Set in the mythic city of Orphalese, T he Prophet by Kahlil Gibran is a poetic treatise on all facets of life, from everyday realities such as clothing and houses, to questions of love, beauty, and self-knowledge. Featuring 12 original illustrations by the author, this lyric exploration of the human condition is as relevant today as it was nearly a century ago. With archival printing, this pocket-sized edition is designed for both portability and longevity. Hardcover gift volume with dust jacket makes an ideal addition to any home or office library. Book measures 4-1/2'' wide x 7-1/2'' high. 64 pages. Born in Lebanon in 1883, Kahlil Gibran is known not only as a writer, but also as a poet, philosopher and visual artist, producing in his lifetime dozens of writings in both Arabic and English, and crafting paintings and sketches now on display in museums around the world. Influenced by writers like William Blake and Francis Marrash, his work is known and loved for its exploration of universal themes such as justice, love, and religion, and its deft rendering of symbols. Gibran spent the later years of his life in New York City, where he wrote The Prophet . Review: Beautifully written - Beautifully written book of short prose and poetry. I bought it for my niece who was going through a rough time. Each chapter is short, although they are spiritual in a meaningful way and seem to encompass the wisdom of a lifetime. My niece found the book comforting. Review: Enchanting and thoughtful ~ - I wish I had known about this book years ago! All of the questions asked by the community were answered so beautifully by the prophet. Common sense was the underlying principle of the story, I believe. Written in such a great manner, I reread each page several times.

too highbrow for me
Not my cup of tea. Flowerly writing explaining the human condition. The supposed prophet explaining his insights on love, death and relationships to the inhabitants of a fictitious land.. Those who like poetic philosophy and imagery in written form will probably love this book.

Beautiful words and excellent quality.
This is a great book with beautiful passages. I keep it on my coffee table and read it in passing often. There’s a passage for many of life’s situations and they are meaningful and eye opening. Beautifully written. The book itself is excellent too. For the price, I can’t believe the high quality.
