What is the lowest temperature setting?

The dial on the side indicates 200 celcius which is 392 fahrenheit.

Can this be used for jewlery making?

Yes and no, more no. It depends on exactly what you are making. There are two issues, the first is that you probably won't get enough heat transfer because with larger parts the metal is going act like a heat sink. It's not so much that you need to heat a wider area as that the metal you are soldering will suck the heat away and by the time you get where you want to solder hot enough the whole area will be hot and that takes a lot of heat transfer. The second issue is this is only going to work for low temperature soft solder. That will work for things like brass, copper, pewter, etc. but will either be problematic or impossible for things like gold, silver, platinum. I would not necessarily go to a torch because of the learning curve and potential to destroy things during that learning curve. But a higher wattage iron will help. If you are going to do a lot with traditional jewelry metals you will probably have to get a small torch and practice because the iron is just not going to get hot enough for some of those solders.

Tsa allows tools to be up to 7 inches in carry on. how long is the iron from the end of the handle to the tip? i could remove the tip if necessary.
