Murder, She Wrote: The Complete Series [DVD]

I grew up on "Murder, She Wrote." It was the thing to watch on a Sunday night, signaling the end of the week (technically, the beginning, I know, but it always felt as if the week was ending because school was the next day, the start of the week for me). Those were happy times for me, gathering around the television with my family to watch Jessica Fletcher solve yet another baffling mystery. This was simple entertainment--good stories, interesting plots, loveable recurring characters, "exotic" locales, and even (sometimes) nice clothes (as I'm into fashion, the wardrobe always resonated with me--as the series progressed and Angela's character gained more fame, Jessica became worldlier and her taste in clothes became chicer (is that a word?), and she sometimes wore some nice suits), especially in the fashion-industry settings. So, when I saw that I could get the entire series (all 12 seasons) at once for less than $90, I jumped on it. This is, for all intents and purposes, my childhood. And, when I received the package, I set to viewing right away. Swoosh! I was back in time. Right now, my mother's at a nursing facility (thanks to a stroke) and my grandmother's rehabbing at the same facility for a medical issue--but, with Jessica Fletcher on the screen, I was that little girl again with my family watching this amateur sleuthess (that would be my version of the feminine form of "sleuth") solve another crime. However, there was one slight problem. The boxes for seasons 2, 3, and 11 were broken. Inside the box, the DVDs are held together by a plastic divider. For these three boxes, the holder's rod or bracket was broken, leaving the DVD holder free to hang inside, loose and askew. There didn't appear to be any damage to the DVDs themselves, but, when you spend $90 on something, you don't want anything damaged. So, I shipped the entire set back. I'm waiting on a replacement. No big deal, really. Just thought I ought sound the "alarm" to check the interior holders--just in case. As to packaging, what you get is a sturdy box with an open front. The back of the box, if I remember correctly, is the picture shown: of Angela Lansbury in a maroon sweater, smiling, hand to cheek, with the title of the show written above. The front of the box, of course, is where the DVD jackets are housed, seasons one through twelve. One note: This set does NOT include the four made-for-TV movies Angela Lansbury made after the series was (stupidly) cancelled. You only get seasons one through twelve. The TV movies are a separate purchase and also sold via Amazon. But, as said, if you grew up on this series, this is a must-have purchase. You won't be disappointed.

This series is a gem. It's in the world of crime shows at a time that they didn't have gore or really bad language. It's really enjoyable to watch. I would call it classic tv at it's finest. Every episode is a fun watch.

My favorite thing I’ve bought all year. I love being able to own Murder, She Wrote on DVD and watch it every night before bed. Hands down one of the best shows ever made, and I’m so glad to have the complete series on DVD.

So delighted to have this! Amgela was perfect for the part, as was Bill Windom and everyone else in the casts for all the episodes. It is also fun to see many of my favorite actors and actresses in guest roles.

Received my "Murder, She Wrote: The Complete Series" yesterday. I love this set! I was one of those people who purchased all of the individual sets as they came out but I knew if there was ever a day where a complete set came out I'd get it. The series itself is timeless. I used to watch this series with my Grandmother back when it originally aired on CBS. I loved it then and I love it now! As for the Complete set itself. It's beautifully put together. All 12 seasons are up together in a box that is just the right size for my book shelves. The box set has the slimmer DVD packages rather than the bulky sets when the series was originally put out on DVD. One thing I really like is that there are no double sided DVD's in this set! This is a major improvement from the first 3 seasons put out years ago where they were double sided and I would have some digital issues from time to time with those sets. So again...I love this set!!! Some have complained about the movies not being included in the set. I'm personally OK with this. The movies had a different feel from the series and it really doesn't bother me to have the movies in a separate case. So...should you get this set? I say if you are a MSW fan...then yes. It's smaller and it's a quality set! And the price isn't extremely bad either compared to other complete series.

Perfect condition, good quality dvds

This is one of the best light mystery shows ever made. The title character Jessica Fletcher is played by the marvelous Angela Lansbury. The regulars are Tom Bosley and others, who, along with various Cabot Cove townspeople, complete the picture of a delightful small Maine town. Mrs. Fletcher, once a school teacher, turned to writing mysteries after her husband died, and became a best selling author. This gives Mrs. Fletcher a reason to travel the globe for various reasons, encountering dead bodies wherever she goes. Because she writes murder mysteries, Mrs. Fletcher has discovered that she has a knack at solving real ones. Parading through the years the show was on the air is a bevy of once-famous actors and actresses, who play delightful, or sinister, characters. It's rare to see a mature woman portrayed as a love interest on screen, so it's nice that many of the guest actors serve as love interests for Mrs. Fletcher. Top it all off with one of the best theme music of a series, and you've got a hit on your hands. Which they did. As for the DVD set, I bought a new set. Because there are so many episodes, I just spot checked many of the discs. They played perfectly and seemed to be new, with no smudges or scratches. The DVD case for each season looks new. My comments about things that are a little off: You know how the show used to have a short introductory "Tonight, on Murder She Wrote," which would show a few scenes from the show about to start? These are included with the episodes, but I ran across a couple in my spot checking where that intro was missing. Maybe some of the shows didn't have the intro, or maybe the disc set manufacturer didn't include some to save space. No big deal. Second, the box that houses the dvd cases was smushed a BIT on one corner. The smushed corner of the box looks similar to one shown in another reviewer's pic. I don't like having a new series box set cover damaged in any way, but It's not very noticeable, and the discs themselves are fine. Third, the set was loosely wrapped in stiff crinkly type of clear cellophane that practically fell off by itself, instead of being properly shrink wrapped with cling wrap. I've bought several other series sets; none of those had this kind of wrapping. Not a big deal, either. I just made sure to check the disks and their cases carefully. This is a long series with a lot of episodes, so you get a lot of programs for the money. I love everything about this series. Just hearing the theme song come on puts me in a good mood. I'm glad I finally splurged and got it.

まずディスク枚数が「１」とあるのはなんなんだろうか。いくらなんでも１枚のはずがない。それはともかく、こちらは字幕つきの全集なので安心して最後まで楽しめる。テレビの特番は収録されていないが、それは別に発売されているようだ。画質はよろしくない。ただ面白さは折り紙つきなので、そのうちに気にならなくなる。私は１万円という破格の安さで購入したのだが、今みると値段が結構上がっている。それでも他サイトより半分近く安いので、ファンなら早めに購入した方がよいと思われる。最近は有料放送でいろいろなドラマがみられるようになったので、英語字幕が出るものならDVDを買わずとも有料放送で流されているものを録画する方が安く上がるが「ジェシカおばさん」の場合恐らく放送されるとしても最初の数年ほどだけなので（その後の作品には日本語字幕がつけられていないと思う）見たかったらこういうものを購入するしかない。大変よい買い物をしたと思っている。英語の勉強にもなるし、話がとても面白い。十分楽しめそうだ。

El Paquete llegó a tiempo y en excelentes condiciones. Es una de las series favoritas de mi infancia. Vale la pena para los seguidores nostalgicos y coleccionistas.

Some people read books, some watch TV, some enjoy life thru the work of others. Angela Lansbury, thru the work she lived for, her sheer enjoyment of every day that she was sharing her talents with us, her loyal fans. On stage, screen & every medium known to her and us, she is the very best. Living forever, thank you Angela.

I loved this series and am super happy I found a complete DVD box set of all 12 seasons. Great for winter binge-watching (in northern ontario). I'm into season 2 now. No issues with any of the discs. It's old technology for today's standard, but no service is streaming this series, so this was my only way to get it. Super happy I bought it. No regrets.
