This extensively classroom-tested text takes an innovative approach to explaining software testing that defines it as the process of applying a few precise, general-purpose criteria to a structure or model of the software. The book incorporates cutting-edge developments, including techniques to test modern types of software such as OO, web applications, and embedded software. This revised second edition significantly expands coverage of the basics, thoroughly discussing test automaton frameworks, and it adds new, improved examples and numerous exercises. The theory of coverage criteria is carefully and cleanly explained to help students understand concepts before delving into practical applications, while extensive use of the JUnit test framework gives students practical experience in a test framework popular in the industry. Exercises, meanwhile, feature specifically tailored tools that allow students to check their own work. The book's website also offers an instructor's manual, PowerPoint slides, testing tools for students, and example software programs in Java. Paul and I were very distressed when our students told us about the numerous errors in the kindle edition. The publisher is working with the distributors to correct the problems and either provide an update, a refund, or a print edition, at the customer's discretion. Although nothing is bug-free, the authors copy-edited and proof-read the paper edition very carefully, so it does not have those problems. Perfect combination of important topics and methods to get to the fifth level!

Well written and easy to understand
Well written and easy to understand. Could potentially use more graphics to demonstrate concepts, however there are Online resources that help with this.

Bad spelling everywhere, global search and replace spoof?
I would buy the first edition. I am not sure if anyone actually proof read this book. You can see the spelling issues even on the preview. There are 3 misspelled words in 3 third paragraph or 1.1 alone. distinction was spelled distin Ction. Since was spelled sin Ce. Eliminate was spelled elimin ate. If you globally search for these words they are all over the place. Its a very distracting read. I could not return this as it was past 7 days and had to buy the first edition. Stick with the first edition as it looks like it was proof read and no obvious errors stand out.

Book has mold/mildew smell (appears fine) and triggers an allergic reaction
The book has a mildew odor. I bought it new and It came wrapped in plastic and appears to be new, but it makes it hard to use because the smell is strong for me and my fingers smell moldy after touching the pages.

Testing for Academics
You can judge a good testing textbook by how many actual real-world code snippets and test problems it has in it. This is just all academic "how many angels on the head of a pin" testing. I have 40 years of testing safety critical software - this book is terribly academic. No real help in putting together practical software test cases.
