Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800 for Business

I must say some words about this mouse and keyboard. These two devices are really really good deal, it's only $20+. Especially the mouse, it's awesome. Let me talk about the mouse first, and how it compares with the mice I used. My hand is not so so big, not so small. About two years ago, I tried to buy a wireless mouse, I didn't think too much and I bought Logitech V220, because I trusted the brand. But the mouse is really terrible for me, it's too small, and the back of the mouse is swelling too much, which made my thumb and pinkie hard to grasp the mouse, but that's how I steer the mouse. Then, I realize I have to carefully choose the shape of a mouse instead of just looking at the brand, after all, it's for everyday use. If your hand is not that big, My advice for you is that you should avoid the keyword "mouse for notebook", 'cause usually it's very small and hard to use. Unfortunately, the designers I think they assume a wireless mouse should be for notebooks, so they design small mice. The second mouse I bought is Microsoft Comfort Mouse 4500, I was very disappointed, this mouse is not a bit comfort for me, and it's not a cheap mouse, even not wireless. The size of the mouse is no longer that small for me, but its hip is too fat too wide, and the back of the mouse is also swelling. If you look at the photos of mice produced by microsoft, you'll find that most of them shape like this one, I guess they are for big hands. Actually I like the mouse in my office very much, which is the default mouse of my HP workstation. The mouse is pretty simple, its part number is UAE96. This is really an irony, the best mouse for me is usually the cheapest one of each brand. For me, it means more regular shape, and less tricky freaky useless so-called features. Recently I put my dirty keyboard and mouse into a sink filled with water, and I couldn't make them work after such cleaning. So I have to buy a mouse again. I went to a nearby Best Buy and found there were only a small number of samples to try. After trying some samples, I found Logitech is no longer a great brand, the mice are uncomfortable for use, and expensive, but their look and feel are cheap. The relative best one for me is still the cheapest one, M310, which I heard is an updated version of M110, but for me, it's worse than the M110 I used before. The M110 looks very similar to the basic mice from HP or other computer manufacturers, I guess Logitech is the OEM of these mice. Note that M325 is just like the V220 I owned, small, and now looks cheaper. I then gave up trying to buy a mouse from Best Buy, and wanted to visit Fry's sometime later, hoping there are more samples. But Fry's is really far far away, and I haven't got a chance to visit for months, I started browsing Amazon again looking for the basic models from different brands. Then I found this one, before buying it, I went to youtube and glanced over several videos of un-boxing, then I am sure this is the shape I need. When it came to me after a week's free-saving trip, at first, I can't use it precisely, I think it's because the ratio of vertical movement to horizontal movement is different from my current mouse. And please pay attention to the distance between your mouse and the receiver. When they are not so close, the lag is noticeable. For those who felt the lag, maybe you need to plug the receiver into a front USB. For the keyboard, I like its standard layout. Although it has no caps-lock indicator, I don't think it's a big problem. The function keys F1-F12 are really too small, which distract me sometimes. Why the hell must a wireless keyboard be smaller than a wired one.

This has become my go-to wireless keyboard/mouse combo. At the typical desktop distances expected in an office environment, you can't lose - this thing is good enough that I can game with it. Setup is stupid easy: just plug in the dongle and go. No pairing - no drivers, everything is recognized by the computer as a standard keyboard & mouse, and this will even work pre-boot. Very handy during OS installations. The range is good enough that I can use this to control my pc from across the room when using it as a media center, and in fact it is good enough that I can even play mouse/keyboard RPG type games like The Witcher with very little noticeable lag or jitter from a distance of over 8 feet. It's not seemless - I think that at this distance I -would- notice problems playing FPS-type games, but for games where twitch isn't super important, or non-game applications, you're fine. Range starts to become an issue at over 10 feet but I've never really put it too the test beyond that. The battery life is excellent too. All I can say is "months", provided you remember to switch off the mouse when not in use. Speaking of the mouse, it's worth noting that the mouse makes an excellent laptop accessory, as it has a nice little divit to store the usb dongle when not in use. If there is one weird quirk I've noticed - and this is specific to one game only - on Dragon Age: Origins, the scroll wheel doesn't work right. This is extremely weird because it works normally in literally every other application I use, and I've double and triple checked my application settings for the specific game, but strangely, it appears to be the mouse. Switching to any other mouse I have and the scrolling in that game works fine. The keyboard is on par with wired keyboards in the $10-$20 range, with my only complaint being the smallish F-keys. You get used to them, but they are not optimal. If you are familiar with the standard Microsoft wired keyboard 400, you know what you are in for. One last thing worth mentioning: this combo works with Xbox 360s and PS3s as well. While I have never had need for a mouse on either console, the keyboard works just fine, and are 'plug & play', just plug the dongle into a USB port and the keyboard works. 5 stars - awesome price, awesome battery life, reliable hardware. I would deduct a half-star for the tiny F keys and the DA:O glitch, but since amazon doesn't award half-stars, I have to round up for all the other great things about this kit.

All in all this is a very nice keyboard and mouse set. Keeping in mind that you're only spending $24 on it, so it is gonna have its flaws. One thing I don't like about it is that there's caps or num lock indicator. Microsoft does offer a program that will display it right on the Screen when you push the button. They claim they don't put the indicator on there, to save battery life. But I would rather have an indicator, and maybe shorten the life of month, and not have to worry about whether caps is on or not. The actual wireless signal, seems to be pretty strong. I have no troubles whatsoever connecting to my computer. The mouse does seem to be a little on the cheap side. Again, what do you expect for $24. But it's not unbearable. The buttons just seem to have to be clicked hard to get them to activate. But I'm used to the Microsoft arc mouse. I'm using this as a spare keyboard, for when I'm doing work on other computers. So for me it's probably not going to be a everyday use keyboard. But I will use it, and I will enjoy it I think. Definitely worth the $25!

This was a fantastic buy. I love both the keyboard and mouse. Great tactile feedback with the keyboard, as well as the mouse. I'm not sure why everyone's saying their mouse wheel is completely smooth...mine clicks ever so slightly to tell me I've scrolled...it's not as noticeable as some other mice I've used, but it's there. The mouse works on almost every surface I've used it on. I use it on both my couch cushion and on my bed sheets and it has no issues with either. The first package I received had a defective mouse. Amazon quickly sent me a replacement at no cost to me, which was great. Excellent service from Amazon, and excellent product from Microsoft. On durability--I've dropped the mouse a few times and it's still operating correctly. Had no issues with range, but my room isn't really that big. A note on battery life...I'm not sure how long it lasts, but I still have not had to replace the batteries in either the mouse or the keyboard after heavy daily use...In fact, I don't even bother turning off the mouse, so it's been on perpetually since I purchased it, and the battery is still working. I'm impressed.

I have a little translator business so I type a lot. I bought this keyboard/ mouse combination mainly because it came with a mini receiver rather than a big old USB stick, and of course because it really had a great price. Technically all the devices work perfectly fine. However, I found out quickly that there is some truth to "you get what you payed for" pretty quick. For some reason I can only see on my computer's login screen whether caps lock is on. For every other screen I have to find out the "hard way" by getting an error message from the application I happen to work with. Additionally, several letter keys on the keyboard are already blank, and several more start to fade out. I have no issues whatsoever with the mouse, but would never buy this keyboard again. Not only does it look cheap, it obviously is cheap and not made for extended typing.

My father recently upgraded his old XP machine with a much faster laptop. However, he doesn't really like the keyboard on the laptop or the lousy track pad that came with it. Being a senior citizen he really wasn't adapting well to it and it was really mitigating his experience with the better machine. We were going to get him a docking station so he could use his desktop peripherals with his laptop. However, after realizing that everything today is wireless we decided to get this combo instead. We hooked his desktop monitor to the laptop plugged in the bluetooth receiver and boom he was in business. There was ZERO setup with this combo it was great. Keyboard and mouse work great. Both units are lightweight. The don't have that 'quality' feel to them but they work well and feel good to the hand. They keyboard has some nice function buttons on it. You can invoke the calculator with a button and control a music player via the play and volume buttons. For the price you can't beat it.

I ordered this keyboard because I do a lot of typing and I thought this keyboard would suit the bill. I had a Microsoft keyboard in the PS2 connection days and absolutely loved the key feel. I liked this one, because It is small, compact and doesn't have all the bells and whistles that never get used. First, as far as the design of the keyboard goes, I like that the seldom-used buttons are recessed, and the frequently used buttons are easy to access. Build is also quite good as the keyboard feels pretty solid and the keys are not wobbly. Useability is, however, horrible. The keys are too stiff (I suppose this is personal preference), but after about an hour of typing, my fingers would be sore. More importantly, there are several keys that don't register unless pressed twice. The most important being the shift key. There is no way I can continue using this keyboard, and after a month of using it, I have had to throw it out. I will have to now find another keyboard. Although design and build are good, the useability renders the keyboard completely useless. I can't comment on the mouse as I never did use it, but I am quite sure that it would be okay.

Arrived a day ahead of promised delivery date (ie. next day even though prime promises 2 day shipping) The keyboard has a good finish and feel. The mouse is/feels more basic but serves my purpose of basic PC operation (no advanced scrolling, use with games etc. needed). The plug-n-play hookup to my Windows7 system worked without problem. I am happy to have the wireless mouse included at the $25 price. I guess a positive is that you do not need two separate USB receivers for the keyboard and the mouse (which would have been the case if you had bought a wireless keyboard and mouse separately?) - the included nano receiver works for both the keyboard and the mouse. The nano receiver is slightly larger than others from Logitech that I have. In any case, I think it can be left on the PC without being any real hindrance and does have a slot at the bottom of the mouse to store away when not needed. Overall, great product at this price!
