Why is it shown connected to a mapp gas cylinder?

Just for illustration purposes - they are the same threading as 1lb. propane cylinders. MAPP is no longer made, being replaced by MAP-Pro. Both were/are more costly than propane and burn hotter than propane.

What is the size of the male connector. I need 3/8”

The side that screws into the camping stove is 3/8" and the side that screws directly onto the disposable 1 lb. propane cylinder is a standard female 1"-20 fitting for such cylinders (not for hoses to the larger 20 lb. propane tanks).

Do I need some kind of regulator for this? I bought one and am using it but it causes the gas volume to vary wildly independent of turning the knob..
