I really like this. I'm not fully sure on how or what it does. But I got it to help control the solar panel I bought to make more stable output for my mobile phone charging and power banks.

Das Modul funktioniert. immer nur in Verbindung mit einer Solarfläche. Der Accu wird geladen. Die Ladedauer und Ladequalität hängt von der Solarfläche und den Standort des Solarpanels ab. Es ist für Bastler ideal um Projekte ohne Netzstrom zu realisieren dabei aber den Accu nicht ständig austauschen zu müssen, weil er leer ist. Man kann das Modul weiter empfehlen, sollte aber bedenken, das der Ladezustand des Accus nicht gleichbleibend gut ist.

Bought two, in the hope that at least one does the job. Whatever it is made for, for sure not for charging at an solar panel.

I've been using this for over two years now with no problems. This is about as ideal of a module as you will find for low voltage/hobbyist/IoT solar and efficient charge management, at least without spending a ton more. The main reason I'd recommend this unit over Waveshare's solar controller B C or D is that they have much higher quiescent current draws. I actually started off using the C module, but it was drawing more power than the system it was supposed to be supplying. This unit has nice low draw for a self-contained solar + battery system. As a CN3791-based controller, it isn't really "true" MPPT, it's a constant-voltage system that produces better efficiency than something like a PWM controller. If you're looking for perturb and observe global MPPT tracking, you won't find it in small modules like this. If you do, let me know where. MPPT/charge performance is good, not spectacular, but meets expectations. It provides clean, steady power out while drawing from energy input and/or battery as needed. I'm using a 30W 18V panel with a 4P lithium pack. With good sun, the batteries are always fully charged by mid-day, and on shady days I still get good contribution. Charge continues to trickle in down to about 4 volts from the panel, which is excellent! The flexibility of this board is nice. I like the dual 3.3/5.0V outputs, though I've noticed some persistent coil whine when using the 5V output. Not a big deal, and probably varies with unit. The battery pack connector is paralleled with the on-board battery, so although Waveshare recommends against it, you can absolutely have both an onboard cell and the external battery pack for combined capacity, so long as you're absolutely sure the batteries are of the same nominal voltage and chemistry (and don't hook them up backwards). The behavior of the controller is consistent and predictable, however it will go to sleep sometimes if it decides there is no load. Fortunately it's pretty sensitive to load, even running an LED at ~1mA keeps it awake. I haven't tested lower. It has no problem running a Pi Pico 24/7 without shutting off. Like I said, it may not be completely ideal, but it's hard to beat for the price, has a great feature set, and does what it claims. I will buy again, until I find a more advanced board with equally low quiescent draw and affordability!
