easily be packed down into a teeny tiny space. These are the best pants I can imagine for travel! No matter what you put them through, these pants look great! They are wrinkle resistant, dirt brushes right off, and stains easily rinse out-even with a just a fast food napkin and a melted ice cube...yeah...that happened...more than once. I was able to wear them for more times in a row than I will publicly admit, and whenever I finally did decide to wash them, it was just because I felt obligated to for the sake of decency, not because the pants actually looked, felt, or smelled dirty. And they dry quickly! You can wash them in the sink with a teeny bit of whatever soap is available, wring them out by hand and hang them to dry overnight and you will have dry pants in the morning. You can have an entire 32 oz water bottle spill on your car seat while you are driving on the interstate and, after sitting in the puddle for 15 minutes until you've basically absorbed all 32 oz, get out of your car and walk in the sun for 20 minutes and have a dry bottom again... yeah...that happened too. You can get caught in a light rain for short periods of time and stay completely dry! (Note: These are water resistant, not water proof. the fabric repels water, but if exposed to high volumes quickly or light amounts over a long period of time, they will eventually become saturated.) They have just enough stretch and are smartly designed so that you have complete range of motion and comfort. I ran, walked, biked, climbed, sat on chairs and on the ground, squatted, jumped, crawled, knelt, did Pilates, rode in the car, and laid on the couch like a bum in these and was always comfortable and never restricted. And besides all this? These are probably the most flattering pants I've ever owned- that goes for ALL pants- including jeans and dress pants. The fabric drapes nicely and doesn't cling- no wedgies or pantylines! The cut is very flattering- it's difficult for me to find a flattering cut. The design isn't overtly "athletic”- you can wear them off the trail and not look like you are wearing "sportswear." The fabric isn't shiny or "plasticy" and there's not a lot of sporty stitching or zippers. These pants can convert into capris, and do have little straps to hold the rolled pantlegs up, but if you are not using this feature, you'd never know it's there. The straps are on the inside of the pant leg, and the button that connects the straps to the outside of the pants is ingeniously hidden under a little hidden flap. The pockets also are discrete. In fact, if it weren't for the small Columbia logo printed on the back near the waist, The Saturday Trail pants would fit my office's business casual dress code. I am 5'6, 125-130 lbs with an hour glass figure and average- bordering on short legs and wear a size 8 average in jeans. I like my pants to be slim fitting but not tight, and a tiny bit long, so I sized up to a size 10 regular. I love the way they fit! They are a teeny bit loose at the waist and I usually wear a belt, but I can wear them without a belt without them sagging too low. They fit slim (but not tight) around my thighs and loose (but not super baggy) at the knees and calves. When wearing shoes, the hems cover the opening of the shoe, and allow you to sit without the "calf gap), but the hems do not brush the ground. If you want them to fit as described by the product description, order true to size. I ordered the India Ink color- I judging from the name of the color and the picture, I expected a sort of muted down navy blue, but instead it's a slate grey color with a blue tinge. I love the color and it matches EVERYTHING! The only drawback to the color is that it does show light colored dirt. My pants arrived out of the package with some white "warehouse dust" on them, and it was very obvious. (It did brush off easily, though! My other 2 pairs are in the Grill color, which is light grey with a greenish brown tinge, and they don't show the dirt nearly as badly.

Good for the price, be careful if you spray with Deet, it stains.
I bought these pants to hike in southern Africa. First, what I like: These pants come in an amazing range of colors, sizes and lengths, you are bound to find one that fits (thanks Amazon!). I'm 5'2" 115 and was between sizes according to the size chart, which I think is accurate (thanks Columbia!). I opted for the size 4 short, and got them for a little less than 1/2 of the suggested retail cost for the grey color. (the only ones in my size that were not the retail price) but they have since gone back to full price. I am sort of an athletic pear shaped and I carry most of my weight in my butt and thighs (I have a flat stomach) When they came, I tried them on and found the snaps to be just about 1/2 inch too far apart in the waste, but I think the 6 shorts would have been way too big. When I snap them, they are snug but not uncomfortable and otherwise they fit well and look nice. They actually look nice enough to wear around town, though for me they are about 1 inch too long, even if I am wearing hiking boots. They are super light weigh and very stretchy and the gusset in the in seem makes them fall very nicely- they don't look too tight on, and provide great amount of movement when you hike- they are really comfortable pants and for longer back backing trips, I think will be great as they weigh almost noting but are still sturdy. I wore them for a hike yesterday. It was hot- about 90 degrees with some humidity and the pants were a bit on the warm side. The fabric is more polyester feeling than cotton feeling. I think they would do better if the temp would be between 70 and 85, any colder and they wont do much to keep you warm, any warmer and they are going to be a bit hot. Because where we went was full of ticks, I sprayed myself down with 40% deet. That worked to keep the ticks off, but when I washed the pants in cold water this morning, I could see where the deet had been sprayed. I am going to try and wash them again in warm water and see if I can get rid of those stains, as they look pretty bad. they will be fine for hiking, but I don't think I can wear them around town with the stains. Overall 4 stars for being comfortable, wearing well, being cost effective, coming in a range of sizes and colors, and being a good fit. Minus one star for being a bit hot and staining with a product I know many of you will want to use as well. Happy hiking! UPDATE: I washed the pants again and was able to get the deet stains out. Adding 12 a star for a total of 4.5. Think I will order another pair in a different color. They make great travel pants!

incredible pants!
I love, love, love these pants! I usually don't wear such sporty styles but needed something for my vacation where I was going to do A LOT of hiking. When these came, I was extremely happy to see no gaping around my waist. My measurements are 26/38, and I always have to deal with either waist band too lose or hips too tight. The pant fits almost perfectly over my curves! I tried 4p and 6p and could use both. 6p looked more relaxed in the hips while 4p had zero gap in the waist. There is a gusset in crotch so no seam in the way. I noticed that the gusset looked more natural with pants less stretched over hips. It folded and created some bulk with smaller size. That made me choose 6p. I took these pants and two pairs of capris (same brand, same style as the pants) with me on vacation and found myself never wanting to take the pants off. OMG, they are SO comfortable! They got very dirty in the canyons and I hand washed them in a hotel sink - yes, I wanted to wear them that much! The fabric is very soft and stretchy. The side pockets are sewn to the main fabric and therefore don't bunch up. I wish they did the same with the knee pocket. The zippered knee pocket is very useful for little things that you don't want to lose and don't want to bother you. I kept my hotel room key there. There are two backside pockets as well. I wore silk long underwear under the pants in mid 30s temp and was not cold. I wore the pants alone in 70s and was not hot - they actually created that breeze feeling around my legs, so I didn't even want to wear my capri (and didn't bother to convert these either). Oh, and the convertible function is so discreet - you would never notice. That adds to the stylish casual look - pants don't look sporty. Did I mention the awesome flattering fit? Also, the fabric is very thin but not cheap thin. It's great! And it gets softer after washing. Oh, I forgot to tell you - stains come right off! Can't say I like the picture here. It does show the true fit through legs but I feel like the rise is not as low as shown. Also, the picture has somewhat masculine feel. I didn't notice that in person. The fit is incredible and very feminine and flattering. The pant is very skillfully tailored actually. I fell in love with these pants and ordered another pair as soon as I returned (in different color).

A WOW pair of Trail Pants, Perfect
I was hesitant to buy these trail pants but after reading the reviews, I took the plunge and so happy that I did:-) I have these amazing pants on right now and the fit is perfect. I ordered the 6 L and yes, a bit long, but easy to hem. I am 5'8" 135, a rower and runner, so my legs are muscular. The fabric, the fit, the style all winners. I like them so much that I ordered another pair to take to Namibia next month. They are lightweight, have some stretch and downright comfortable for all indoor and outdoor activities. One cannot go wrong with these Columbia pants. I am updating my review after spending 17 in Namibia and wearing these amazing pants. They are the most perfect pants for just about anything. I now have three pair as I loved the first two and ordered one more in black. I took just four pair of pants to Namibia, two Columbia long and two Columbia short (Columbia Sportswear Women's Saturday Trail II Knee Pant) which I also loved. They dry in a snap, always look wonderful, and feel like a dream. The 6L have a 33" inseam and mine is 32 but a little long is a good thing:-) Love, love, love these pants.

Great fit, but pils easily
I love these hiking pants for the fit and price. I got them for about $36 on here and I want to buy more, but the fabric is INCREDIBLY pil-y. I also noticed that some seams come undone. Not ones that affect the structural integrity of the pants, but still annoying if you are paying more than I paid. I've had them for almost a year now, and worn them about an average of three days a week. I'm still looking for my "perfect hiking pants" but overall these are serviceable for now. For reference I am 5'6", 130lbs, with weight mainly in my hips and thighs and I am wearing a size 6. I find them a little roomy but in a very nice way that allows for eating salty snacks in excess when camping. ;) I also tend to prefer pants that hug the calves a little more than most hiking pants do, so these were a solid bootcut design that suits my needs. The pockets have a mesh lining that allows for breathability which is great in summer. The side pocket is nice, but I wish there was one on each side! The back pockets are basically useless to me because 1) Fumbling with velcro is not fun and 2) I don't really put stuff in my back pockets because I am forgetful and will probably sit on it. I would say also that the "Saturday" labeling of them is quite accurate. I would not wear these on an extended through hike due to the pilling and tendency for seams to come undone. (which would make me worry about them eventually falling apart completely while in the middle of the woods) But they are good for casual day hikes, being on a boat (quick dry, SPF in on point), car camping, etc. and are comfortable in temperatures of spring, summer and fall for my temperate climate (Northeast USA). I would not suggest using them as your winter pants unless you live in a warm climate or are very well layered and tolerant to cold. Overall: Love the fit, but wish they didn't pil! My rating is between 3 stars and 4 depending on how much you end up paying for them and while I do use them regularly, I'm still searching for something with a better quality of material. I may purchase another of these jeans in a darker color to see if they maybe use a non-piling material for that variety or if it doesn't show up as badly (I have the fossil color, which is a beige and in person it does look like the picture, but the pilling shows up TERRIBLY it looks like I'm covered in little speck of dirt and there's so much piling that it's hard to get off with traditional means).

Styled for a lean slim build and comfortable to the MAX!!
Awesome pants! I bought 2 pairs (black and grill) for a 3 week car touring trip through Ireland in May. Comfy on the plane, in the car, on the trail. They are lightweight, but a good wind pant and warm in cool damp conditions. They are not rain proof, however they dry VERY quickly. It drizzled a little every day, but they dried in the car within 20 minutes. Also dried overnight after laundering. I have also worn them for golf on windy days as they are a good wind break without being a "noisy fabric". I am lanky, 5'8", 130 lbs with long slim legs. I normally wear a size 4 or 6 in pants and require at 33" to 34" inseam. Based on other reviews I ordered an 8 LONG but the upper thigh/hip were too baggy although length was perfect. Re-ordered in a 6 LONG, and these fit absolutely perfect in all respects! The waist on these sits slightly below the natural waistline which I like as I am short-waisted. The rise is good. They do stretch out a bit the longer you wear them but thats OK for an active pant. They return to size on washing. There is one zipper pocket built into the seam on the right thigh. I can fit a small set of keys in it or folded bills and drivers license, and its also perfect for a golf ball divot repair tool. A cargo pocket would be more useful as the front pockets are not very deep ... they are sewn straight across at the base, so I would not trust placing anything valuable in them for fear of it falling out. Two back pockets have velcro closures. Overall these are the best multi-purpose pants in my closet. I bought a pair of Kuhls which I returned as these are more comfortable, no crotch bite, and offered in a LONG length. I wish more manufacturers would offer LONGs. The pickins' are slim out there!

Inconsistent sizing!
I own 3 pair of the short/capri that fit perfectly (bought last September). I love them so much that I ordered tan. The waist is the same as the older pair, but the thighs are tight because they are at least 1" more narrow than my other 3 pair. One of my older pair I have not worn yet, so still has tags. All 3 that I bought in September, worn and washed and unworn are exactly the same size. I also ordered 3 pair of the pants. All three have a waist at least 1" smaller than all of the short/capri's that I ordered in September and recently, so the fit is not as comfortable and causes camel toe...yikes! On top of that, the India Ink has narrower thighs by at least 1", just like the tan capri. All sizes are 8, both new and old and I bought the older pair on Amazon last September. Maybe if I return these and reorder I'll get some that are consistent with those that I bought in September. Also, I just returned sz 10 pants that I bought from REI because I was swimming in them, so it's not me. I used to wear sz 10, have several pair of both long and short, and they are all exactly the same size in the waist and thighs even after wearing and washing them. Clearly there is a problem with sizing consistency. I have been wearing Columbia product for many years, so I am very disappointed. What's up Columbia!??
