It's a pretty good accessory that let's you draw and check the tool paths before running the job. I use VCARVE and when the work calls for the Tiling function it helps me confirm that the tool paths are setup correctly. I haven't used it for drawing (sketching) an image although that's probably what it's designed for.

Well made Works as intended.

Needed for several projects and the 1st one was acheiveable when the thumb screws were tightened with pliers. Couldn't get them tight enough with my fingers using the "Edge ruler" set at 2", kept slipping and would stretch to 2.25-2.5". Design is good but it also prohibits full access to the knobs being small and close together (big hands/fingers). Hated to put pliers on the knobs to get them tighter, feeling they'd fail soon but with several more uses needed i think the solution is to cut a slot in each knob to make them into a slotted screws for a screwdriver to tighten. Next trip to the hardware store i'll see if they have a micro-machine bolt to swap out the knurled knobs and could use a wrench instead.

Great idea, but I have a hard time getting it to stay still as I move it along the edge. This item has several point of articulation and I found it difficult to get everything tightened down to the point to stop the angle of the pencil or the distance of the pencil to the base from changing. As I move the tool along the edge, if I had to change hands, or if there was a "groove" in the item being scribed, then the pencil would start to ride the groove or the gap would change as I moved the tool to my other hand. If I am very gentle with it, it works great. Because it has so many points of articulation, you are able to use it in lots of places.

I had looked at buying this tool but went with the knockoff so I could have it sooner for an upcoming flooring project. The knockoff did the job but I wanted this one. It has a better design feel, and a couple different features. I used it to scribe and layout arcs and circles. It did each job well. The detachable pencil is a plus too. There are other tools that perform the functions this tool does and maybe better. But this tool performs a lot of tasks quite well.
