My review is limited to a comparison between the Perwin multitool and the Leatherman Rebar, which seems the appropriate Leatherman counterpart to the Perwin, having 17 tools of the same general nature. It seems the Chinese have inspected a number of Leatherman multitools, adopted the functions they like, and they have improved others. In certain respects the Perwin is much better than a Rebar. For example, the Perwin has spring loaded pliers. It also has a file which the Rebar lacks. IMHO the Perwin also has a better knife blade. The rebar has no tools accessible from the outside, whereas the Perwin has four: file/ruler, knife blade, saw, and scissors. The Perwin's plier handles are comfortable to grasp; the Rebar's plier handles have sharp spots and are uncomfortable to use, like many Leathermans. Both multitools have the standard accouterments including an awl, cap lifter, can opener, Phillips screwdriver, and large and small standard screwdrivers. The Rebar's Phillips screwdriver is more robust than the Perwin's, and it has a serrated blade the Perwin lacks. ( I've never found that particular blade very useful because I don't cut much heavy cordage). However, the Perwin has a useful package opener the Rebar lacks. All the tools on both units lock open, except for the pliers. It appears the steel of the Perwin is 440A and the Rebar is 420HC. Both are fine for a multitool as far as I'm concerned. Both units appear to be well made and robust. I haven't used the Perwin extensively yet, so I can't speak to the quality of its metalurgy. The Perwin also has one item I like much better than the Rebar--and other Leathermans including the Bond and Super Tool 300. The fasteners used to hold together these Leathermans themselves require a specialized tool to adjust tension. It has to be special ordered on the internet. That's a nuisance. The Perwin uses fasteners adjustable with a commonly available hex key, as are some Leatherman multitools. I guess the big questions comes down to this: all things being roughly equal, is buying American (Leathermans are made in Oregon) and the Leatherman name worth $60.00 more? I recently bought the Perwin for $20.00 and the Rebar currently sells for about $80.00 on Amazon.com. (Who knows what the Perwin will cost after the application of the Trump tariffs on Chinese goods.) Unfortunately, many Americans don't have the income or the inclination to take such issues seriously. The Perwin does seem to be a better value than the Rebar.

Heavy duty construction, and works well. Worth every penny plus some.

Pros: Nice tool, nice price ($29 when I bought) nice finish, smart design, right selection of tools for my general household/yard needs, good locking mechanisms, relatively lightweight and compact, nice carry case. Main blade, saw, file and scissors are all accessible without opening the pliers and one handed opening and secure locking works well, except with scissors. Scissors are good size and quite precise with good spring action (see CONS for the scissors below). The seatbelt cutter style hook blade is small but useful for common cutting needs, especially in my case cutting zip ties, which the wire cutters are also good for. The pliers are good size, fairly well machined and have a quality spring action. The lighter weight compared to many others in the category makes it a lot more comfortable to have hanging on your belt all day, a major plus. Cons: Scissors are difficult to deploy and take a few extra seconds to set the spring and engage the blade lock. Good size and quite precise once correctly set. I had this same issue with another version of this tool (different branding but I’m pretty sure same manufacturer) and I sent that one back because it had other issues too. Overall, tool feels a little flimsy and when folded for storage, mine does not close evenly, but has some play in it. The main blade did not come especially sharp and the saw blade doesn’t seem sharp either. The file is also inferior to many I’ve had. The usual set of tools, can opener, screwdrivers etc are OK ish, but all are almost miniature size and you have to open the pliers for access. I’ll be keeping this one

I've had it a few months now and I really like it. It seems to have all the tools I need and the blade and tool locks work well.

Really love this tool. I’ve only had Lestherman in the past and they have served me well, along with stellar customer service. However, the price disparity is hard to ignore and the Perwin is excellent construction and well engineered. The shining star is the scissors and its stout stainless spring bars. Well done!

I'm super impressed!!!! This tool is a beast. Leatherman can kiss my @SS. Seriously. I actually bought a Leatherman Wave+ recently, returned it the veryyyy next day. You know why?? Something simple... But it irritated me, quality control. When the Leatherman closed, the 2 handles were wiggly, they had "play", they didn't stay nice and snug together. But GERBER, BIBURY, AND NOW PERWIN can get it right?? ALL perfectly secure, SOLID. But this Perwin,, At this price,, I should of bought 20!!!! Very happy with purchase.

I love it very strong need in my hand everything is sharp.
